The Indian Premier League's top two teams last year have dabbled in downsizing for Season 2. Days after champions Rajasthan Royals sent seven players home, including Mohammad Kaif, runners-up Chennai Super Kings have also packed off five cricketers.
Unlike the Royals though, the Super Kings haven't dropped any of their stars. Taking the flight back home are
S Vidyut, Anirudha Srikkanth, Suresh Kumar, Abhinav Mukund and Napoleon Einstein. Though, Sivaramakrishnan played nine games last year, the rest were mostly confined to the bench.
Interestingly, Anirudha happens to be the son of Kris Srikkanth, chairman of the national selection committee and brand ambassador of the Super Kings.
Meanwhile, Mukund and Einstein were part of India's under-19 squad that won the junior World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. With the Chennai team signing Andrew Flintoff, George Bailey and star Murali Vijay this season, the axe has fallen on the fringe batsmen in the squad. "I did feel sorry for the five boys we sent back, but it could not be helped and was a tough decision to take," Super Kings' director of cricket operations VB Chandrasekhar wrote in a blog published on the team's official website.
