Samsung has announced a new SSD that uses a new type of NAND called toggle-mode NAND. The new SSD has 512GB of storage capacity and is aimed at the premium notebook category.
The SSD is built on a 30nm class 32Gb chip that went into production last November. The toggle-mode structure of the NAND in the SSD and the SATA 3 Gbps interface work together to give the SSD 250MB/s sequential read performance and 220MB/s sequential write performance.
Samsung also uses a new controller design that was made specifically for toggle-mode NAND. Using the tech Samsung claims that it can extend the life of a notebook using the new SSD by an hour or more. The SSD also features 256-bit AES encryption to protect data and supports Windows 7 TRIM. Volume production of the 512GB SSD will start next month.
