India remembers
soldiers who were killed in 1999 while fighting against Pakistani invaders and camouflaged regular troops at Kargil heights in Jammu and Kashmir. It was an impudent attack attempt, but our soldiers met with laudable actions and a crucial military victory. We lost 500 Indian soldiers in this war which lasted two months. From last 11 years, this day has been marked as Kargil Victory Day . Families of soldiers come together at different places to pay homage to their loved ones who dedicated their life in the high altitude and hostile combat zone of Kargil. Today Defence Minister A.K. Antony , the three service chiefs – Admiral Nirmal Verma
of the navy, Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik of the air force and Gen V.K. Singh of the army – will pay homage to the ‘Kargil martyrs’ at the Amar Jawan Jyoti . This day is also remembered as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
