Saying that Facebook has become an important platform for social networking would be a big understatement. With the number of users that join the social networking website every day, it was no surprise that most companies and brands have a fan page on Facebook. Having a fan page meant marketing new products through the social networking giant without having to make too much of an investment in marketing, while at the same time ensuring massive penetration through the fans of the page, as well as their friends. So what would be the next logical step for any brand or company? Shopping through Facebook of course! Facebook is now a major platform for “Social” Shopping.
Considering the reach that brands can achieve through Facebook, the website seems like the best option for brands and consumers alike. Ladt year, PVR Cinemas had launched a Facebook app which allowed users to book tickets at PVR Cinemas through Facebook. Recently, BookMyShow launched a Facebook application called Ticket Buddy, which not only lets users prebook tickets, but also let the user invite 9 friends for the show.
Booking cinema tickets are not the only thing that you will be able to do in the near future. Imagine a world where you can call for food, shop for petty much everything, and network with friends. If only we could all work through Facebook too, we would be one obese world.
Security issues?
Facebook has had its issues with security in the past. With users’ accounts being hacked and identities being stolen, apart from the various other security issues, the consumer satisfaction of Facebook users has been low. With such problems already existing, why would users want to put their credit/debit card information on the website? How does Facebook assure safety against theft of such details? Hopefully, Mark Zuckerberg will come up with a foolproof plan, apart from a good speech ensuring secure services, to convince social shoppers.
If safety can be established, social shopping will grow leaps and bounds. Would you shop socially?
