Dish TV partners STMicroelectronics for HD set top box

DTH major, Dish TV, on Monday entered into a partnership with Swiss firm STMicroelectronics (STM) for integrating the latter’s chips in its high definition (HD) set top boxes.
These new chips, which consume lower power, will help Dish TV introduce more features at the same price as existing chipsets.
“These new chipsets, integrated in the new HD STBs, will give us an ideal platform to deliver newer value added services,” Dish TV Managing Director, Mr Jawahar Goel, told reporters here.
He, however, declined to comment on the financial details and the value added services the company plans to launch.
Dish TV has four vendors, who will integrate STM chips in the HD STBs. Dish TV expects to sell 2.5 lakh HD STBs this fiscal.
“This represents an important design win, demonstrating our ability to deliver customised solutions and emphasising our commitment to support strategic and fast—growing markets such as India,” STM’s Executive Vice President and President for Greater Chin a and South Asia, Mr Francois Guibert, said. – PTI
