Hot on the heels of Logitech’s Alert CCTV system yesterday comes news of a rival platform by lesser-known camera company Y-Cam. The Y-Cam Bullet is a weatherproof, network-connected camera that works over either WiFi b/g or wired ethernet; it streams 640 x 480 30fps video with sound, as well as recording it to a local microSD card, and like Logitech the company offers iPhone and Android remote monitoring apps.
Meanwhile the software bundled with the Y-Cam does a few things that Logitech demand you pay for; as well as setting up motion detection, email alerts and more, you can view live video or access saved content without paying an extra fee. If you haven’t got an iPhone or Android device, the Y-Cam can output either an MPEG4 or MJPEG feed, which should be more flexible.
Twelve IR LEDs allow for low-light and nighttime viewing, and power-over-ethernet (PoE) cuts down on the cables. The Y-Cam Bullet is available now, priced at £295 ($470).
