Vera Zvonareva made short work of Sara Errani beating her 6-3 6-3 to enter the third round of the Pan Pacific Open.
Second seed Zvonareva, in her first match since her run to the title match at Flushing Meadows, was rarely threatened as she secured her first win in three visits to the event.
Top seed and world number two Caroline Wozniacki is through after easing past Hungarian qualifier Greta Arn for the loss of four games.
Eighth seed Victoria Azarenka and seventh seed Elena Dementieva also advanced.
Azarenka thrashed Lucie Safarova 6-1 6-3 while Dementieva needed just 51 minutes to roll over Yaroslava Shvedova 6-0 6-1.
"It was a nice and quick match," Dementieva said.
"I played very aggressively and consistently the whole match. It's always good to get into a rhythm.
"There are a few big tournaments left so I want to play my best - no matter how well you do in the beginning of the year, it's always good to have a strong finish."
Julia Goerges continued her impressive run by seeing off fourth seed Sam Stosur.
German Goerges, who beat former world number one Dinara Safina yesterday, overcame the French Open finalist 7-5 6-3.
Another former world number one, Serbia's Ana Ivanovic, is also out after losing 6-2 6-1 to Marion Bartoli while 10th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova was ousted by Andrea Petkovic 6-3 7-5.
There were also defeats for 13th seed Shahar Peer - to Kaia Kanepi - and 14th seed Aravane Rezai, who lost to American qualifier Coco Vandeweghe.
Fifth seed Francesca Schiavone avoided an upset with a straight-sets defeat of Alexandra Dulgheru and Japan's Kimiko Date Krumm celebrated her 40th birthday by advancing past Daniela Hantuchova, the Slovakian retiring with a shoulder injury when 4-0 down in the deciding set.
