In view of the stepped up security arrangements ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Jammu and Kashmir government has asked security forces to work together with the tourism department to avoid inconvenience to tourists at the airport here.
"There is a need for maintaining coordination between police, CRPF and tourism department to avoid any inconvenience to the outgoing and incoming tourists, both domestic and international, on the Srinagar Airport," Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir), Asgar Samoon said.
Samoon, who chaired a meeting to discuss various issues regarding promotion of tourism, asked the tour and travel operators to extend their cooperation to the Airport Authority in this regard.
Samoon instructed the SP Airport and Director Tourism to initiate strict action against the tourist touts at the airport as it harmful to the tourism industry.
He said the development of a tourist village near the airport is in the pipeline for which state land would be provided to the Department of Tourism so that incoming and outgoing tourists could have a rest there.
The government plans to develop Naagar Nagar in the old city at an amount of Rs 49 crore.
The project envisages renovation and development of age-old heritage of Kashmir in the area, Samoon said.
