T-Mobile Sidekick 4G Announced – Back to Life with Android! [Samsung at Helm]

Oh you crafty bunch of re-animators you, Samsung, T-Mobile, and Google with your Android 2.2 Froyo, you’ve done it! You’ve given new life to the classic Sidekick and you’ve made it look… well… the same… but somehow fresh! And now it’s got Android on it instead of its own very limited OS. Let’s do it! This is the 4G way, with a design rolling around with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a “pop-tilt” hinge, a five-row QWERTY keyboard in the classic Sidekick nature, and an overall messager-aimed telephone feel. Will it be the new king of mid-range? Perhaps!

Inside you’ll find Android 2.2 Froyo, a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, and a single front-facing VGA webcam with a yet-untold quality to it. Inside on the apps side, you’ll find a Sidekick Media Room that’ll play all the movies and music you want, the Samsung Media Hub for everything you could ever want to download, and a fabulous sounding app called DriveSmart. With the premium version of DriveSmart, you’ll get an automatic (non-premium manually activated) system that, when in your car, sends instant replies to people trying to contact you that say you’re in the car and that you’ll contact them when you’re back out again.

Then there’s a single physical key which you can apply whichever action you like to, this key being called a “jump key,” toting the ability to jump between apps at will, “even during a phone call.” This phone will come in either the color you see above, that being matte black, or a strangely enticing pearl magenta. Will this be the world’s new entry ticket into the world of Android? Sure, why not?
