Christina Hendricks Talks Season 5 of Mad Men

Last week Mad Men star Jon Hamm talked about the future of the show and about the issues that have delayed the production of season 5. We now have Christina Hendricks talking to Parade about this extended hiatus, what she knows about the coming season and what projects she has been involved in during the break.

In regards to the contract negotiations that has led to Mad Men not due to hit our screens till 2012, Hendricks was certain that during this turbulent time that everything would work out for the best and that the show would return. Whilst she didn't get in to specifics, Hendricks certainly seems supportive of her boss and creator of Mad Men, Matthew Weiner saying of him and the situation that:

"He's very passionate about it and really held firm to what he wanted and what was best for the show. There wouldn't be a show without him, so I knew it was going to work out. It just took a little while."

Hendricks also spoke about this when she participated in The Hollywood Reporter's Emmy drama actresses roundtable and on this occasion she discussed the creative and business conflict that occurred during these negotiations. The Mad Men cast have been very respectful when talking about this situation, showing that they are behind Matthew Weiner but also acknowledging the commerce side of the industry. What is clear from the way they are talking about the show is that they are clamouring to get back to the set and start filming season 5.

As with Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks has yet to see a script and so is in a similar position regarding speculation as us, the audience. When asked about what would be happening about her character's pregnancy and January Jone's real life one, she claimed to be as in the dark as the rest of us. The actors it seems aren't privy to this information till the scripts are given out, though she did say that she was going to try and get some hints from the writers. Christina Hendricks is eager to start shooting season 5, wanting "to get the show back on the air because I know lots of people are waiting!"

In the meantime though during this extended hiatus Hendricks has been busy; she has roles in the forthcoming films Drive and I Don't Know How She Does It which both happen to share the release date of September 16, 2011. If you fancy a double bill of Hendricks during this hiatus then it is there for the taking. The two films are very different of course, Drive is an action drama about a stunt driver who also happens to partake in some criminal work as a wheelman. Starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan and Bryan Cranston this film attracted buzz at the recent Cannes Film Festival, not only scoring great reviews but director Nicolas Winding Refn also collected the Best Director award for the film. I Don't Know How She Does It is some lighter fare and is a romantic comedy starring Sarah Jessica Parker as a high flying executive who is trying to balance family and work. Hendricks plays Parker's best friend in this New York comedy, that also stars Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Seth Meyers, Kelsey Grammar, Busy Phillips, Olivia Munn and Jessica Szohr.

Christina Hendricks has also been using this extra time to help with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and LATISSE to try and raise $500,000 so every Make-A-Wish chapter in the US can have a wish granted. Hendricks explained that she was influenced in working towards this goal because she experienced the joy that this foundation can bring when she was in first grade, as a girl in her class had her wish fulfilled to meet Erik Estrada when he was in CHiPS.

Are you like Christina Hendricks and wanting to get Mad Men on our screens as quick as possible?
