Mad Men is showing no signs of quitting just yet. The flagship AMC drama, which follows ad man Don Draper through the 1960s, has signed on lead actor Jon Hamm for a three year deal,Deadline is reporting. Hamm, who has recently appeared in films such as The Town and Sucker Punch, first came to prominence through Mad Men. Now, it seems, he'll be one of the highest actors on cable with an eight-figure deal (the specific number is not being reported).
Hamm's contract with AMC parallels Mad Menshowrunner Matthew Weiner's contract, which is also for three years, making it likely that the series will have a full run of seven seasons. Hamm was reportedly Lionsgate and AMC's first priority after signing Weiner, and contracts will likely be pursued with other major players in the cast, with bumps in pay similar to Hamm's in exchange for the longer tenure of the contract.
Mad Men is slated to return in 2012 for its fifth season after a much delayed battle between Weiner and execs from both Lionsgate and AMC over the show's renewal. Mad Men itself has been renewed through a sixth season.
Both Hamm and Mad Men are considered front runners in the 2011 Emmy race for Best Actor and Best Drama, respectively.
