VH1 Picks Up Basketball Wives Spin-off, Matchmaking Series

You knew it was only a matter of time, right?

After two successful seasons of Basketball Wives and a third that has been doing quite well, VH1 has picked up the first spin-off of the Shaunie O'Neal produced reality series. This time, cameras will be heading to Los Angeles to follow a new group of wives, ex-wives, and fiancees to see what happens when people stop being polite and start throwing drinks in your face.

The line-up includes Ron Artest's wife Kimsha, Stephen Jackson's ex-fiancee Imani, Doug Christie's wife Jackie, ex-Basketball Wife Gloria Govan (Matt Barnes's fiancee), and Gloria's sister Laura. The new series is slated to take over the Monday 8:00 timeslot currently occupied by its mothership on August 29th, so you have a couple of months to prepare yourself for a new brand of foolishness.

I'm interested to see how Gloria integrates herself into a new wife "scene", as her fiancee was traded from Orlando to the Lakers during the offseason last year, as well as watch Jackie Christie in action. Before Basketball Wives premiered, she was one of the only wives I could have named off the top of my head, for her presence at Kings games as well as her husband's constant motions to her while on court and their wedding-a-year tradition to thwart infidelity. Plus there have been stories circulating online about just how out there she is, so I'm very intrigued to find out just how much of that was based in reality.

In short, the L.A. edition of Basketball Wives promises the same levels of cattiness, over-the-top antics, and faint whiff of delusion that have made the original such good TV.

VH1 has also picked up a show called Siggy Flicker, which is about a matchmaker taking two clients and teaching them everything they need to know before releasing them back into the dating wild. It's set to premiere this fall.

What do you think about Basketball Wives getting a spin-off? What city do you think they should go to next? (My pick: New York.) Do you think you'd watch Siggy Flicker?
