Well, it looks like Victoria Gates means business when she takes over as the new Captain of the 12th Precinct. As you can see from the brand new picture on the right, the lady is sharp and Detective Beckett is very much alive (did anyone really think she wasn't going to make it? Really?).
TV Guide has recently sat down to chat with Penny Johnson Jerald, who has joined the cast of ABC's Castle as Captain Victoria "Iron" Gates.
Just by the nickname, you can tell the woman is fierce and won't take anyone's crap, especially Castle's. The first thing she questions when she starts her new job is just what exactly is Richard Castle, a civilian, doing in her Precinct. Needless to say that Castle will have his work cut out for him to convince Gates to let him stay and still ride along with Beckett and the boys.
"She's trying to figure out why he's here. He's like a fly you can't get rid of. But Nathan [Fillion], I must tell you, in real life, is a charmer. When I look at him I crack up. And I was having a bit of a problem learning the beat of the show — speaking so fast — and Stana [Katic] said, 'We can just walk slower and talk faster.' I knew I liked that girl."
Jerald also reveals that despite being a strict boss at work, Gates has a nice little family with her husband and two children. When asked about the scenes she has shot so far, she comments that her favorite was probably the very first words you hear come out of her character's mouth in the first episode. It's with Beckett and she says, "If my mother came by, you can call her 'Ma'am,' but you will call me 'Sir' or 'Captain.'"
That one is going to be a tough cookie to break, huh?
