TNT has officially given Rizzoli & Isles a third season renewal of 15 episodes, scheduled to premiere next summer. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion, as the show had been extremely successful on Monday nights with The Closer for a second consecutive season, and the show received yet another bump in the number of episodes ordered as reward. Only four episodes into its second season, Rizzoli & Isles will be airing regularly through mid-September, its 10th episode of the season, with three additional episodes set to premiere this winter.There's no word on how the episodes will be divided up during season 3, however.
Based on the best-selling series of novels from Tess Gerritsen, Rizzoli & Isles tells the story of Jane Rizzoli, a gruff blue collar police detective, and Maura Isles, a privileged medical examiner, solving crimes in Boston, despite what you would think would be a tense working relationship. It's quite the opposite, as the women share a strong rapport and complement each other professionally. The series also stars Lee Thompson Young, Bruce McGill, Jordan Bridges, and Lorraine Bracco.
