State may step in Thilakan-AMMA row

In the backdrop of the tiff between veteran actor Thilakan and Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), Education and Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby said in Kochi on Sunday that the State government would intervene to solve the differences between Thilakan and AMMA if the film industry failed to sort them out. The association recently served a show cause notice on Thilakan, seeking an unconditional apology from him for his allegations against some actors. People in the film sector will themselves solve the problem. They have the efficiency and patience," Baby told presspersons on the sidelines of a function to give away the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi awards. On Thilakan's complaint that he had received a threatening call after the controversy broke out, Baby said the Home Department would take action. Thilakan lodged a complaint with the police on Friday that he had received a call from the Gulf saying that a gang had been engaged to kill him within a week if he did not stop criticising superstars. "The government has the responsibility to protect the life and property of every citizen. The Home Department will enquire into the complaint and take steps to protect the actor. It will also verify whether the threat was a hoax or not," Baby added.
