Dus Tola Manoj Bajpayee: Shankar Sunar
A goldsmith who is in love with a rich astrologer's daughter Suvarnalata. Shankar is simple, friendly and caring. Sunar family - Shankar's father - Bhaskar, an old man - who is seen and heard coughing - is so unwell that when he stops coughing for a bit the village panics and gathers around him assuming him to be dead. Most of the scenes which open on him have him staring blankly into the screen and we are made to assume that THIS time he has died - only to blink a few seconds later. So much so that the family too is exasperated and embarrassed!

Dilip Prabhawalkar: Pandit Daya Shastri
Suvarnalata's father - he doesn't support this budding relationship. He is supposedly an expert in astrology. He is a stern stubborn man who loves his power and wealth. Shastri family - Pandit and his wife Lakshmi. Both materialistic and cunning. Suvarnalata, their daughter's equally smart and well versed in the art of seduction under the guise of a small town girl's innocence and simplicity. Her beauty makes it that much more easily to be convincing.

Ninad Kamat: Bholenath
The village Oracle of sorts - even though he doesn't have a single trust worthy bone in his body he is harmless, he always breaks into a frenzied dance proclaiming to be possessed by the gods. No one takes him seriously and yet they all tolerate and humor him. He insists that his dancing cures all evil and makes wishes come true. Of course his dancing and the payment made to him.

Brijendra Kala: Abdul
The chai wallah. His chai stall is in a small two storyed old dilapidated building - the most popular watering hole of the town. His only problem in life is the dancing class on the first floor. Many young girls come there to learn dance from their gorgeous teacher Geeta, as soon as the classes start - the shop starts to rock. It's like a moving bus. Customers hold on to pillars and Abdul keeps diving to catch things that sometimes fall off from shelves

Dus Tola Govind Namdeo: Qazi
The richest and the most respected man in the village. Married twice earlier but has been very unlucky. His first two wives ran away with guys from the village. He has married a third time now - but his wife Mumtaz Begum is forbidden to come out of the house leave alone step out in Purdah. It is a common practice to tease the Qazi that people have seen his wife or for the town boys to head to the Qazi's house to try and spot his wife - making the Qazi absolutely hysterical and paranoid. This plays out humorously in the climax.

Asif Basra: Atmaram
The cow broker so to speak. He buys cows cheap and marks them up and sells them further. He has lost many animals in his panic to get to Sonar's house whenever he hears of the old mans death. Many a times he has had to leave his cows that he his taking to the markets unattended, just so he could get to the old Sonar's house. They have all wandered off or have been stolen. Now it has reached a stage that he runs in the opposite direction, firmly holding on to his animals whenever there is an alarm that the old Sonar has died. He can't afford to lose animals for someone who keeps coming alive.

Pallavi Sharda: Geeta
The dancing teacher who secretly desires Shankar. She is pretty and lives alone in the village. She and Shankar do finally get together.

Siddharth Makkar: Ravi
Suvarnalata's husband - he worked in Dubai but after marriage his luck ran out and he heads back to Suvarnalata's village to re start his life there.

Synopsis

Dus Tola Meet Shankar Sonar (Manoj Bajpayee), the much loved goldsmith of a quaint coastal town - Sonapur. Shankar is a loving son, a doting brother, a skilled artisan and is head over heels in love with the town beauty, his cunning astrologer neighbor's daughter Suvarnalata (Aarti Chhabria). A fiery, young thing with the face of an angel. Needless to say, Shastri (Dilip Prabahvalkar) Suvarna's father is opposed to the budding romance. Suvarna cooks up a fool- proof plan to manipulate her father into accepting the alliance. She convinces a smitten Shankar to make a necklace/ Mangalsutra of not one tola, not two tolas but ten tolas of gold so he can show Shastri that he can take care of his daughter and he is a suitable husband for her. Shankar is not financially well off. His ailing father and unwed sister add to his responsibilities. He puts everything he has at stake and slogs day and night to make a necklace for his beloved.

This necklace will either break or make Shankar's life. A shocking turn of events leaves Shankar flabbergasted. Watch how the townspeople a curious mix of quirky characters like his best friend - Bholenath (Ninad Kamat) the town oracle, a simple dance teacher - Geeta (Pallavi Sharda) who has a soft corner for him, Haji (Govind Namdeo) A wealthy well wisher who keeps his third wife hidden from the villagers lest she runs away with another man like his previous two wives did Aatmaram (Asif Basra) help Shankar get on with his life. Will the tables turn for Shankar when a mysterious new character Ravi (Siddarth Makkar) enters their life?

Will Shankar have his innings in this cleverly manipulated greed game? Will Shankar have the final word? Watch Dus Tola - a lighthearted film for all ages to find out. The story is a mélange of unpredictable twists, satire and humor. The situations are hilarious and enlightening; the dialogue conveys the message strongly with wit and wisdom and refrains from being preachy.
