Uniclave: Al Punto
Joe Arpaio, Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff
“Al Punto” (To the Point) will air a special edition from Phoenix discussing the key decision made by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton regarding the SB 1070 law in Arizona. On Wednesday, July 29, the judge blocked four of the most controversial sections arguing that immigration is the responsibility of the federal government. Yet, there are those who will overlook the ruling and vow to continue the crackdown against illegal immigration. This Sunday, Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio joins Jorge Ramos in Al Punto to discuss why he believes undocumented immigrants are criminals and explains how he plans to enforce the law after Judge Bolton’s decision.
Ben Miranda, State Representative (D-AZ)
Those who opposed the law welcomed the decision and said the ruling sends a strong message
to other states who might want to pass similar laws. Yet, they recognized that it is a temporary injunction and are taking the ruling with caution. Democratic state representative from Arizona, Ben Miranda comes to Al Punto to explain why the Hispanic community should not let its guard down.
Ezequiel Hernandez, Legal Analyst
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer called Judge Bolton’s decision “a bump in the road” and the same day the law went into effect, the state of Arizona filed an appeal to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. Legal analyst Ezequiel Hernandez explains the remaining options in what promises to be a long legal battle, which could go all the way to the Supreme Court.
