Sometimes, there's a lot of fun to be had from reading Ricky Gervais's blog. Having not checked in for a while, I went on to Ricky Gervais... Obviously to see what new was up in the world of everyone's favorite (or least favorite, there's really no middle ground) British comedian. I knew he had a lot on his plate, but things just keep getting busier for him, it seems. Not only is he working on his new series Life's Too Short (a sitcom in the same vein as The Office and Extras), but he's busy sending friend Karl Pilkington around the world for the second season of An Idiot Abroad.
Abroad, which aired on the Science Channel earlier this year, features Pilkington being immersed in various cultures around the world. The only problem? According to Gervais, "Karl is a f**king idiot." He means it lovingly, of course, because Karl and his perfectly round head have made it into two Gervais productions: The Ricky Gervais Show on HBO (in which Gervais, Pilkington, and collaborator Stephen Merchant appear as cartoon versions of themselves) and Abroad, which focuses exclusively on Karl and rarely features appearances by Gervais or Merchant (though they do occasionally leave voicemails to make fish-out-of-water Karl even more miserable).
The new season of An Idiot Abroad revolves around a bucket list, as the show's first season involved Karl seeing the seven wonders of the world. Gervais is tight-lipped on what these bucket list items are (for fear of spoiling Karl), but the image above makes me want to watch the series so much (that's Karl being bitten by the monkey).
"You can tell that because of all the years he's spent with me, this is not putting him off in the slightest," Gervais quipped on his blog. It hasn't put us off either, Ricky.
