"Holy s**t," Momoa said when he found out his character on Game of Thrones, was going to die in the season finale of the freshman series. "F**k, I'm dead!"
The hulking Hawaiian actor, also known for playing Ronon Dex on Stargate: Atlantis, starred as Khal Drogo, a barbaris Dothraki warlord who took on the young Daenerys as his wife. Their relationship, which started out to be one of fear, turned into a deeply loving one as the series progressed. However, tragedy struck when a a witch deliberately failed to heal one of Drogo's combat wounds, eventually putting him in a vegetative state and killing the unborn child of Daenerys and Drogo as well. Unable to bear seeing her "sun and stars" irreparably catatonic, Dany smothered him with a pillow, ending Drogo's unquestioned reign.
Drogo had been silent for a lot of the series, speaking only in grunts and few words before his warmongering speech after an attempt was made on his wife's life. “People say it’s easy — ‘You’re just sitting there!’” he told EW about playing the strong, silent type. “But it’s extremely hard to be extremely intimidating, and say everything but not say anything.”
"I’m bummed I’m not going back [to the show]," Momoa shared. "To play Khal Drogo was phenomenal and I wished there was more stuff he could have done. I’m going to miss that character.”
Game of Thrones will return for a second season in spring 2012.
