HP will push out a webOS 3.0 update for the HP TouchPad tablet in around ten days time, according to personal systems group chief Todd Bradley. Speaking on the shift of ex-Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein from his role as webOS lead to a more general position at the helm of product innovation, The Boston Globe reports, Bradley suggested that the TouchPad’s July 1 release was, in fact, a “soft launch” for the slate, and that advertising and other efforts will be redoubled from next week.
Part of that drive will be the first in what’s expected to be a number of updates for webOS, currently only available on the TouchPad. Speaking earlier this month of the somewhat lackluster reviews of the tablet, Rubinstein insisted that “our audiences get that webOS has the potential for greatness” before going on to claim that “most of the issues they cite are already known to us and will be addressed in short order by over-the-air software and app catalog updates.”
HP had already confirmed that an OTA update for webOS was imminent, but its exact roadmap for the new software had been unclear. What, exactly, it will bring to the tablet is also unknown, though launch-day reviews criticized occasionally stuttery performance among other glitches. More on the TouchPad in the full SlashGear
