A rumor is going around that UnwiredView says comes from trusted sources. According to the rumor, a new follow up to the Nokia N8 will be landing this spring. According to the sources the smartphone will still run Symbian and the big upgrade will be the addition of a camera with optical zoom. I like the idea of optical zoom on a camera phone.
I’m not so interested in the thought of Symbian though. The new phone will be the Nokia flagship and will have a 3.5-inch WVGA Clear Black display with Gorilla Glass covering the works. The processor inside is said to be a 1GHz CPU and the device reportedly packs in 512MB of RAM. There is an indication from the sources that the device will launch at MWC in February.
The catch to that rumor is that at MWC Nokia will have a lot of Windows Phone Mango devices there and an unveil of this N8 successor might upstage those Mango smartphones. It’s more than a little curious that a new flagship device would be using Symbian when the OS is on a phase out plan and Nokia is firmly tied to Mango.
