Sony Ericsson has detailed its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade plans, with the roll-out of Android 4.0 expected to hit the XPERIA arc S, XPERIA neo V and XPERIA ray first, from the end of March or the beginning of April 2012. The company has promised to upgrade all of its current devices to Ice Cream Sandwich, though it may be near the middle of next year before some users actually see the updated software. More details after the cut.
As of the end of April or early May, Sony Ericsson will begin pushing updates to the original XPERIA arc, as well as the XPERIA PLAY, XPERIA neo, XPERIA mini and mini XPERIA pro, and the XPERIA active. The Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will also be upgraded in the same period.
It’s worth noting that, just because the upgrade begins in certain months, doesn’t mean all users will receive it at once. Instead, Sony Ericsson will be pushing ICS out in a staggered fashion, with each upgrade cycle expected to take a number of weeks.
There’ll also be the potential for carrier delays, as Sony Ericsson’s software is put through its paces by operators to check that it doesn’t cause issues with their networks. Don’t think you’ll escape the company’s customized interface, though; as we saw in Sony Ericsson’s Android 4.0 developer preview, the UI tweaks are here to stay.
