This is the movie I'm probably most excited about this summer. Directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg, Super 8 reminds me of those Spielberg adventure movies from my childhood.
The movie takes place in the fictional town of Lillian, Ohio in 1979. A group of teenagers are making a monster movie with a Super 8 mm film. One night, while filming out by the tracks, they witness a train crash. Something escapes the damaged train. Soon, mysterious things happen around the town: disappearances and other unexplained events. The local deputy, played by Kyle Chandler, begins to investigate what's going on in the town and eventually learns that something inhuman is terrorizing the town.
Details of Super 8 have been kept to a minimum, as J.J. Abrams likes to do with his movies. But a few trailers have been released (including one during the Super Bowl). Another premiered during tonight's MTV Movie Awards, which we have for you below.
Super 8 will be released on June 10, 2011. From the early reviews I've read so far, there's a very positive reaction to the film.
