Sunny Deol V/s Subhash Ghai: The two biggies engage in war of words

Image
Sunny Deol is very upset with the way Subhash Ghai and his production house Mukta Arts have marketed Right Yaaa Wrong . Says Sunny, "It was always a good film. Mukta Arts has not been fair to it. They've publicized it like a small producer would have. For a large production house they really didn't seem to know what to do with the film. It was all talk talk talk... There were so many meetings and so many plans. But nothing happened. I'm fed up of all this empty talk. Now I only want to work on projects with a clear plan of action." Sunny feels Ghai was not interested in the film. "He didn't believe in Right Yaaa Wrong . And he was surrounded by advisers who were constantly trying to bisect and dissect the film. Filmmaking may be a team effort. But you can't have a team of people always providing inputs and advice. That only causes chaos and confusion. The film has to finally go by one man's vision. And that man is the director.&quo

"Well Done Abba is one of the most challenging films I've done" - Boman Irani

Image
They say that when actors reach their forties, they've either turned themselves into superstars or are thrown out of the business. But what would you call an actor who has got into the business of acting in his forties? What would you call an actor who has redefined the word superstar in his own right? And what would you call an actor who has won, not only critical acclaim and awards in his mid forties and fifties now, but has also won the respect, recognition and a rare grandiosity from his fellow co-stars? There's more! A rarity which makes this big man Boman come to tears when Dia Mirza once asked Irani to give her away to her future husband. We call it 'bidai'. A true father in every sense, Boman Irani is known amongst his female co-stars as 'Pops' or 'Abba'. The first time I met him in London, the actor came across as so effortlessly charming that you almost expect him to be carrying a briefcase full of vacuum cleaner parts to assem

Bodylicious Bipasha Basu sizzles the cover of FHM

Image
"If you are healthy and fit, everything looks good on you," says the stunning Bollywood actress, who's planning to go all the way as far as fitness is concerned. The March issue of FHM flaunts the bodylicious Bipasha Basu in a black swimsuit that looks every bit fetching...and why not? If you go through the pages, you will realise that the reasons which make this woman larger than life! She isn't just going great guns launching her fitness brand along with a fashion label, but, she's also an extremely girly girl... whether it's her undying love for diamonds, or even her commitment to all healthy things. Whether it's her innocence towards love, or the fact that she is one extremely positive woman, whatever it maybe, one thing is for sure that this woman is real. That way, it becomes totally needless to say that what you see is what you get, minus the pretence and the façade. If you would like to be on the same page as us, and if you'd wa

Priyanka in but no more Katrina, Deepika, Vidya and Anushka in JKSAH

Image
Debutant director Milap Zaveri has been forced to drop his big plans of roping in a dozen odd big names from the industry in his feature film Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai . Till about a fortnight back, he had made his intentions very clear about getting Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan and Anushka Sharma for a shot or two in his 'alien love story'. It all seemed just perfect and apt as well since his film has a Bollywood background with Riteish Deshmukh playing an assistant director and Ruslaan Mumtaz enacting the role of a superstar. This is why; it wasn't difficult to justify the presence of numerous leading men, ladies and other filmmakers in Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai . However, as is the current situation today, Milap would have to be content with half his wish list turning out to be true and the reason behind this is an age old issue - date problem - something that has always shown its ugly side ever since the inception of Bollywood. "Really, all th

Ash releases Rettachuzhi audio

Image
As we have reported earlier, Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai released the audio of Imayamum Sigaramum Rettachuzhi on Monday. The first copy of the audio was received by ace lyricist and poet Vairamuthu. The former Miss World, draped in a beautiful white designer sari, was accompanied by her mother. Two songs and a trailer were screened for the full-house crowd. Those who attended the function include the lead actors Bharathi Raja and Balachander, director Thamira, music director Karthik Raja, Ramanarayanan, V.C. Guhanathan, Abhirami Ramanthan, Hansraj Saxena, actor Parthiban, directors Sasi, Lingusamy and Ameer. The dignitaries showered praises on the Bachchan bahu; Parthiban even recited a poem in her praise. Directed by Thamira and produced by S Pictures, Rettachuzhi is a full-length comedy. Set in a village near Tirunelveli, the story is about two village elders and their hilarious antics. There is a young romance included, but the main plot revolves around these misch

NVIDIA 3DTV Play adds 3D HDTV & gaming to any GeForce machine

Image
NVIDIA have announced a new string to their 3D bow, in the shape of NVIDIA 3DTV Play, a way to hook up GeForce-based notebooks and PCs to HDTVs for full 3D video and gaming. A new software app – that works with any GeForce GPU-using machine with either DVI or HDMI connectivity – 3DTV Play supports 1080p24, 720p60 and 720p50 3D formats and will work both with active-shutter TV glasses and passive polarized glasses. As well as full HD Blu-ray 3D playback, the system offers streaming 3D video support and the ability to convert over 400 games titles from 2D into 3D, in real-time, with no patches or extra software. The graphics company has hooked up with Panasonic, who will be demonstrating the system on their upcoming “Panasonic Touch the Future Tour”, taking 50-inch 3D-capable HDTVs around the US in the hope of coercing a few sales out of wowed viewers. NVIDIA 3DTV Play will go on sale later in the spring, priced at $39.99. Meanwhile those already using NVIDIA 3D Vision will be offered

Dell G2410H 24-inch WLED monitor debuts

Image
Dell has been offering 24-inch and large LCDs for computers for a long time now. The company has added a new 24-inch LCD to its line called the G2410H 24-inch WLED monitor. The screen features an ambient light sensor for adjusting brightness energy saving modes, and needs under 0.15W of power in sleep mode when using the VGA input. The materials the screen is made from are green with arsenic free glass and no mercury, polyvinyl chloride, or BFRs. Like many of the new 24-inch screen, the G2410H has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 rather than 1920 x 1200 that used to be the default 24-inch LCD resolution. Screen brightness is 250 cd/m2 and the screen has a 1000:1 contrast ratio. The screen supports 16.7 million colors, has a pixel pitch of 0.277mm and connectivity includes VGA and DVI. The monitor is available now for $339.

B&W P5 headphones unboxed, first-impressions, creeping into Apple stores

Image
When a high-end, respected speaker manufacturer like Bowers & Wilkins decide they’re going to funnel some of their magic into headphones, the audiophile world can’t help but perk up. Announced late last year, the B&W P5 headphones have only just shown up – though not in stock – at the Apple Store, but over at Head-Fi they’ve a set of production samples to unbox and generally play with. First impressions are of superlative build quality with excellent attention to detail and fit. As for audio quality, turns out the P5’s may show up the limitations of your iPod’s DAC; performance is great from an iMac, decent through an iPhone or iPod shuffle, but there’s talk of the iPod classic sounding muddy. Meanwhile other people suggest the P5’s don’t feel as “grippy” on your head as rival sets, while they can also leave your ears feeling very hot. More photos of the B&W P5 headphones here. Apple are currently listing them for $299.95, though there’s no indication of when they’ll a

Turn your Wacom tablet into a Cintiq clone with new kit and some elbow grease

Image
If you are the artsy type that uses a Wacom tablet to draw on your computer, you may have lusted after one of the sweet Cintiq displays that let you draw right on the screen rather than use a tablet. You may have been bummed at the price of the Cintiq screens too at well over $1000. Fear not, if you are a DIY type, you can take your Wacom tablet and turn it into a Cintiq clone on the cheap. OK, maybe not cheap, but the kit costs less than the Cintiq for sure. The kit is available for four different Wacom tablet models and includes the enclosure and other materials. Kits are offered for the Intuos4, Intuos3 A4, Intuos2, and UD starting at $221.55. The rub is that the kit doesn’t include all the parts that you need for the conversion. You will also need your own LCD screen sized depending on the tablet you are converting along with the enclosure kit and Wacom tablet. Only kits for the Intuos3 and Intuos4 are available right now.

Muzatch MZH-1200 solar charger for iPhone proves sometimes green isn’t pretty

Image
Over the last few weeks, there have been several new solar chargers for the iPhone that have turned up. The last one I mentioned was the Novothink Solar Surge , which looked pretty darn cool to me. Today we find another solar charger making the rounds for the iPhone and other iPod devices. The charger is called the Muzatch MZH-1200 iPhone Power Station . It appears that the charger is about half the size of the iPhone and only crams a 1000mAh battery inside. The thing is not attractive at all to my eyes and the maker claims it will charge your iPhone about half way on a full charge from the 1000mAh battery. The charger plugs into the charge and sync port of the iPhone and weighs 9.8 ounces. It has four LED lights to show the charge mode and a solar panel for getting juice from the sun. You can pick one up for right under $50 in blue, black, silver, white, or green colors.

Nokia C6 touchscreen QWERTY slider leaks

Image
We made no bones about our general displeasure with the Nokia N97 and N97 mini QWERTY keyboards, the lack of tactile feedback of which (and general bumpy rubberiness) let to a sluggish typing experience, so we’re hoping this leaked shot of the purported Nokia C6 turns out to be authentic. Ostensibly a 5800 with a slide-out QWERTY, the keys look more in line with those of the N900. Elsewhere the rumored specifications include 256MB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot, and of course we can glean 3G connectivity and a touchscreen from the image itself. However there’s no tilting display as on the N97/N97 mini , something which might disappoint some would-be buyers. The C6 follows Nokia’s new naming convention, officially announced with the launch of the Nokia C5 candybar. The Cseries will be Nokia’s core, entry-level range – as opposed to the social entertainment focused Xseries, business-centric Eseries and flagship Nseries – and according to the leak the C6 will arrive

Nintendo DS2 details leak: bigger, higher-res screens, accelerometer, late-2010 launch?

Image
Nintendo’s DSi XL isn’t even on US shelves yet, and already gamers are prodding developers to find out details about the next-gen handheld. News on the Nintendo DS2 was top of the list for RPad.TV when they hit up GDC 2010, and they’ve managed to extract a few choice nuggets in the process. The DS2 – the official name of which nobody would, or could, spill – will apparently keep its dual-displays, but the panels will be larger, higher-resolution and have so minimal a gap between them that titles will be able to in effect use them as a single, big screen. Other hardware news is that the DS2 will have an integrated accelerometer, which RPad.TV aren’t too impressed by but which could indicate Nintendo are looking to leverage the larger panels and customer hunger for ebooks to better position the handheld as a portable reading platform (like a mini enTourage eDGe, though without the E Ink). The dev kit, meanwhile, is believed to be as powerful as that of the GameCube, and developers ar

Pocketbook 360° reviewed: fastest ereader around

Image
Given the number of wireless-enabled, high-aspiring ereaders we’ve seen promised for launch and then failing to turn up on schedule – Plastic Logic and Spring Design, we’re looking at you – there are times when you wonder if you’re better off with a regular ebook device that does the basics well. One such example might be the Pocketbook 360° , a non-wireless reader around the size of a CD case and half the weight of a Kindle or nook; it may not let you download ebooks while on the move, but it does apparently boast super-fast speed and usability. Roger Pelizzari has been reviewing the 360° over at Nate’s Ebook News, and he’s very impressed. Initial boot is a matter of 10 seconds, while ebooks open in 5 seconds. Most impressive, though, is page-turn time. The 5-inch E Ink Vizplex 600 x 800 monochrome panel flips through pages in about half a second, a rate which Roger reckons is “hardly noticeable” and twice as fast as Amazon or B&N’s devices. There’s also more flexibility with

Hanvon BC10C multitouch Win7 tablet gets tested: premium feel

Image
Hanvon’s BC10C (and its BA10E sibling) was a surprising stand-out from CeBIT 2010 recently, a multitouch-capable 10-inch slate running Windows 7. jkkmobile managed to bring one home from the show, and has been testing it out to see whether it’s all good news. The upside is that media performance – thanks to the 1.3GHz Celeron ULV processor – is decent; the downside is that CULV notebook style components don’t add up to extremes of battery life. In fact, the BC10C only managed 3.5hrs in this pre-production sample. That’s in no small part because there’s no CPU throttling in use: the 1.3GHz chip runs at full speed all the time. Of course, that shouldn’t be the case in shipping versions, which will begin to hit Asia come March 25th. Even with patchy runtimes, jkkmobile is still very impressed with the Hanvon slate. It’s key strengths are web browsing and multimedia – there’s an HDMI output for using the Intel GMA 4500 graphics with an external HDTV or monitor – and as long as you c

CDMA Nexus One stock already headed to Verizon?

Image
Last we heard through the rumor-mill, Verizon were readying themselves for a March 23rd launch of the CDMA version of the Google Nexus One. In apparent preparation for that, Chinese newspaper Economic Daily News are supposedly reporting that HTC have begun shipments of the handset to Verizon in the US, with European shipments of the GSM Nexus One headed to Vodafone “soon”. Vodafone UK, for their part, added a pre-registration option on their site late last week for the incoming GSM Nexus One, though so far it’s only listed as “coming soon”. According to the Chinese paper, Verizon are expected to launch their Nexus One either late this month or in April 2010. The CDMA Nexus One was spotted clearing the FCC earlier in the year. The handset is expected to be functionality identical to the existing, GSM model, only swapping out that device’s UMTS/HSPA connectivity for a CDMA/EVDO Rev.A modem instead.

FujiFilm Finepix Z700 Brings Pet Detection to the Camera Game

Image
FujiFilm wants to make sure that when you buy their latest point-and-shoot, the Z700, that you’re completely covered. You know, in the “detect this” department. After all, what good is a camera that can only detect red eye? Or only detect faces? All of that’s in the past. Well, welcome to 2010, where the next big thing is . . . Pet detection! The Finepix Z700 from FujiFilm is the first of its kind (we’ll let you be the judge of whether that’s a good thing or not). The camera proper has a 12MP lens, and it’s of the point-and-shoot nature. It’s got a touchscreen interface, so we know this won’t appeal to everyone. Unfortunately though, it looks like the Z700 is still a bit rough around the edges. During an event this last week, the camera was fully capable of taking regular photos, but when it started snapping photos of animals, things got rocky. Apparently, when a dog is in motion, consider the “pet detection” a no-go. It’s just not happening. Furthermore, while the camera was able to

Apple iPad Sells 120,000 Units Total on Friday

Image
The iPad went on pre-order status on Friday, and from early estimates, the tablet has taken on quite the success. While we’re still waiting to see some end of the weekend numbers, we’re pretty sure that the Cupertino-based company can take some solace in the fact that the tablet has been a success. Of course, in situations like this, numbers generally speak louder than words. So, how’s it break down? From what we can tell, just after the first day, Apple reached somewhere in the ball park of 120,000 tablets sold. As it goes, it looks like the WiFi-only version of the iPad was the largest seller, and we’re likely to think that has something to do with the simple fact that it’s due out on April 3rd. Another shocker though, is that it’s also looking like the orders for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models were just about equally split. So, while cost may have something to do with it, for the most part it’s looking like customers just don’t mind dropping the extra coin for the extra space. Rev

Kingston HyperX 2400MHz DDR3 RAM

Image
Kingston claims that their latest HyperX 2400MHz DDR3 RAM is the Usain Bolt of the RAM world, and who are we to dispute that? Timed at 9-11-9-27-2, we forsee that gamers as well as folks who place a high priority on performance will definitely make a beeline for the HyperX when it hits the streets. The RAM itself looks extremely menacing, just take a gander at its fins and you will know what we mean. Guess that works best to keep it running nice and cool while your computer is busy cranking out those phenomenal frame rates.

Cowon J3 Media Player Officially Announced

Image
Cowon has officially announced its J3 PMP, which had seemed rather mythical before this, seeing as there wasn’t much information on it. Now a clear picture of the media player has surfaced, not to mention specifications. While there doesn’t seem to be any official pricing mentioned, we do have some specifications of the device, which include: 3.3-inch 480 x 272 pixel AMOLED touchscreen Accelerometer Capacity of 4GB, 8GB or 16GB Bluetooth TV-out

Apple iPad orders “so overwhelming” new in-store collections frozen?

Image
The storm of iPad preorders this morning has reportedly been “so overwhelming” that Apple’s customer services team are apparently warning would-be buyers that there may not be stock to pick up in-store come April 3rd. According to multiple MacDailyNews readers, buyers who have contacted Apple’s customer card team to change their order from delivery to in-store collection are being told that the tablets may in fact be in short supply at their Saturday launch. That’s because, to change from delivery to pick-up, the order must in fact be cancelled and then re-placed as an in-store collection. However, the “overwhelming” number of orders have seemingly left Apple uncertain as to whether they’ll have sufficient store units to satisfy that demand. It’s unclear whether this is a US-wide situation or limited to certain stores, and Apple themselves are yet to officially comment. Previous rumors and leaks suggested that iPad production had faced issues and that initial numbers of devices w

Eye-Fi Pro X2 shipping today

Image
How long does it take to get an 8GB memory card to the market? If you’re Eye-Fi, and the card is the WiFi 802.11n-toting Eye-Fi Pro X2 then it’s a couple of months; the company has announced that its latest wireless-enabled memory card is shipping from today, promising faster transfer speeds and improved overall performance. According to the Eye-Fi blog, that’s all down to their new X2 engine, which bundles together a 200 MHz ARM926 processor with an MMU, dedicated flash and radio interface engines, and encryption acceleration hardware. Combined, they’re good for improved WiFi-triangulation geotagging accuracy and “Endless Memory”, Eye-Fi’s new system whereby images and video are automatically deleted from the X2 once the card has verified that they’ve been correctly uploaded to the server. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 will also come with Eye-Fi Center, the newest version of the company’s desktop manager app for PC and Mac. Eye-Fi Center will also be available for existing Eye-Fi owners, thou

Spring Design Alex on sale Tuesday March 16th?

Image
From one delayed ebook reader to another, and it’s now the turn of the Spring Design Alex to throw some grist into the rumor mill. According to our tipster the company’s Android-based dual display ereader – which has an E Ink panel up top and an LCD touchscreen underneath – will go on sale at the company’s site come Tuesday March 16th. Spring Design had previously been promising early March 2010 availability for the Alex, though that time period came and went. In fact, at time of posting the company’s store page still reads “Thanks for your patience. We’re almost ready with our Alex store. Keep checking in and by the first week of March you’ll be able to order your Alex online.” Before that, a February 22nd release had been suggested . We’ve got a request in with Spring Design for more information, and will update as and when we hear back from them.

Plastic Logic QUE delay confirmed: arrives Summer 2010

Image
As expected after this morning’s report , Plastic Logic have officially confirmed that the launch of the QUE ebook reader will be delayed until Summer 2010. In an official statement from company CEO Richard Archuleta, the decision is described as “to fine-tune the features and enhance the overall product experience.” Plastic Logic are promising free shipping to preorder customers as an apology for the delay; the QUE was originally expected to ship in mid-April 2010. The device – which uses an E Ink display like other ebook readers, but paired with a unique plastic backplane of Plastic Logic’s own design – is being positioned as a business device, with pricing to match. The entry-level model kicks off at around $650. Plastic Logic statement: From: Richard Archuleta Subject: QUE proReader Shipping Update Thank you for being one of the first customers to order a QUE proReader from Plastic Logic. We appreciate your business. Today, I wanted to personally inform you that we are postponi

iPhone Pro concept adds slide-out gaming controls

Image
If we’re being honest, we far prefer clever renders of what designers think the next-gen iPhone should look like rather than so-called “leaked” shots that smell unduly fake. Italian design firm ADR Studio have thrown their oar in with this, the iPhone Pro, coupling iPad styling with some Transformer-like slide out panels offering gaming controls. It’s not the first time we’ve seen designers attempt to cater to gamers with their iPhone concepts. Given Apple’s attempts in recent months to position the smartphone – and its iPod touch cousin – as a legitimate gaming handheld we wouldn’t be surprised if the company themselves were looking at how to make the control experience better, though we don’t imagine they’d quite take the step to giving the next-gen phone wings. Elsewhere in the iPhone Pro concept there’s a MagSafe connector for easier charging, a bigger display and a front-facing camera for video calls. The power button slips from the top to the back and gains some MacBook Pro

Lenovo L2261 Wide, L2361p Wide & L2561x Wide with Multitouch 1080p LCDs outed

Image
A trio of new Lenovo LCD displays have been outed , though so far they’re yet to show up on the company’s own site. The Lenovo L2261 Wide and L2361p Wide are 21.5- and 23-inches in size, while the Lenovo L2461x Wide with Multitouch is 23.6-inches and, as the name suggests, offers a multitouch-capable touchscreen layer. All three support Full HD 1080p. The Lenovo L2261 Wide has 250cd/m2 brightness and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, along with an anti-glare screen coating and an integrated PSU. Connectivity includes VGA and HDCP-compliant DVI-D, though no HDMI, and the display adjusts for tilt and swivel but won’t rotate for portrait use. As for the Lenovo L2351p Wide, that looks a whole lot more like an LCD HDTV and gains an HDMI input too; it also has a 0.3-megapixel webcam, speakers and a microphone, along with a three port USB 2.0 hub. It too offers 250cd/m2 brightness and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Finally, the Lenovo L2461x Wide with Multitouch has a 2-megapixel webcam, speakers and

iPad gets open ePUB support; 3G control detailed

Image
If you’re still wavering about slapping in your credit card details for an iPad preorder , perhaps some new tidbits about functionality might change your mind. Apple have quietly added a few new details to their iBooks and 3G pages, including confirmation that readers will be able to load non-DRM ePUB format titles to their iPad via iTunes. That accompanies support for Apple’s own, DRM-encrypted ebooks and digital content that will be purchased on-device through the iBookstore. Previously, while we’d known which format Apple would be using, it was unclear whether titles from outside of the iBooks ecosystem would be supported. Still, it looks like there’ll be no way to download such content directly onto the iPad itself. Meanwhile Apple have thrown up some screenshots of the 3G management system by which owners of the iPad WiFi + 3G models will be able to control their mobile data usage. As well as being able to sign up and cancel on-device, there’ll also be a running total – use

Lian Li PC-T1R Spider case gets tested: arachnophobes need not apply

Image
Bizarre PC cases are nothing new, but Lian Li’s PC-T1R Spider does manage to look different even in that unusual crowd. Described as a “test bench” case – that is, one which leaves the components open and accessible for frequent tinkerers – the PC-T1R takes a mini-ITX board and a slimline optical drive, while looking like a spider with half its regular legs. techPowerUp got their hands on a pre-production version , and they seem impressed. It’s the distinctive looks which swung opinion for the Lian Li; they actually say it’s not much of a test bench case, since you need to do some serious cable tying if you want to keep them out of the way, and the whole thing flexes around the multiple joints. Still, we can see the new Lian Li garnering the same sort of fanbase as flocked to the Antec Skeleton , one of the better known – and similarly eye-catching – test bench cases of late. Lian Li are yet to announce final pricing, but the PC-T1R Spider is expected to come in at around €150 ($20

Bike concept for 10 to 15-year-olds is coolest bike ever

Image
This has been the week of cool bike concepts. Earlier this week I talked a bit about the cool carbon fiber electric bike . Today I ran across a really cool bike concept aimed at kids from 10 to 15 years old, though I can’t see why older folks who like cool design couldn’t ride it too. The concept is called Bike 10 to 15 and looks like the bike Tron learned to ride before his parents bought him a light cycle. For some reason the thing also reminds me of what an Xbox branded bike might look like. The big feature of the concept is a seat that can be adjusted to any height along with the bar the seat sits on. The frame also stretches horizontally to put the rider in the correct position. Any guy who rode a bike too big for them will tell you having that bar at the right height is important, particularly if you plan to procreate later in life.

Asus P6X58D Premium mainboard for Intel LGA1366 CPUs launches

Image
Asus was whipping new mainboards out at CeBIT earlier this month and now that the show is over, Asus is still offering up new hardware. Asus has unveiled a new mainboard today called the P6X58D Premium aimed at enthusiasts looking to build up a sweet Intel LGA1366 rig. The new board supports the 32nm 6-core processors that are on the roadmap and has lots of other high-end features. The board has six SATA 3Gb/s ports and a pair of 6Gb/s SATA ports too. It also has two USB 3.0 ports on the rear panel and eight more USB 2.0 ports to boot. The board supports up to 24GB of RAM and uses the Intel X58 chipset with ISCG10R. Asus uses the NEC USB 3.0 controller and has the mainboard has a pair of FireWire ports. Both 3-way SLI from NVIDIA and CrossFireX from ATI are supported. The board uses a fanless cooling system and supports DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC sound.

Novothink Solar Surge for iPhone and iPod touch debuts

Image
One day I hope that all my gadgets get power from the sun or other methods that don’t require me to remember to plug them in. I like my iPhone, but the thing sucks down power when I play games on it like a boozehound with a fresh six-pack. If you are out all day with your iPhone or iPod touch and want some extra juice, Novothink has a new solar charger called the Solar Surge that is just for you. The Solar Surge is a slip on case that is a bit reminiscent of the Mophie Juice Pack with an open top. The Surge has a solar panel on the back and an internal lithium ion battery that provides extra run time for your iPhone. The Solar Surge can also be plugged into a USB port to charge when you aren’t out in the sun. The iPhone version has a 1320mAH internal battery and the iPod touch version is 1500mAh. Both versions use smart changing to stop drawing power when the battery is full. 3G talk time on the iPhone using the thing is up to four hours longer than without it. The iPhone version is $

HTC Incredible snapped in Verizon livery

Image
Other than the iPhone, it really seems to me that Verizon gets most of the cool phones first. Maybe AT&T is afraid another cool phone that users actually use for data on their network will do them in. We have been hearing grumblings about the HTC Incredible for a while now and the device has been spied all decked out for Verizon service. We know some of the details on the handset already. The beastie will get an 8MP camera with dual LED flash and a Snapdragon processor running at 768MHz rather than the 1GHz it is capable of. I would guess that the CPU speed is underclocked to reduce heat and extend battery life. Other know features of the device include 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, Android 2.1 with Sense UI, an optical track pad, FM tuner, and WiFi. The handset uses a big 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED screen with a resolution of 800 x 480 and a 1300mAH battery.

Apple Store down: iPad incoming

Image
It should come as little surprise, what with the well-publicized iPad preorder sale starting today, but the Apple Store has been taken down for updating. Apple’s new tablet kicks off at $499 and is expected to go on sale at 8.30am EST; of course, Apple could surprise us and add a few more updates into the mixture as well. Recent rumors have tipped an updated Mac Pro desktop, using Intel’s new Core i7-980 Gulftown processor. There has also been disappointment recently regarding Apple’s apparent reluctance to put one of the newer Core i5 or i7 processors into their MacBook Pro line, which is currently still using the last-generation of Core 2 Duo chips. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple kept today’s excitement solely for the iPad. The WiFi-only iPad models will be priced at $499 for the 16GB iPad, $599 for the 32GB iPad and $699 for the 64GB iPad. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until late-April for the 3G version of the tablet, which will be priced at $629, $729 and $829 res

Zoom drops new G2Nu and G2.1Nu guitar pedals for rockers

Image
My lack of musical talent has been well documented. I attribute my musical inability to the lack of interest in any sort of practice. Guitarists have all sorts of gadgets and gear they can use to make their music sound better and different like effects pedals and other stuff. A company called Zoom has unveiled a couple new effects pedals for guitarists called the G2Nu and the G2.1Nu. The new pedals offer features that were created with the help of Steve Vai. The devices get overdrive/distortion sounds along with twenty different guitar amp and stomp box effects for different sounds that include gain settings and harmonic character. The pedals have patches that offer musicians sounds from the 60’s and 70’s and the G2.1Nu adds an integrated expression pedal for more control over the sound. Both of the devices can allow for recording to a computer with USB outputs and feature a 1.9-inch LCD for settings and more. Free software to allow the user to monitor and capture tones on the computer

Galaxy dual core GTS 250 video card makes geeks drool

Image
If you are a PC gaming geek that likes new gaming hardware for your rig, step back a bit so you don’t drool all over your $150 gaming keyboard before you read this. Galaxy has unveiled its suitably awesome dual-core GTS 250 retail edition video card with dual fans to keep things nice and frosty. According to Galaxy the card turned in a 3Dmark Vantage score of P13946 putting in somewhere between the GTX 285 and GTX 260 in performance. The cards cooling solution has a pair of 7cm fans and the surface of the cooler is made from aluminum. That is all the details that Galaxy is giving up on the slick dual GPU video card right now, which admittedly isn’t much. The company isn’t willing to part with important specs like GPU clocks, pricing, and availability.

OutRun real-world gaming cart simulates road, allows for real accidents

Image
Take a SEGA OutRun arcade cabinet, strap on a go-kart and get a university to fund the whole thing, and you’re approaching Garnet Hertz’s “immersive driving experience” project. The UC Irvine post-doctoral researcher has adapted the road-ready (though we’re not sure how legal) setup to track the upcoming highway and convert it into the 8-bit on-screen graphics. That way, you drive a real vehicle down a virtual road. Given there’s more to road safety than tracking the white lines Hertz’s system follows in order to fashion its graphics – which come complete with OutRun-style palm trees, naturally – the golf cart based vehicle only manages a 15mph top speed. Hopefully the driver thus has enough attention to keep an eye on other vehicles and pedestrians. Still, the researcher doesn’t actually expect any of this to end up on the open road; instead, it’s intended to highlight the limitations of computer vision and the discrepancies between real-life and games. ”No matter how good compute

Airport security check Heather Mills' artificial leg for explosives

Heather Mills' false leg was checked for explosives at London's Heathrow airport after she set off the security alarm. The 42-year-old ex-wife of Paul McCartney was at Heathrow to fly to the US. After the alarm went off Mills was asked to roll up her trouser leg and her prosthetic leg was swabbed in public. But Mills is reported to have taken the incident quite lightly. "Heather complied with security's requirements with good grace," the New York Post quoted Mills' rep, as telling Sky News. He added: "Heather wasn't furious at all, she completely understands what has to be done for 21st century travel." "She was swabbed because something set off the alarm in the metal detector archway," a spokeswoman for airport owner BAA said. She added: "Staff could not see inside the leg so it was swabbed instead. This would be the same protocol if a passenger had a cast on a broken arm or leg."

"Alice" still earning strongly at UK box office

Disney's 3D version of "Alice in Wonderland" retained its position at the top of the British box office over the weekend, easily holding off challengers like Matt Damon's new film "Green Zone." Director Tim Burton's version of the classic Lewis Carroll fantasy, with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, made 7.3 million pounds ($11 million) in its second week, according to Screen International. Last week it beat Avatar's record for a UK 3D opening by 26 percent, taking 10.5 million pounds. Martin Scorsese's psychological thriller "Shutter Island" was new at two with Leonardo DiCaprio investigating the disappearance of a murderess from an offshore asylum. The critically acclaimed Green Zone, featuring Damon searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, could only manage third place on its UK debut with a 2 million pound take. Avatar was down two places to four, now

Macau gov't to regulate the building of casinos

Macau will seek to regulate the building of new casinos, its chief executive said, a sign that the government is trying to temper overheating in the world's fastest-growing gambling market. Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui's comments could brighten the outlook for existing casino operators, including Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts and their locally listed units Sands China and Wynn Macau. Potential curbs would help profits by limiting oversupply. "Apart from those we have agreed in principle in the past, in construction and those already approved, we will regulate (approval of the building of new casinos) in the future," Chui told a news conference on Tuesday after delivering his first policy address. He also said the government plans to set up a regulatory body to monitor the growth of the gambling industry. Shares of U.S.-listed casino companies operating in Macau were higher on Tuesday after weakening on Monday amid wariness that

Asin’s brush with ‘Avatar’ James Cameron

Image
Hollywood big shot ‘Avatar’ director James Cameron was in New Delhi last week to attend 'India Today Conclave 2010' on the theme ‘New Decade: Great Expectations’ organized by The India Today Group. At the conclave Asin was also invited to speak at the youth forum about the theme of ‘Reality Vs Idealism’ in movies in front of James Cameron. The southern beauty pulled it off with grace and confidence. Asin spoke on how the youth can break free and think out of the box to bring change in movies. She stated, “Everyone is a commodity, exactly replaced by the next talented non-name. If a formula works, then it’s flogged to death, new ideas are dammed. Mediocre products will continue to be made unless someone stands up and says - I will not do it, and then be prepared for a fall out- which in the case of an actor I can say is lesser endorsements, lesser PR, lesser visibility and so called “industry friends”.” According to her, change is not just brought about by th

SLB leaves Chenab Gandhi

Image
There were occasional tittle-tattle about ‘Chenab Gandhi’ which boasts of a striking cast - Big B, Vidya Balan and Rajeev Khandelwal. The film is directed by Vibhu Puri, a one-time assistant of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who had been part of Bhansali’s several films. The film which had been till now under the production hand of Bhansali, sadly sees a turn of events of late. According to latest buzz, the film won’t be produced by SLB and the director is said to be looking out for takers. Puri confirmed the speculations by saying that Bhansali has distanced himself from the film and he will no longer be producing it. But the director dismisses any doubts of dumping the film. He said, “It doesn't mean that the project is shelved. In fact I'm planning to speak to other producers about this project and hopefully will get a breakthrough soon.” We really hope the director finds an equally good producer like Bhansali…
