Last night on BBC America, audiences were treated to the first episode of the British miniseries import The Wire, a show that, despite some flaws, was actually quite good. The six episode series wraps up next week in the U.K., but for Americans the show will likely run until September 21. If you happen to miss that last episode, though, worry not: the DVD and Blu-ray will be hitting shelves less than a week later.
According to Amazon.com, The Hour is slated for a September 27, the Tuesday following the Wednesday the show's finale airs. The two-disc set is retailing on the site for $26.99. There's no news of what special features will be included in the set, if any.
The Hour follows investigative journalist Freddie Lyons (Ben Whishaw) as he begins to uncover a conspiracy plot while simultaneously working behind-the-scenes of an innovative news series (also titled The Hour), which is hosted by the womanizing Hector Madden (Dominic West, The Wire), and produced by Freddie's maybe-love interest Bel Rowley (Romola Garai). The series has drawn conspiracies to the critically acclaimed AMC drama Mad Men, though in my review of the show I thought it equal touches of AMC's less successful series Rubicon.
The Hour's second episode will air on BBC America next Wednesday, August 24, at 10/9c. You can order The Hour on
