Aaja Nachle Music Review

Image
Music of Aaja Nachle serves to be special. And the reasons are more than one. a) Aaja Nachle is THE comeback film of Madhuri Dixit. Of course, there is no question of a compromise when it comes to music here. b) The film's title. When a movie itself screams 'come dance', it should have enough ammunition in it's soundtrack to make you dance indeed. c) The Yash Raj factor. After Jhoom Barabar Jhoom they desperately need a hit soundtrack. The need of the situation is much more than a single super successful track (Chak De India) or a critically appreciated album (Laaga Chunari Mein Daag). Do the composer duo Salim-Sulaiman and lyricist team of Piyush Mishra, Jaideep Sahni and Asif Ali Beg do well to get the desired results? The way it turns out eventually is that the album isn't quite 'special' (as one would have hoped) but does have a few tunes which should make you play them on for some time to come at least. In the nutshell, is it a superhit al

No Smoking Music Review

Image
Anurag Kashyap's love for making dark films with varied subjects continues. After Black Friday and an unreleased Paanch , he returns with No Smoking which perhaps has been his quickest film to travel from conceptualization to hitting the screens. Touchwood! Produced by Kumar Mangat and Vishal Bhardwaj who had also collaborated in last year's release Omkara, No Smoking has John Abraham and Ayesha Takia in the lead. With music by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics by Gulzar saab, one expects an unconventional soundtrack in the offering. Well, unconventional it is and in at least a couple of places, exciting too! This has to be one of the most original tracks ever written! ' Jab Bhi Cigarette ' is the opening song of the album and may well be termed as the title song of the album. First to arrive is the 'jazz' version of the song which obviously creates a jazz mood with all the right instruments in place as required in a tune belonging to this musical style. Th

Mumbai Salsa Music Review

Image
With corporate houses getting into film production in a big way, expect different subjects to be explored in Bollywood flicks being made currently. One such film is Mumbai Salsa which has it's setting in a night club/discotheque by the same name. Presented by Vikram Bhatt, the film has debutant director Manoj Tyagi at the helm who in the past has written films like Satta, Page 3, Apaharan and Corporate. Mumbai Salsa has a young starcast comprising of Linda Arsenio, Indraneel Sengupta, Dilip Thadeshwar, Manjari Phadnis, Vir Das and Neelam Chauhan. After Lucky - No Time For Love , Adnan Sami wasn't quite lucky with his compositions for Dhamaal . In collaboration with lyricist Sameer, one thought that he may turn lucky this time around. Well, it is doesn't turn out to be the case though. Title song ' Mumbai Salsa ' is the first to come and in spite of repeated listening and constant bombardment of the song on the music channels, it is not really the kind that c

Speed

Image
Vikram Bhatt has often been accused of borrowing heavily from foreign films. In SPEED, he borrows from the Hollywood film CELLULAR, which, in turn, reminded you of PHONE BOOTH. Despite the similarities, SPEED is slick, has several compelling moments and isn’t as predictable as one thought it would be. SPEED is an edge of the seat thriller and unravels at a feverish pace. The only problem is, there’re a few rough edges [a few questions unanswered, predictable climax], but the pros easily outnumber the cons here. In a nutshell, SPEED is an engrossing fare, with moments that stay with you. What do you do when you get a phone call from a stranger begging you to save her life? What would you do if your only ray of hope is your phone? Zayed Khan comes to London to convince his girlfriend Tanushree Dutta to give him another chance to prove his love for her. Meanwhile, Sanjay Suri, an undercover agent, receives a CD from Aftab Shivdasani and Sophie Chaudhary, which contains the recording
