iPod nano 7th gen teardown reveals supplier swap

Image
Apple’s new iPod nano has undergone the teardown treatment, with the updated 7th generation PMP now revealed as having a quiet change in component suppliers. After stripping down the new media player to its component parts, iFixit discovered Apple has shifted from Toshiba to SanDisk flash memory as well as making more obvious software changes. Meanwhile, there’s also a new processor to be found, though Apple isn’t talking specifications. Instead, it’s more keen to discuss the streamlined UI, which now uses a full icon view rather than a more fiddly grid layout, and the integrated support for Nike+. The component supplier switch is likely a cost chasing measure, given Apple has cut pricing for the iPod nano in the seventh generation. The 8GB model is now $129 and the 16GB is now $149, and if you consider there’s now no need to buy separate Nike+ receiver hardware it’s even more of a good deal.

iPhone 4S unlocked option November in US

Image
Apple US’ pre-order page for the iPhone 4S has finally come online, offering not only would-be buyers a choice of AT&T, Sprint or Verizon options for the new dual-core smartphone, but the promise of a contract-free, unlocked version in next month. According to the page, shoppers can “get iPhone unlocked and contract-free. Coming in November” paying the full, unsubsidized price for the handset but avoiding any agreement lock-in. The option has already been made available at Apple UK, where customers can opt to pay £499, £599 and £699 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB iPhone 4S versions respectively. In fact, Apple UK is only offering unlocked, SIM-free handsets: if buyers want a subsidized phone they they need to head over to one of the carriers for it. In the US, however, the unlocked iPhone 4S will only support GSM carriers, such as AT&T or T-Mobile USA (the latter only at 2G speeds). CDMA use on Verizon and Sprint will not be supported. The news that the unlocked version in t

Apple University: another Steve Jobs legacy

Image
The technology world, and certainly the gadget news world, stood still this week as news spread instantly across the web that Steve Jobs had passed away – and today we learn that his legacy will live on – through education. And not just through the products he literally helped invent, ranging from the personal computer to the iPhone, through a school that’ll include a training program where company executives present and future will learn how to think and act like their former leader. In “a forum to impart that DNA to future generations”, a project will ensure the future of Apple, this effort reportedly lead by former dean of Yale’s Business School, Joel Podolny. According to the L.A. Times, those familiar with the project say that Jobs himself recruited Podolny for this project, and that there’s been a plan in place for this project for some time. When asked about the project by the Times, analyst Tim Bajarin noted the following: “One of the things that Steve Jobs understood very

AT&T iPhone 4S limits at one per person

Image
Reports today suggest that the iPhone 4S sales in the USA, or at least at AT&T stores, will be limited to one per person, with no differentiation made between normal sales and existing customer upgrades. In what is said to be an iPhone 4S training document sent out in PDF form to workers, AT&T has made clear that regardless of the purchases of said device being New, Upgrade, or No Commitment, “One device per person” is the limit. All said and done, this is half of what we could buy for the iPhone 4 launch. Not fair, what if I want to buy one for my rabbit?! Looks like you’ll have to bring your grandma along for the ride this time if you’re going to get 2 iPhone 4S units on launch day, and if she’s not available, good luck, because we’re buying ours for ourselves! Along with the document picked up exclusively by ModMyi, we can see all the prices of every single iPhone device about to be offered by AT&T, including the iPhone 3GS for free, an exclusive to AT&T if we’re t

Running a business made easier with online fax and other technologies!

Image
When you start your own business you are often have limited space and you need to watch your spending habits closely, the following devices give you the means necessary to manage your business effectively whilst saving space and money! The All-in-One-Printer is a device that provides you with the capabilities to fax, scan, copy and print.  These printers are normally rather large and can take up a fair amount of space, but for all their functionality it is a small sacrifice.  When you looking for a multifunction printer ensure that you get one with wireless networking capabilities so that you are not limited on where you can position the device.  Ensure that the printer has a document feeder, as this will be a great time saver when you have multiple pages to print, scan, copy or fax.  Printers which cost under $100 are known to break easily and waste ink. Should you have a lower budget, rather opt for an all-in-one printer which does not have faxing capabilities and use some of the
