Aamir's 'Dhobi Ghat' to be screened without break

Image
Aamir Khan's production and his wife Kiran Rao’s directorial debut 'Dhobi Ghat' will be one-of-its kind movie which will be released without any slot for intermission. According to reports, the producer-actor personally visited the owners and managers of the multiplex chains and requested to them to screen the 95-minute long movie without interval. It is said that Aamir has even got them signed in writing that there would be no break in the screenings of 'Dhobi Ghat'. Also, he has personally secured a similar never-before no-interval clause from theatres across India. Sources say that apparently the implementation of the no-intermission clause for 'Dhobi Ghat' will be closely monitored across the country. Errant theatres sneaking in snacks space into the movie would be guilty of a breach of contract.

Will Anil Kapoor do a romantic film next?

Image
If one looks at the next three assignments of Anil Kapoor, they are all action entertainers, namely 'Tezz', 'Mission Impossible 4' and 'Race 2'. For an actor who started off with romantic films three decades back, did a slew of masala films in the interim and moved to comedy in the last few years, one wonders if his heart pines to do a mature out and out romantic film? "Well, there are quite a few romantic scripts that have been offered to me. However due to the kind of hectic schedule that I have been having, I haven't had the time to hear those out. Now that 'No Problem' has released, I can catch a breather and go through these narrations", affirms Kapoor. While one waits to see if a real good romantic script comes the way of Anil Kapoor, it is obvious that he is looking at getting back to acting big time after a rather long break that he took prior to 'No Problem' due to his involvement with 'Aisha' as

Jr. Bachchan isn't sulking away

Image
Ok, so Abhishek Bachchan had a disastrous 2010 with 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' taking the top honours and 'Raavan' following that as well. However, it seems like the Junior Bachchan isn't quite crying out loud. After all he has an eventful 2011 lined up ahead with, believe it or not, as many as four films expected to hit the screens. Says an industry follower, "That's right; Abhishek isn't really sulking away in a corner and is actually neck deep down into multiple assignments. His 'Game' comes in March, 'Dum Maro Dum' in April, 'Bol Bachchan' around Diwali and then perhaps 'Players' as well before end of year." This is not all. Even other top film makers are continuing to persist with Abhishek Bachchan, what with even Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Varma depending upon the actor to deliver the goods for an assignment each. "That's right", continues the observer, "KJo and Ramu may be

Hrithik Roshan's wax statue unveiled at Madame Tussauds

Image
Its Dhoom time for India's hottest star Hrithik Roshan. Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan today came face-to-face with his wax figure at Madame Tussauds in London. On meeting his double for the first time, Hrithik Roshan commented, "I can't believe I'm here in Madame Tussauds unveiling a wax figure of myself. It's incredible just how detailed the figure is - they've really captured my look. I'm truly honoured to be included and hope my fans will like seeing the figure". What many don't know is the fact that Hrithik is the youngest male actor from India to be honoured by Madame Tussauds. Roshan was completely involved in the creation of the figure - attending two sittings in Mumbai and London where the sculptors captured a catalogue of reference photographs and hundreds of precise measurements. Hrithik also donated the red shirt and dark blue jeans his figure is wearing. The figure took four months to make at a cost of £150,000

"I don't think Dhobi Ghat will appeal to traditional Indian audiences" - Aamir

Image
I was a witness to a small but a very substantial role of Aamir Khan in Kiran Rao's Dhobi Ghat on a Monday evening at YRF studios in the company of the actor and his fellow colleagues from the film fraternity. That's off screen. When Aamir Khan is on screen, the movie comes alive; when he isn't, it feels laboured and ludicrous. It is like one of those flabby novels with one terrific character, where you find yourself skipping pages in the hunt for his next appearance. Aamir is a superstar in his own right, without losing his sanity of course. I'd perfectly describe him as a 'valiant defender of the film'. In the final part of the two part exclusive, Aamir Khan gets into a serious conversation with UK's Harrow Observer columnist about some wrong decisions he took for Peepli [LIVE] , his disappointment with the widespread piracy, his take on the overseas audiences of Dhobi Ghat , the need for casting directors and auditions in our film industry

PAPPU has done it once again, but to everybody's surprise and anger this time not alone. He ran away from his village with the other 4 of his neighboring fellow friends. As a result Chhotulal, Pappu's father has to bear the repercussions from the parents of other kids. In this expedition of Pappu and his friends, the only one who was left behind was Kuhu. The reason was quite clear to everybody as Kuhu was blind by birth. A runaway boy - this was not the first time for an eight-year-old Pappu. He has done it many times earlier; and always he came back or sent back by the police with a warning. Chhotulal was warned by his neighbors and others to keep his boy tied up in the house. They had a fear that Pappu might influence their kids, and today that fear came alive. Pappu ran away with 4 kids of the village. It was that day when Pappu came to see his friend Kuhu. Kuhu was very happy to find her sole friend home but it was

Veteran actor A.K. Hangal ill and in an impoverished state

Image
Veteran actor A.K. Hangal, remembered for some really memorable character roles in Hindi cinema of yore, is in bad shape. The actor, who is 95 years old, is apparently seriously ill, very weak and has to even deal memory that's fading with each passing day. What's more, he and his son Vijay are also in desperate need for financial help as they are grappling with the actor's rising medical expenses. In spite of being a well-known name in the Hindi film industry, it's sad that very few people from the film fraternity (such as Asha Parekh and Vipul Shah etc.) came to offer their help to A.K. Hangal. We at ApnaDesi wish him a speedy recovery.

Case filed against Priyanka Chopra's tenant

Image
Bollywood may be a star studded place but the celebrities aren't far from trouble, the latest being Priyanka Chopra. The pretty damsel is in the limelight again but this time, its not for her film. It is heard that Rakesh Kapoor, a tenant in Priyanka's flat at Oberoi Sky Gardens house in Andheri, has not just refused to vacate it but has also resorted to forging certain documents pertinent to the renting and sale of the house. As for details, it is learnt that Kapoor who has been staying there for the last couple of years, had the agreement terminating on December 31. It was only after receiving a notice from the actor to vacate, did Kapoor furnish documents that stated that Priyanka is bound to extend the agreement with him at any cost. The documents also stated that in case if she intends to sell her flat in future, the first preference should be given to Kapoor and the offer could be extended to someone else only if he refuses to buy. Madhur denies receiving call from Aamir or Ronnie to push release of DTBHJ

Image
Yesterday a tabloid carried a story saying that Madhur Bhandarkar had pushed ahead the release of his film Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji from January 26 to January 28 at the insistence of Aamir Khan and UTV who asked him to do so. However, the National Award winning filmmaker denies the story as completely baseless and is himself baffled as to how such a story was put up without any verification. Says Madhur, "Yes it is true that we had decided to prepone the release Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji to January 26 since it's a National holiday. However, there have been some delays with respect to the Censor certification of the film and hence we decided to stick to our original release date which is January 28. I wish to clarify that I have not received any call from either Aamir Khan or Ronnie Screwvala (UTV) asking me to push the film ahead. It's a decision taken entirely by me and my team. Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji is now releasing worldwide on January 28 and that

Hrithik - Priyanka to get 'passionate' in Agneepath

Image
You've never seen them like this before. Unprecedented sparks are going to fly between 'passionate' Priyanka Chopra and 'intense' Hrithik Roshan in Agneepath . Says a source, "Hrithik and Priyanka don't believe in half-measures. If they've to convey intense feelings and passion they will go the whole hog in Agneepath . If in Krissh they romanced innocently keeping the kids in mind, their togetherness in Agneepath will be for Adults only." The camaraderie between Hrithik and Priyanka is so palpable that Karan Johar gets a sense of deja vu. As a child, on his father Yash Johar's sets of Agneepath in 1990, Amitabh Bachchan and Madhavi shared the same easygoing bum-chum bantering and witty vibes as Priyanka and Hrithik. Says a source, "Karan was just a teenager when his father had produced the original Agneepath . He still remembers the fantastic rapport between Mr. Bachchan and Madhavi. That relationship, Karan an

No change in Ashtiani case, says Iranian judiciary

The Iranian judiciary Monday said there have been no changes in the case of Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani and denied that her death sentence was suspended, official news agency IRNA reported. In a letter from parliament's human rights committee head Zohreh Elahian to Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, reported earlier Monday by ISNA news agency, she said that because of a plea by Ashtiani's two children, the death sentence had been suspended. Prosecutor general Gholam-Hossein Mohsen-Ejehi, however, denied Elahian's claims and said there have been no changes in the case of Ashtiani who is jailed in Tabriz, the capital of Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran . Malek Ejdar-Sharifi, the head of the judiciary office of Azerbaijan , also said the lawmaker's claim was false. There were doubts from the beginning about why the announcement came from a parliamentary deputy and not the judiciary, and why the letter was not written by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
