Apple is reportedly readying a sub-$1,000 iMac, primarily targeted at education and volume-purchase customers, for release later in August. The new model will have a 21.5-inch display like the current entry-level iMac, 9 to 5 Mac‘s sources tell them, but pair that with a cheaper, dual-core Intel 3.1GHz processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory and a 250GB hard-drive. Graphics will supposedly be courtesy of AMD’s Radeon HD 6750M GPU with 256MB of its own, dedicated memory. Pricing isn’t confirmed, but with the existing range starting at $1,199, sneaking the education version in at under $1,000 is likely; Apple’s last attempt at an education-focused iMac, back in mid-2006, came in at $899. Unlike other trumpeted Apple announcements, the word is that Apple will be quietly unveiling the new iMac in a silent launch currently pegged for Tuesday, August 16. In an effort to continue their reign of hacking news supremacy, both LulzSec and Anonymous have claimed responsibility for a 10 gigabyte file containing social security numbers, credit card details, and vast amounts of police files including emails and confidentially sent tips on crimes. This information comes from more than 70 so-called “small-town” law enforcement agencies. Both hacking groups say they want to show solidarity with with Topiary and the Anonymous PayPal LOIC defendants as well as others – Topiary being the supposed name of one Jake Davis, a teen suspected of working with LulzSec to illegally hack several institutions. This team of hackers, Anonymous and LulzSec, working under the name AntiSec, aka Anti-Security, released this file containing aproximately 100,000 emails from officers in states such as Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Kansas amongst other files. It appears quite obvious that the following photos are of the newest variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II, this time in what’s called the Samsung Hercules. This device will, if proven to confirm specs rumored thus far, be T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ 42Mbps device and will have an 8 megapixel camera on the back, a lovely silver (metal?) single-piece battery cover, rounded corners, and what appears to be a bit of a curved glass front. The folks at Archos have delivered their newest iteration of the Arnova 8 G2 tablet to the FCC, showing off both internal views and accessories that will be included with the tablet as it reaches store shelves in the near future. Today workers from Washington D.C. to Massachusetts went on strike one day earlier than originally planned as a new contract failed between Verizon and phone repair technicians, customer service representatives and cable installers. This new contract included health care coverage, pensions and work rules was stalled upon Verizon demanding 100+ concessions from workers. The Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) went on strike today and say they will continue until an agreement is met. Verizon noted today that the that the strike will not affect Verizon Wireless customers, instead noting that because it involves call center workers and field technicians, it could affect customers with Internet service, land line phones, and Verizon’s FiOS television. A fellow by the name of Sanford Wallace, otherwise known as one of the “Spam Kings”, has been charged with 11 federal criminal counts, these counts related to 27 MILLION unsolicited SPAM messages sent via Facebook servers. FBI officials note that Wallace received “substantial revenue” for this so-called “scheme” in which 500,000 Facebook users accounts were compromised. As of August 7th, 2011, Wallace has turned himself into authorities, has pled not guilty, and is free on a $100,000 bond while he faces more than 40 years in prison for his alleged crimes. The Aarakshan team was in for a shock on Wednesday evening when they were informed that the Mayawati government has withdrawn the permission granted to them for a grand show to promote their film in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The state administration had earlier formally granted the necessary permission for the event which was planned almost a month ago. The reasons given by the state administration for the denial of permission was 'Apprehension of breach of peace'. Post her stunning performance in Tanu Weds Manu, Kangna Ranaut has been creating waves in Bollywood. We have now learnt that the actress is all set to feature in a rom-com titled Kris And Suri. Mithun Chakraborty has appealed to Supreme Court in order to save his luxury resort in the state of Tamil Nadu which seems to be in grave danger of being demolished. A fresh order from Madras High Court has ordered for the demolition of his Luxury Resort as the resort reportedly falls in an important elephant corridor in Tamil Nadu that connects the Eastern Ghats with the Western Ghats. The resort is one of the many falling in the patch of land that elephant herds use to cross from one mountain to another. The forest department had told the Madras HC that the hotels were operating in violation of the Tamil Nadu Preservation of Private Forests Act as the guest house owners had indulged in eco-destruction in the name of eco-tourism. The Madras HC had ordered that the land falling in the corridor be taken over by the forest department and the resorts be demolished. We all know that the song 'Character Dheela' (from the film Ready) has proved to be a chartbuster of the year. Needless to say, everybody associated with this song is on cloud nine…except for one person who goes by the name of Mohammed Azam, a Turkish songwriter. For the uninitiated, Azam is the same guy who had filed a case against Pritam, accusing him of allegedly plagiarizing his lyrics for the said song. But, the Bombay High Court dismissed his petition, reasoning that Pritam is not a lyricist, something that triggered Azam to threaten Pritam stating that he would go to the press and malign his image. Pritam got highly upset with this and has decided to take legal action against Azam. Pritam has now filed a criminal complaint with the police against the Azam.

All is now well between Minissha Lamba and her director Sagar Ballary. The man whom they would be looking at thanking most? Tusshar Kapoor . Though there have been a series of verbal bouts between Minissha and Sagar post the release of Bheja Fry 2 and during the current promotional campaign of Hum Tum Shabana, it can well be expected to be a thing of the past since Tusshar has facilitated a patch up between the two. Kabeer Kaushik's film Maximum has been much talked about ever since it was announced. With Tabu playing the leading lady in the film all eyes were turned towards the progress of the film. The said reason behind Tabu walking out is said that she felt that she would look older to Sonu Sood, who plays her husband. After working with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, Nikhil Advani is all set to unveil his new film DELHI SAFARI to moviegoers across the globe. It's an animation film that has been converted into 3D. Though the film has taken a long time to make, it comes at a time when animation combined with 3D is luring audiences in big hordes. In fact, that's one of the reasons Nikhil has decided to dub the film in English language. Nikhil has already roped in several international artists to dub for the characters in the film. These include Jason Alexander, Cary Elwes, Brad Garrett, Christopher Lloyd, Jane Lynch and Vanessa Williams. DON 2 is amongst the most awaited films of 2011. Right from the first look [pics] that producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar revealed, to the first poster [eye-catching], to the first promo of the film [appreciated unanimously], the film has been making the right noise. A strong rumor doing the rounds since quite some time is that DON 2 features Hrithik Roshan in the negative lead. The makers have kept his character under wraps, since they want the audiences to feel shocked when they watch SRK and Hrithik battle on the big screen. In fact, Hrithik's pics were splashed all over when he visited Berlin, while the shoot of DON 2 was in progress. But Farhan Akhtar denies it outright. "Hrithik visited Berlin as a friend. Last week was not so pleasant for actor Vivek Oberoi. The actor and his father Suresh Oberoi received a non-bailable warrant from a metropolitan magistrate court with regard to a bounced cheque worth Rs. 3 crore. Apart from the duo, four members from board of directors and a manager from Oberoi Mutimedia Ltd had also been accused for the same. The complaint had been filed by Jawaharlal Agicha who acquainted with Suresh Oberoi's relative and company's MD Anand Oberoi and its manager Anil Lalwani. Agicha informed that he received only Rs 50,000 in January 2010 via cheque, while another cheque of Rs. 3 crore meant for realisation on October 19, 2010, bounced. In response to the accusation levied on him and his family, Vivek has retaliated by filing a Rs. 25 crore defamation case against the concerned person. Rajneesh Duggal, the model turned actor who made his debut with Vikram Bhatt's 1920 and also features in Bhatt's production Phhir, has now been signed on for Vikram's next titled Dangerous Ishq. The film Dangerous Ishq, which has been much talked about as being the comeback vehicle for Karisma Kapoor, will see Duggal in the lead role romancing the actress. The film's story apparently, spans across four generations and will see Karisma in multiple looks, while Rajneesh plays her love interest in all the four eras. Dangerous Ishq goes on the floors in September this year.

A while ago we had informed you about Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'souza coming together for a film to be produced by Kumar Taurani of Tips. The film has now been titled Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya. The film is a romantic comedy and is directed by Mandeep Kumar (who has directed the Punjabi film Jihne Mera Dil Luteya for Tips). Besides Riteish and Genelia, the film also stars Om Puri, Tinnu Anand and Smita Jaykar. Shooting of the film commenced earlier this week.

Khap , the movie on honour killings in Haryana directed by Ajai Sinha, starring Om Puri, Mohnish Bahl, Govind Namdev and Uvika Chaudhary was released across the country on Friday, except in Khap land - Haryana. The cinema owners in Haryana decided to play it safe by not screening the movie in the entire state as they did not want to provoke Khap Panchayats who were against its screening. Posters of the film were also removed from cinema halls. Khap highlights the role of the Khap Mahapanchayats in honour killings in Haryana. The film ran into trouble on Friday after many exhibitors in Haryana refused to screen the film fearing violence from Jat supporters. . Many Jat leaders of the state had threatened to protest against the screening of the film, claiming it was anti-khap and showed the traditional panchayats in poor light. The maverick filmmaker has filed a caveat in the court to a avoid stay on the judgment on the release of his film. It is a caveat against an unknown person. The film starring Mahie Gill, Deepak Dobriyal and Ajay Gehi, is based on the life of Kannada actress Maria Susairaj who was accused of allegedly murdering Neeraj Grover along with her lover Emile Jerome Mathew. After the super success of X-Men: First Class, Fox Star Studios is all set to release another biggie next week, one of the most anticipated Hollywood films of this year, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes .
