Too Soon? Did Former ABC Chief McPherson Cancel Shows Too Early?

My friend Aaron Barnhart posted some thoughts on the resignation of ABC programming honcho Steve McPherson. Unlike some, Barnhart thinks McPherson had a solid run at ABC and notes some of successes. In Aaron’s opinion, McPherson’s fundamental flaw was he canceled too many series before they had a chance to root.

HGTV Renews ‘Dear Genevieve‘

HGTV Extends Production of Dear Genevieve KNOXVILLE, Tenn. [For Immediate Release--July 28, 2010] HGTV has ordered 26 additional episodes of Dear Genevieve, the popular weekly HGTV series featuring designer Genevieve Gorder. via press release: On Tuesday ABC Delivers Its Best Numbers on the Night in 5 Weeks and is Up Over the Year-Ago Night for the 8th Time in 9 Weeks in Viewers and Young Adults ABC’s 2-Hour Repeat “Wipeout” Tops NBC’s All-Original 8-10pm Lineup by 1.0 Million Viewers and by 53% in Adults 18-49 “Wipeout” Scores its 2nd-Best Repeat Numbers Ever in Viewers and Young Adults At 10pm, ABC News’ “Primetime: What Would You Do?” Posts the Net’s 2nd-Highest Non-Sports Performance in the Hour of the Summer in Adults 18-49 and 25-54 Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.) ABC’s Tuesday lineup registered the Net’s strongest performance on the night in Total Viewers (6.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.0/6) in 5 weeks – since 6/22/10. ABC took second on the night in the key young adult demo, topping NBC by 5% (1.9/6) and CBS by 67% (1.2/4). On the other side of the coin was the premiere of NBC’s Breakthrough With Tony Robbins . It averaged a mere 0.8 rating with adults 18-49 and 3.125 million viewers.
