T-Mobile HTC Amaze photographed in HD

Image
If you were hanging around here on the 26th of September, you know good and well that T-Mobile will soon be getting a lovely new 4G capable 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor-having HTC device by the name of HTC Amaze. What we’ve got for you today is several close-up photos of the hardware on that device, all taken by a fellow by the name of Nathan Olsson. Judging by these photos along, this device is going to be one massively awesome little bit of mobile, if I do say so myself. With Qualcomm behind the wheel at dual-core 1.5GHz, you’ve got quite a fabulous little handset on your hands – when you’ve got HTC working the chassis, you’ve got one fantastically high-grade piece of hardware on your hands. Judging by how the HTC Sensation feels to use (I’ve been using it for several weeks, full disclosure,) it’s no doubt that this similarly shaped device will blow the competition away – or at least make people think it’s time to trade the Sensation in for a slightly newer device s

Canon and Invader Zim bring Occupy Wallstreet protests to the public eye

Image
When it comes to protests, there’s always one thing that’ll keep you (and your mob) from succeeding in making the United States aware of your cause – protesting the news corporations. Over the past two (or so) weeks, there’ve been protesters in the streets of New York City in areas on and around Wall Street, this gathering named “Occupy Wallstreet” and called for all the way back in the July issue of Adbusters (an anti-consumerist magazine that I just so happen to have a copy of right here) and encouraged by the hackers at Anonymous soon afterword. These protests have been going on since the 17th of September, 2011, and continue to this day where one of the most important factors has come into play: branding. It was October 1st when the photo you see above was taken by Adrian Kinloch and posted up on Flickr under Creative Commons reserve – the person you see in the photo is being called a 13 year old and has in several cases (see: YouTube) been said to have been brutally ripped from th

Google Maps Helicopter View makes your directions 3D

Image
Google Maps has added a new Helicopter View to the navigation service, allowing users to preview their journey in 3D. Recognizing that many users want a more indicative – or at least entertaining – way of seeing their prospective route than either plain maps or birds-eye satellite imagery, the Helicopter View could even let you do your sightseeing from home instead. The route is automatically followed, though you can pause it by clicking anywhere in the 3D display or on the play/pause button in the bottom corner. While paused, you can drag the map around to explore the surrounding area as usual. Each phase of the directions are highlighted as the route runs through, and you can jump ahead to the trickier sections by clicking them. You’ll need the Google Earth plugin in order for the Helicopter View to work, which isn’t entirely clear from Google’s instructions. To see the 3D button – which shows up next to “driving directions” in the left hand bar – you first have to click the “Earth”

Nokia Ace 4.3-inch Windows Phone rumored

Image
Details purportedly concerning a third Nokia Windows Phone set for release later this month, the Nokia Ace, have leaked, suggesting a 4.3-inch AMOLED device packing HSPA+ connectivity. According to The Nokia Blog‘s source, the Ace will be headed to AT&T in Q1 2012, with an 8-megapixel autofocus camera using Carl Zeiss optics. The rumor fits with information previously passed to SlashGear that Nokia would initially reveal three Windows Phone handsets at Nokia World 2011 in late October, though our source declined to detail the devices. That means it’s impossible to be sure that the third Nokia device – after the Searay Nokia CEO Stephen Elop confirmed earlier in the year, and the Nokia Sabre that Microsoft Canada inadvertently named last week – is this rumored Ace. We can’t help but wish that the leaked specs are authentic, however: the smartphone is said to have a 1,800 mAh battery, a 1.4GHz processor and 16GB of internal storage, along with Mango and that sizable 4.3-inch screen u

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II on sale now

Image
The Samsung Galaxy S II is now on sale at AT&T, offering dual-core 1.2GHz Android performance and an impressive Super AMOLED Plus display for $199.99. As with the European version, the AT&T GSII has an 8-megapixel autofocus camera supporting Full HD video recording, a front-facing camera for video calls, and HSPA+ 4G support. There’s also WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and 16GB of internal memory, with a microSD card slot, microUSB 2.0 connectivity and support for MHL HDMI (with the right adapter) to hook the Galaxy S II up to your HDTV. The 4.3-inch display may run at WVGA 800 x 480 resolution, rather than the qHD or above of other, more recently revealed devices, but Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus technology makes for bright, vivid colors and outdoor-friendly levels of brightness. The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II is available today, priced at $199.99 with a new, two-year agreement including mandatory voice and data. More on the dual-core smartphone in the full SlashGear review.

iPhone 5 specs leaked by Cincinnati Bell

Image
It appears that in addition to the other few leaks from this weekend, the folks at Cincinnati Bell will be on Apple’s naughty list as it seems they’ve leaked a bit of info on the iPhone 5 pre-maturely. What we can see here is that, even though the page was removed an instant after it was discovered to be live, the iPhone 5 32GB does exist, and Cincinnati Bell will be carrying it. On the other hand, a slip of the pre-prep hand of an intern isn’t always the same as a certainty. Is this future device really going to cost $639.99 and have a 4-inch display plus 4G speeds? That’s what the listing says, anyway, more than likely off-contract, that is, nearly $650 of slightly updated specs, that is. An 8 megapixel camera is also attached and a simple “4G data speeds” doesn’t exactly bring this leak in as a lock. Compared to the other leaks we’ve seen today, this one seems downright silly, in fact. That said, we wouldn’t mind seeing such a device this Tuesday, and we’re sure Cincinnati Bell will

iPhone 4S appears in iTunes beta [Update: Pulled]

Image
This weekend the iPhone rumors and leaks are just flowing in, this next one showing some evidence that the iPhone 4S will indeed be popping up next week, this information thanks to Apple itself. In the latest version if iTunes (a beta, at that), references to the iPhone 4S have been found, but were quickly pulled from its developer site after the discovery was made. You’ll see a couple of shots taken from this leak and sent to AppleInsider it appears by the same insider, Ming-Chi Kuo, who tells of a complete lack of iPhone 5 instances in the same line. This leak was inside the ninth build of iTunes 10.5 released Friday and is now squashed, but not before letting us know that this device will be at least CDMA where we expect a GSM mode version (or one dual-mode device) to be released on Tuesday. Other information that’s piling up here, if you’ve been following along, includes an 8 megapixel camera, 512MB of RAM, the same A5 processor that’s in the iPad 2 as well as dual graphics, all of

iPhone 5 appears on RadioShack inventory screen for several carriers

Image
It appears that not one but several new iPhone 5 units will be coming out if a brand new RadioShack inventory list is to be believed. It seems that everyone but T-Mobile will be getting the iPhone 5, each of them for $50 USD. Each of these models appear to have a 32GB version and a 16GB version and will either be completely free or half a Benjamin. Of course these details will be changed before the actual release and/or won’t be accurate at all – screenshots of screens aren’t always to be trusted. There’s a whole lot of iPhone rumors flying around, one of the more interesting bits being the iPhone 5 glass and metal mockup from last week. We’ve seen the iPhone 5 N94 listing in Apple’s inventory and there’s a survey out there showing a gigantic margin of Apple fans planning on owning the iPhone 5 in the future. If you want every single bit of iPhone 5 info we’ve got thus far, head to the [iPhone 5 portal] or straight to our iPhone 5 Details Roundup [Mid-Sept 2011, pre-release]. And of co

HP reveals Material & construction innovation Roadmap for future notebooks

Image
While on tour of the Houston Texas campus of HP, we were presented with a lovely little map of what they planned on adding to the roster for their EliteBook line in the near future. This map was shown on what’s called HP’s Tour of Elite, and we’ve been releasing bits and pieces of it all week long. What you’ll see here is a short set of items already existing in HP’s EliteBook line as well as some radical futuristic techniques and materials as well. Look like the oddness to you? On the left of the chart you see above (or in the enlarged version in the gallery below) you’ll see some already in-effect titles, those being Radial aluminum for casing, deep draw stamping, CNC hinges for utter accuracy, double shot display bezel and glass touchpad for strength. Added to this list inside 2012 are two major factors you’ve seen popping up in the mobile world over the past year, those being a completely aluminum unibody construction and Gorilla Glass. HP TouchSmart Elite 7320 All-in-One PC hands-on with HP’s Randall Martin

Image
As you may well know, this past week we were invited by HP to their first ever Making of Elite Tour at their Houston Texas campus. What we’ve seen so far are a few bits of completed hardware and some concepts, what the future holds is testing facilities and busting up of computers galore. What we’ve got here is a look at a bit of hardware that’s available for sale right this moment, one that I wont spend just one whole heck of a lot of time explaining as our host does the job fine and well, just know this: if you’re looking to load Windows 8, this might be your ticket to sweetness. This is the HP TouchSmart Elite 7320 All-in-One PC, a Windows 7 device that you’ll more than likely want to upgrade to Windows 8 when the time comes. Why? Because it’s got a 21.5-inch diagonal widescreen 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution display with full multi-touch capabilities. LED backlighting, wide viewing angles at 160 degrees vertical and 170 degrees horizontal, and the ability to tilt the whole thing on i

Can Little Companies Still Get Ahead?

Image
When we think about the state of home entertainment today, we typically talk about companies like Apple, Microsoft, Netflix, Sony, and others. After all, they’re the firms that are performing so well in the space right now, and they’re the companies that, at least for the time being, will continue to set the benchmark by which all others are judged. But all that talk of big companies seems to leave out smaller firms that have some unique ideas but don’t seem to be able to get ahead. [Image credit: Dark Dwarf] Take, for example, Boxee. That company is by no means a household name, but it has attracted a cult-like following in tech circles. The only trouble is, when it tried to make a mark in the set-top box market, it failed to do so. And now, if one asks the average consumer if they’ve ever tried out a Boxee Box, most will say they’ve never even heard of it. Of course, some might say that Boxee, and so many other small companies’ troubles in the home-entertainment space have to do with

Samsung Focus Hands-on and Unboxing with Windows Phone 7.5 Mango [Video]

Image
Welcome to the next generation of Windows Phone 7 devices with Mango – you’re looking straight at it through a Samsung Focus lens, complete with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a .39-inch thin chassis, and 4.1 ounces of weightlessness. Inside you’ll find a single core 1GHz, QSD8250, Qualcomm processor, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, and the ability to shoot some fancy photos with your 5 megapixel camera on the back. What we’ve got here is an everyman’s introductory phone for Mango made simple for each and every customer to get an experience that’s both full and controlled right out of the box. Those of you that’ve seen this device before, you’ll have to wait until the review to see Mango in its entirety. For now we’re just giving this device another glimpse. As you’ll see in the video, this device feels extremely light and thin, certainly compared to the rest of the Windows Phone 7 devices we’ve seen released to the market thus far. You’ve got a 1500 mAh battery under the hood so you’ll more

iCloud welcome email sent out early to some users

Image
Apple has reportedly begun distributing a welcome email for its iCloud service to some users ahead of the company’s major event next Tuesday, when it’s expected to unveil the iPhone 5, iOS 5, and the iCloud. It’s not clear why certain individuals got this invitation early, but the broken link contained in the email suggests that it may have been accidentally sent. The welcome message begins by letting users know that their email will become their Apple ID for accessing their iCloud account and for setting up the iCloud on their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and/or PC. The message then provides a link to instructions, but the page at the end of that link doesn’t appear to be ready. The email then continues to reiterate come of the iCloud’s capabilities, which includes being able to snap a photo on your iPhone and then seeing it automatically on your iPad. You can also start a Pages document on your iPhone and then finish it from your iPad. “With iCloud, it just works.”

Microsoft accidentally flagged Chrome as malware

Image
Earlier today, Microsoft’s Security Essentials mistakenly flagged Google Chrome as malware and began blocking the program. In many instances Chrome was entirely removed from users’ computers. Apparently, Chrome was being incorrectly identified as a member of the Zeus malware family, but Microsoft has since released an update to fix the issue. Complaints started early this morning in Google’s help forums, where users became frustrated after discovering that their Chrome browser had been wiped from their PCs. Some users recounted that upon starting up their PCs, they received a Windows Security warning to remove a security problem. After clicking the Remove button and restarting the PC, they found that Chrome had gotten deleted and could not be re-installed. Microsoft has since apologized for the mistake and issued a statement along with updated signatures that should fix the problem. Google has also posted instructions on fixing the issue, telling users to first ensure that Chrome is in
