International Hollywood director Rob Cohen thinks that the graceful, classic and radiant Bollywood actress, Deepika Padukone, is the new face of Indian cinema being touted as the next big thing as per the overseas audiences feedback. The Indian super model turned actress has carved a niche for herself not only within Indian cinema, but is also creating a sensation internationally. According to Rob Cohen, whose credit includes The Witches of Eastwick and The Fast and the Furious, "Deepika Padukone is gorgeous and is more beautiful than Angelina Jolie." The director has also indicated his interest in casting Deepika for his next film project in Hollywood. Talks are on with both the parties but none of them are ready to comment on the same till the deal gets locked in. Now if that's the case, then Deepika Padukone will be India's newest and the quickest entrant in Hollywood. Deepika's striking beauty and cover model appeal have made her the favourite cover girl for f

Anupam Kher gets a band-baaja welcome in Bhor

It was a moment he won't forget easily. When on Tuesday, Anupam Kher reached Bhor on the outskirts of Mumbai to resume the shooting of Walt Disney Production's Zokkomon, 100 children along with the entire cast and crew of the film, waited to greet Anupam with a full-fledged band-baaja. Anupam was zapped. "Before I had left Bhor, I told the unit of Zokkomon I was going to Mumbai to attend the premiere of Saaransh to celebrate 25 years in cinema. I also taunted the unit, 'You should receive me with a full musical band, no less, when I return.' Little did I expect them to take my words seriously. When I got back on Tuesday they had actually arranged a huge band from Pune to greet me. The minute I came to the location the band started playing." Anupam was moved beyond words. That's not all. What followed made him burst into tears. "All the kids in the film made me put on a party cap, cut a cake and sang congratulatory songs. You've no idea how much I

CID swoops down on Adnan Sami's father in hospital

Image
On Thursday afternoon an impromptu CID raid was conducted on Adnan Sami and his critically-ill father at the Kokilabehn-Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital to ascertain the authenticity of the documents pertaining to Adnan's father's medical treatment in a hospital on foreign soil. This seems to be a further attempt to demoralize the Sami family in the ongoing legal and media-oriented battle between the singer and his wife Sabah. The raid that took place late afternoon had Adnan and his parents stunned. Says Adnan, "We had no idea this was going to be the next salvo from our beloved opponents. I wasn't in the hospital when the CID members swooped down on the ICU section where my Dad is kept. My mother was with my comatose father when they asked for our papers. Our enemies would be saddened to know we had all the relevant papers for my father's treatment in the hospital." Sighs Adnan, "Even the worst enemy shows leniency towards the ill. Not these people, I guess.&q

Kareena to sport Barbie doll look

Image
New Delhi, June 6 (IANS) Kareena Kapoor's look in "Kambakkht Ishq" is being touted as her most glamorous ever, but her make-up artist Mallika Bhat says that apart from looking ultra glam, she will also sport a "Barbie doll-look" in the action thriller. "One of Kareena's looks in the film is inspired by Barbie doll," Bhat told IANS over telephone from Mumbai. "One day, while on the shoot, she came out of her vanity van and was ready for her shot. She was wearing a baby pink tube top with a white skirt and I gave her a creamy baby pink lipstain (colour) for her lips. Her hair was straight - and as soon as I saw her, I told her how much she looked like Barbie doll," she said. In "Kambakkht Ishq", which is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Kareena stars alongside superstar Akshay Kumar who plays a Hollywood stuntman. It also stars Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards. According to Bhat, Kareena

Akshay Kumar to miss IIFA Awards

Mumbai, June 6 (IANS) Forget about performing live, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar won't even be attending the 10th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards night in Macau June 13. The actor has kept aside the month for a family vacation, specially chalked out with his son. "The family vacation was planned well in advance to coincide with Akshay's son Aarav's school holidays. Akshay doesn't like leaving Aarav behind when he is out of the country. At the same time he doesn't want his son to miss school. So the annual holiday was planned well in advance," said a source close to Akshay. "No power on earth, not even IIFA, is going to persuade Akshay to take even a small break from the holiday, let alone break his little boy's heart," the source added. IIFA organisers had in fact suggested that Akshay fly down from wherever he was to Macau, China, for the star-studded event. When Akshay refused to perform, the organisers said he could come dow

Bollywood body boycotts Australia

"We prefer to call it a non-cooperation movement because we feel what is happening in Australia is painful and shameful. The Australian government is just not taking adequate steps to find the culprits. So being the head of FWICE, I planned to launch this movement," Dinesh Chaturvedi told IANS on phone from Mumbai. The issue of racial attacks on Indians came to world attention late last month when a student, Sravan Kumar Theerthala, was left fighting for life after being stabbed with a screwdriver in Melbourne. After that nine more attacks have taken place on Indians in the country. The latest incident occurred Friday. Popular Bollywood films like "Dil Chahta Hai", "Salaam Namaste", "Chak De! India" and "Heyy Baby" were shot in Australia. But Bollywood now wants to take a tough stand and has united in raising its voice against the attacks. Recently, mega star Amitabh Bachchan rejected an honorary doctorate from a Brisbane university, in
