'Crackdown 2' Developer Responds To Criticisms, Talks DLC

Image
The anticipated release of "Crackdown 2" was met with disappointment from fans and critics alike. Despite an improved co-op experience, the rest of the game felt more like an expansion pack than a full-fledged sequel. I spoke with James Cope, producer at Ruffian Games, shortly before the game's release, to get his take on some of the complaints being levied at the game. On Returning To Pacific City One of the issues people have mentioned regarding "Crackdown 2" is the fact that it's set in the same city as the first game and that, despite some visual updates here and there, it feels very much like a retread. Cope mentioned that the decision to return to Pacific City was based on many factors. "We started work on 'Crackdown 2' at the very beginning of 2009," Cope explained. "Ruffian was formed in 2008 and we jumped straight into Crackdown 2 in 2009 and we worked pretty much flat out from that point on until about two weeks ago.&quo

'Transformers: War for Cybertron' DLC Info Leaks

Image
More Transformers games are possible down the road, but downloadable content for "Transformers: War for Cybertron" is possible as well. In fact, someone already wrote up a description about it and posted it to the Xbox Live Marketplace, where it has since been taken down, according to TFormers.com. Luckily, someone saved the text from the listing and it explained what was the copy writer believes will be included if the DLC eventually gets launched legitimately: Become the ultimate weapon and wage war in four new maps – engage in multiplayer combat in HAVOC and FORTRESS or fend off waves of Autobots in DISTRICT, and Decepticons in FORSAKEN, two new Escalation mode maps. Also gain access to 5 characters and their chassis for use in Escalation mode and Multiplayer character creation; SCATTERSHOT, ONSLAUGHT, DEMOLISHOR, SHOCKWAVE and JAZZ are ready for battle. Fight to the end in the war that started it all! Also, there will be no refunds for this DLC. So if you buy it and d

Konami: 'Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D' For 3DS A 'Full Product'

Image
The Naked Sample of " Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D " was one of the biggest buzz items among Nintendo's3DS announcements at E3. Kojima Productions clouded the nature of the project a bit, however, by using the term "sample." Now, Konami has countered by using a meatier description that will probably just stir the speculation pot some more. "Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D" is in fact "a full product," a Konami representative told Eurogamer. That sounds far more assertive that the terminology being emphasized from Kojima's wing of the development process. "We can't say one way or the other whether or not something like that will come out on the 3DS," Kojima Productions assistant producer Sean Eyestone said on the Kojima Productions Podcast. "At this point we can't say anything. But what we did show at E3 was a sample of what we can do with the 3DS." As far as the titles, subtitles and sample titles go,

'Team Fortress 2' Getting Engineer Update Next

Image
Of all the classes in " Team Fortress 2 ," the Engineer is the one that requires the least amount of twitch-based skill. Instead, playing the class successfully requires solid tactics and teamwork, as placing a turret in the appropriate spot can have the same effect as an entire squad of soldiers. Because of this, Engineer is usually my go-to class, and it pleases me greatly that Valve has placed the engineer next in their update queue. The Engineer class update is just starting to be revealed, but the first weapon coming is the Frontier Justice. The shotgun packs a smaller clip and doesn't dole out random critical attacks, but it does get bonus crits based on the number of kills or assists the Engineer's sentry gun nabs before being destroyed. So basically it's a great way to encourage Engineers to play a well-rounded, offensive and defensive game. In addition to the new shotty, crafting addicts now have a chance to create The Golden Wrench. Basically Valve is al

Samsung SNE-60 ereader to make expensive French debut

Image
Samsung’s SNE-60 ereader continues to pop up across Europe, with itsrecent UK preorder debut followed by a pricey French launch. According to Actualitte, French retailer Carrefour will be offering the E-60 at its 228 stores across the country, though the price will make your eyes water: €329 ($411). That’s more than double what the Kindle and nook are currently selling for, even though Samsung have partnered with Barnes & Noble to access the same database of ebooks that are available on the nook. Retailer Carrefour aren’t making any comment on provision for European readers as yet. As for the SNE-60 itself, that has a 6-inch E Ink display that can be annotated using a special stylus. It also gets both WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0, which can apparently be used for exchanging content between units, while a slide-down control panel hides the main buttons. Still no word on an official US launch, but Samsung initially said the SNE-60 would retail at around $399.

Samsung Q530, Q430, and Q330 Notebooks Available This Month in the UK

Image
The Samsung Q line-up of notebooks hasn’t been a big secret, but as of today we can finally say that the series has a somewhat firm release date when it comes to those in the United Kingdom who might be interested. Samsung also announced that the Q530, Q430, and Q330 will be heading to other international markets as well. At the top of the line, the Q530 is by far the most appealing of the set. As Samsung puts it, the Q series of notebooks is designed to put as much power into a pretty package as they can get. We can’t say for sure if they’re trying to be budget conscious, either, but with the features herein, we’d have to guess that these won’t go as cheap as some would like. The Q530, resting as the king of the Q series king of the hill, features a 15.6-inch LED backlit screen, with a 16:9 aspect ratio. You get to choose from Intel’s Core i5 or i3 processors. You also get GeForce GT330M 1GB DDR3 GPU. But what makes it better are the little things. For example, you get built-in WiFi,

Samsung Galaxy S2 i9200 tipped: 2GHz, 720p Super AMOLED display and more

Image
It’s a slow news day, so lets dabble our feet in the murky rumor waters for a while and take a look at what we’re told is the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9200 . The tipped successor to the Galaxy S, and supposedly due in early 2011, according to the talk circulating Russian forum itrans the Galaxy S2 is said to have a whopping 4.3-inch 1,280 x 720 Super AMOLED display with around 340 pixels per inch, certainly intruding into Apple’s Retina Display realm. Meanwhile there’s also supposedly a 2GHz CPU paired with 1GB of RAM and a 4GB ROM, together with 32GB of flash storage and a microSD card slot. The camera is said to be 8-megapixels capable of not just 720p but 1080p Full HD video recording, and the OS to be Android “Gingerbread” which we’ve heard is expected to drop in Q4 this year. Connectivity includes WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, while there’s also A-GPS, an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and ambient light sensors. Now, we’re obviously in skeptic-mode at what’s undoubtedly a bulgin

Lenovo chairman: Steve Jobs “doesn’t care about China”

Image
Lenovo chairman Liu Chuanzhi has described Steve Jobs as “a big pearl”, and said that his company is “lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble.” Apple products have the same halo effect in the Chinese market as elsewhere, but limited official availability has so-far minimized the impact smartphones like the iPhone 4 have had on rival devices. That limitation has given Lenovo a pass on their limited app selection, Chuanzhi said. “The iPhone has more than 100,000 content providers, and we have no more than 1,000″ he pointed out, though went on to counter that “our Chinese customers feel our applications are very convenient to use.” Apple, meanwhile, says it should have 25 retail outlets in China by the end of 2010. As for the pearl reference, Chaunzhi says Apple CEO Steve Jobs is the “exception” to his view on how good managers perform: taking the role of a

Gravity Phone concept looks cool and bulky

Image
Design concepts are interesting and often give us a glimpse into the future of devices of all types. A new phone design concept has turned up that is called the Gravity Phone . The Gravity Phone concept is a large looking handset with a HD resolution screen. It looks normal enough from the front with a big glossy screen and a couple of protruding angular shapes on the top and bottom. Flip the phone over and those angular shapes you see from the front take on a new design. The backside of the phone looks like an “X” with a candy bar style phone laid over the top of an iPhone. The designer says the screen would be a 1080p unit and HDMI would be supported. I’m not sure how practical a design like this would be in the pocket.

ASUS boost PC speed by 37%, cut energy by 80% with Dual Intelligent Processors

Image
ASUS has unveiled its latest motherboard innovation, Dual Intelligent Processors , which the company claims will instantly make systems 37-percent faster and make 80-percent energy savings. Found on the ASUS P7P55D-E Deluxe ‘board, among others in the company’s range, the key change is the addition of a “TurboV Processing Unit” (TPU) and an “Energy Processing Unit” (EPU); these take on system-intensive processing and real-time power management, respectively. The TPU system is basically a way of automatically optimising the PC without necessarily having the skills to do so manually; experienced system builders could probably eke out the same performance improvements (or better) but for mainstream consumers it might stretch a little extra grunt out of their CPU. ASUS tested it with a 2.9GHz Core i3-530 processor: without the TPU switched on the CPU scored 8620 in 3DMark Vantage, while with it active it managed 11,782. As for the EPU, that basically tracks usage and throttles back the s

HTC Hero and EVO 4G source kernel goes public

Image
HTC has publicly released the source code for the Android 2.1 firmware build of their Hero smartphone, opening the door to a new batch of hacks and modifications. Available through the HTC Developer site, the firmware is also accompanied by the kernel for the HTC EVO 4G . Both handsets are now running Android 2.1 with the Sense UI. If you’re wanting Android 2.1 on your Hero, meanwhile, as it’s still running the original 1.5 build, an OTA update has been going out recently; make sure your phone is charged, powered on and preferably connected via WiFi and you should be offered the update.

ColorWare Add the New Xbox 360 to Their List

Image
ColorWare is on a roll. Having just announced in the last few weeks that they’ve stepped up their game to include HDTVs, and even Segways, it looks like they’re getting their hands on some new gadgets, too. And this time around, if you’re not a fan of remarkably shiny black pieces of technology, then you can go ahead and choose from any color you want, and get it colored and customized specifically for you. As usual, ColorWare is giving customers the ability to choose how they get their new Microsoft Xbox 360 colored. They can either choose to order the system, with additional (also customizable) controllers, or just send their own console in. Both options will see your new colored item shipped in about three weeks, so it really just depends on what’s more comfortable for you. As for pricing, what’s also pretty standard comes into play here, too. For you to choose your own model to have sent to you from the company, it will cost you $500 to get your ‘box colored. And if you choose to

Brite-View CinemaGo BV-5005HD Mini CG HD Media Player Announced, Pre-Order Now

Image
It’s been almost a full year since we reported on Brite-View ’s CinemaTube media player, and that means it’s just about perfect timing to get an upgraded, new model, right? Well lucky you, because Brite-View agrees with that sentiment. They’ve just pulled the cover off their CinemaGo BV-5005HD Mini CG HD media player — and yes, that may be the longest title for a gadget we’ve seen in awhile. The CinemaGo is, for all intents and purposes, just a re-imagining of the CinemaTube of last year. You still get the eSATA interface, USB 2.0, built-in WiFi, and a BitTorrent manager. On top of all that, you also get access to MUZEE Internet radio channels as well. Additionally, the box is also able to handle 1080p output, and it’s perfectly capable of supporting formats like MOV, WMV, and MKV, amongst a whole plethora of others. As for storage, you can choose to either put media onto the box thanks to an attached hard drive, or if you’re into that whole futuristic wireless thing, you can utilize y

Multifunction Devices and Teens

Image
Multitasking is a huge concept for devices today. The idea of a single use, single feature device is becoming increasingly rare. Today, the lines are really blurring in technology – between mobile and desktop devices, between phones and media players, between TVs and computers. Even alarm clocks have WiFi built in. And especially among teenagers, the idea of multipurpose, connected devices is becoming more and more important. For teenagers, one of the most important concept of our lives is being connected to each other – we like being in touch with all our social circles, be it for friends around the corner from school to friends across the globe. Media, entertainment, and pictures are also huge features – consider the huge importance of music, movies, video games, and Facebook albums in today’s world. And in portable devices especially it’s become more and more critical to have these features to ensure that you appeal to teens. A few years ago, the idea of having a Zune with a web br

Apple TV refresh rumors reignite: new UI designers hard at work?

Image
Rumors about Apple’s plans for Apple TV have reignited, with the NYTimes stepping into the fray with the tidbit that the Cupertino company has apparently recently hired “several user interface and graphics designers who have a background in broadcast design for television.” Meanwhile a second source – recently employed by Apple and working with their television group – claims the work is being done in a different design group within the company, though failed to indicate which one. That could fit in with speculation earlier in the year that Apple is preparing an iOS-based Apple TV replacement. Those rumors tipped a compact, iPhone 4 sized box that would have little more than power and HDMI connectivity, running the same operating system as found on Apple’s iPhone and iPad, and connecting via WiFi. Such a device would already have a head start running apps like NetFlix, ABC TV, Hulu and others. Apple spokespeople have declined to comment on the report, and it’s unclear exactly how m

Apple: iPhone 4 signal fix coming to address “totally wrong” bars

Image
Apple has pushed out what it’s calling an open letter to iPhone 4 users, in which they claim that the smartphone’s signal reception issue is down to the fact that “the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong.” Instead of incorrect holding causing signal loss, Apple says that in fact the strong signal reports are what are incorrect, and the subsequent drop in apparent strength is, in fact, the real level. ”[Users] big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place” they explain. Full Apple iPhone 4 reception letter after the cut “Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars. Users observing a drop of several bars when th

iPad gets pressure-sensitive drawing

Image
Stylus producer Ten One Design – best known for their Pogo stylus, that works with the capacitive touchscreens used on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad – has demonstrated an app which would allow iOS based devices to respond to pen pressure. Like on a professional graphics tablet, that would allow iPad artists to adjust line-thickness depending on how hard they pressed. Ten One say they plan to release the pressure-sensitivity as a free software library which can be used in any application based on iOS . Unfortunately, right now they’re relying on a private function call in order to make it work; as we’ve seen before, Apple’s App Store guardians don’t generally look on such calls favorably, and that could stop any app relying on the new framework from getting approved for official distribution.

Qualcomm Snapdragon open-source efforts prove frustrating

Image
Qualcomm has found itself unwittingly annoying the open-source community by posting the source code for OpenGL ES 2D/3D Linux kernel driver for its Snapdragon chipset, as found in theNexus One, Dell Streak and many other devices. However, while the kernel driver is open-source, Qualcomm’s user-space driver remains closed; that prompted David Airlie, who maintains the DRM for the Linux kernel at Red Hat, to tell Qualcomm – and anyone else considering doing the same half-hearted thing – “If you aren’t going to create an open userspace driver (either MIT or LGPL) then don’t waste time submitting a kernel driver to me.” Airlie’s first argument is that by mixing open- and closed-code Qualcomm are producing a situation whereby the licensing issues aren’t clear; plus, there’s little way of knowing what the GPU is doing, exactly, if developers don’t have access to the full code. Instead, developers are calling for Qualcomm to either open-source everything, or to produce a second, open-sourc

Nexus One gets Froyo FRF91 OTA update

Image
Android 2.2 Froyo FRF91 has begun OTA distribution for the Google Nexus One. Landing on one of our Nexus One handsets this morning, the update appears to be a relatively minor one – it’s only 2.2MB in size – and its been speculated that it merely addresses some security fixes from FRF85. We’re yet to see an official changelog, however, so that might not be the extent of the differences between the two versions. According to xda-developers you’ll need to have installed FRF85B before you can install FRF91; they have the necessary download links if you’ve not had luck waiting for an OTA install.

Luis Suarez unlikely to stay at Ajax

Image
New Hand of God owner Luis Suarez thinks it will be difficult for current club Ajax to hold on him much longer. Suarez grabbed the headlines in Uruguay's stunning semi-final run at the World Cup - first for the right reasons and then for all the wrong ones. The striker, along with captain Diego Forlan was the catalyst for the South Americans' surprisingly good performance at the World Cup.

McCullum nearly quit NZ for IPL

Image
New Zealand wicket keeper Brendon McCullum shockingly revealed that he nearly quit his national side for a stint with IPL. These revelations were made in his book ‘Inside Twenty20’. He also talked about the impact of the T20 tournament on his career. "I felt I had unfinished business from IPL II. The fact that the tournament did not pan out the way I envisaged had not sat well with me. I desperately wanted to turn it around,"  McCullum  wrote.

Pak senate contacts ICC on match-fixing

Image
Chairman of Pakistan's Senate Standing Committee on sports, Ghaffar Qureshi, claims to have contacted the ICC to discuss allegations of match-fixing. But Qureshi didn't elaborate whether the Senate committee got in touch with the ICC directly or through the Pakistan Cricket Board. Members of the Senate committee had said after a meeting with PCB officials in early June that they were shown video recordings that indicated that the menace of match fixing existed in Pakistan cricket.

Flintoff to play for childhood club

Image
Andrew Flintoff, the England all-rounder, who is still recovering from a knee surgery, has been given a thumbs up to play for the club he first joined when he was 12 years old. Flintoff  had earlier requested to turn out for the Northern League club side St Annes. "Fred has seen his consultant and is about six weeks away from full-on bowling," The Sun quoted Mike Watkinson, Lancashire's Cricket Director, as saying.

Arsenal ponder £20 million Oezil bid

Image
Arsenal are reportedly lining up a £20 million bid for 21-year-old Werder Bremen midfielder Mesut Oezil. Oezil was one of the standout players in Germany's campaign in the FIFA World Cup which culminated in a semi-final defeat to Spain on Wednesday. According to reports in the Daily Star, the player's performances in South Africa have convinced the financially prudent Arsene Wenger to consider making a big-money move.

Fletcher: We need to help Rooney

Image
Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher thinks his team-mates need to ease the burden on Wayne Rooney. Rooney is the Red Devils' talisman and is frequently relied upon to score the goals that can often mean the difference between victory and dropped points. Fletcher accepts the England ace will not always be able to find the back of the net and that is where the Scotland international thinks he and his team-mates can step in.

Gyan dreaming of England move

Image
FIFA World Cup™ star Asamoah Gyan has admitted he finds the prospect of a move to the Premier League very appealing. There has been speculation that West Ham and Sunderland are battling it out for his signature. The striker has risen to prominence over the past few weeks thanks to a string of fine performances for Ghana. Reports have suggested that he could now leave Rennes before the end of the summer, with a switch to England his preferred option.

"Capello should've picked Walcott"

Image
Arsene Wenger maintains Fabio Capello's decision to leave Theo Walcott out of the England squad was a mistake. The 21-year-old was a shock omission from the final 23-man squad for South Africa, as the Italian coach instead preferred Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips and Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon. However, after the Three Lions' wretched World Cup campaign - which ended with a 4-1 defeat to Germany in the last 16 - the Gunners forward, who had struggled with injury last season, looks set to be brought back into the fold for the Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Di Maria completes Madrid switch

Image
Angel Di Maria has completed his move to Real Madrid after passing a medical at the La Liga giants. Madrid announced they had reached an agreement with Benfica to sign Di Maria at the end of last month in a deal reportedly worth 25million euros, but they were forced to wait until Di Maria had returned from the World Cup to complete the deal. And, following Argentina's exit at the hands of Germany in the quarter-finals, the 22-year-old has now penned a six-year deal at the Bernabeu.

Phelan: Hernandez a good addition

Image
Hernandez could become "a major influence" at Old Trafford, according to Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan. The 22-year-old Mexico striker sealed a deal before the World Cup and went on to score two goals in South Africa. As part of the package United will play his former club Chivas Guadalajara at the end of their summer tour. Phelan said: "We were quietly pleased with what we saw of Javier Hernandez at the World Cup.

United bid £29million for Sneijder

Image
Manchester United have followed up their interest in Wesley Sneijder by submitting a £29million bid to Inter Milan. The Dutch midfielder has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few days after Inter admitted that the English giants are keen on signing Sneijder. The former Real Madrid player has enjoyed a magnificent season for both club and country and is currently preparing for the World Cup Final against Spain in South Africa.

Germany vs Spain - Player ratings

Image
Espnstar's David Horsburgh rates the superstars on show as Germany face Spain in the semi-finals. Germany Manuel Neuer  -6 - By far the busier keeper for most of the game and pulled off a number of great saves from David Villa in particular. Nothing he could have done about Puyol's header. Arne Friedrich  - 6.5- Tasked with probably the hardest job in world football, man marking David Villa and later on Fernando Torres. Will at least be happy that he was able to stop Villa's scoring run.

SF: Germany 0-1 Spain

Image
Carles Puyol powered Spain into their first FIFA World Cup™ final with a thunderous second-half header to beat Germany. The Euro 2008 winners dominated possession in Durban but initially struggled to create clear openings against Joachim Low's impressive young side. But after failing to break through with their subtle approach, Spain eventually brought out the sledgehammer. Iker Casillas deserves plenty of credit for his fine save to deny Toni Kroos moments before the goal.

Webber warns McLaren pair

Image
Mark Webber is convinced there will come a time when Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton suffer an on-track shunt. Webber also feels there is a touch of "smoke and mirrors" to their relationship at McLaren which the British duo insist is harmonious. But like his own partnership with team-mate Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull Racing, there is a rivalry, simply because of who they are and what they are striving for.

Robert Kubica commits to Renault

Image
Robert Kubica has signed a contract extension with Renault until the end of the 2012 Formula One season. The Polish driver has impressed in his first season with the Enstone-based team, scoring podiums in Australia and Monaco, and sits sixth in the drivers' championship standings heading into this weekend's British Grand Prix. Kubica said: "It was a straightforward decision for me to continue with a team where I feel at home. "What's important for me is to be in the right atmosphere, with a good group of people, where everybody is pulling in the same direction. This is what we have tried to build from the beginning of my time with Renault."

MS Dhoni: Celebrating a legacy

Image
By Rajarshi Gupta He walked out to bat with a candour that promised to scale peaks untouched before. Yet, when MS Dhoni was short of his crease in an aborted attempt for a single on his ODI debut against Bangladesh without troubling the scorers, the first Jharkhand cricketer to represent India did not show any sign of resentment.

Afridi wants Pak to be more consistent

Image
Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has demanded more consistency from his players as the team gears up for a Test series against Australia in England. "The key is for us to develop a habit of winning matches more regularly and consistently like other top teams including Australia and South Africa," Afridi told 'Geo Super' channel from Birmingham. Afridi , who will lead Pakistan in the Test series against Australia starting July 13, said he was delighted that the team was finally back to winning matches.

Bell: Murali is the best ever

Image
England batsman Ian Bell has hailed Muttiah Muralitharan as "the best bowler I've ever faced" after the Sri Lankan spin star announced he is set to retire from Test cricket. Bell confronted Murali during England's tour of Sri Lanka in 2007 and enjoyed a degree of success with three half-centuries in the series, but he was also dismissed four times in the series by the spinner. Bell told Press Association Sport: "To be honest Murali is the best bowler I've ever faced. "He certainly made you work hard for your runs and there was always a challenge.

Goal-line tech back on the table

Image
Dr Paul Hawkins believes the IFAB take the decision to use goal-line technology when they meet later this month. Frank Lampard's disallowed goal in England's 4-1 defeat to Germany caused uproar. Hawkins, who devised the ball-tracking device used in cricket, snooker and tennis, believes football would benefit from embracing such systems, which have been successful in other sports. He said: "The broadcast technology has moved on. Generally after close instances, everyone knows what the right decision was. So the debate is all about why nothing is being done about it.

Robben: One more victory!

Image
Netherlands beat Uruguay 3-2 to book their ticket for the 2010 World Cup final and Arjen Robben was absolutely delighted. The Bayern Munich star was already looking forward to the final and has made it clear that Oranje also want to win their seventh game of the tournament. "We had only one goal ahead of the tournament. We had a good look at each other before the match against Uruguay and I was convinced that we'd win," Robben was quoted as saying by NOS.

Moratti: United interested in Sneijder

Image
Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has confirmed Manchester United are interested in Wesley Sneijder. The 26-year-old Holland midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League side following an impressive World Cup. Sneijder, whose Inter contract expires in 2013, has fired the Dutch to the final in South Africa and will be hoping the Oranje can go all the way for the first time in their history. He also had a great domestic campaign with the Nerazzurri last term, as under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho Inter won a remarkable treble, which included the UEFA Champions League title.

Arsenal sign Laurent Koscielny

Image
Arsenal have signed defender Laurent Koscielny from French side Lorient. The 24-year-old moves to north London on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee, the Premier League club announced. Manager Arsene Wenger told Arsenal's official website: "Koscielny is a central defender with great ability who performed extremely well last season for Lorient. "We identified him as a very strong centre-half, who has made big progress very quickly. He has shown he is mentally strong, he's a fighter and a very strong competitor. Koscielny is a great addition to our squad."

Chelsea sign Czech star

Image
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of teenage defender Tomas Kalas from Czech Republic side Sigma Olomouc. However the 17-year-old centre-back will not be joining the Blues for a further year, after being loaned back to Olomouc. The talented youngster has impressed many clubs across Europe but Chelsea moved swiftly to land him. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Man City linked with Podolski

Image
Lukas Podolski's agent has confirmed a number of clubs are chasing the German star amid reports Manchester City are keen on signing the forward. Reports have suggested big-spending City are eyeing a move for Cologne ace Podolski after impressing at the World Cup in South Africa. Italian duo AC Milan and Juventus as well as Turkish titans Fenerbahce are also thought to be keeping tabs on the 25-year-old striker's situation at Cologne.

"Sneijder perfect for Red Devils!"

Image
Arjan de Zeeuw believes that Holland star Wesley Sneijder would take England by storm should he move to Manchester United. Sneijder has been identified as Sir Alex Ferguson's top target as the United boss believes that he could be the new Paul Scholes. The 25-year-old Inter Milan midfielder, whose five goals tie him for the tournament's leading striker with Spain ace David Villa, would cost about £35 million in the transfer market. De Zeeuw, who played in the Premier League for 13 years, believes that Sneijder, who scored in Holland's 3-2 semi-final victory over Uruguay, would fit in well in England.
