Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun... Music Review

Image
EXPECTATIONS First and foremost, you don't really expect a musical score for Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun . An offbeat film exploring an unexplored theme (same sex relationship), Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun didn't quite promise any songs; let aside being mainstream or unconventional. This is the reason why one is surprised to see a pretty loaded album with as many as half a dozen songs and a few theme pieces as well. Put together by composer Nikhil and lyricist Satya Prakash, Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun does make one wonder what really to expect before it is played on. MUSIC There is a surprise in store with none other than Lata Mangeshkar gracing the very opening track. She is in charge of the title track ' Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun ' which actually turns out to be a soothing song from the very first note. A love song about falling in love with no explained reason whatsoever, ' Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun ' has a haunting feel to it and should work as a part of the film

Benny and Babloo Movie Review

Image
Madhur Bhandarkar's body of work boasts of two prominent films - CHANDNI BAR and PAGE 3. CHANDNI BAR was the first film that made the viewer peep into the lives of bar girls, while PAGE 3 exposed the shallow lives of the glam brigade. Director Yunus Sajawal combines CHANDNI BAR and PAGE 3 in BENNY AND BABLOO. The film looks at the lives of bar girls and concurrently, talks of the dual standards of the elite, who often masquerade as moral guardians of the society. The question is, since we've seen it all in the past, does Sajawal go beyond CHANDNI BAR and PAGE 3? BENNY AND BABLOO tells the story from a bell boy [Kay Kay] and waiter's [Rajpal Yadav] point of view and though the story isn't innovative, it has its share of absorbing moments. Also, it tells you in very clear words that bar girls shouldn't be ostracized because of their profession. They've a responsibility to fulfill and a family to support. It also states, very coherently again, that

Enthiran - The Robot Movie Review

Image
Two things... One, it's difficult to conceptualize and execute a film like ROBOT. Two, when Rajinikant's name comes in the credits, one cannot hear anything for the next two minutes. His name is greeted with a thunderous applause, whistles yells and cheers. Such is the charisma of this superstar. Rajnikant is the Boss. The real Badshaah. ROBOT, directed by Shankar, is a Rajnikant Express that transports you to a world you can't envision. Rajnikant's feats are legendary by now. In ROBOT, he goes a step further. The Robot in ROBOT not only follows orders of his creator, but also cooks, fights, romances and wonder of wonders, has a lengthy conversation with a mosquito and scan loads of books/magazines and an entire telephone directory in a second. Yes, you read it right!  That's not all, this Robot is Superman + Spiderman + Terminator + Godzilla, all rolled into one. There's more to this Robot. It can replicate itself, wage a vicious battle, tur

Toshiba L635 Kids’ PC Heading to Best Buy

Image
While Toshiba’s Qosmio laptop may be for the PC gamers out there ready to spend some extra cash on their ultimate mobile gaming rig, the L635 Kids’ PC is a tablet that’s manufactured specifically for the kids out there in the world, looking to get their hand on a stylish design. The laptop is designed for the rigors of being “used” by those under the 10 year mark, and features a keyboard that can be wiped down repeatedly, which will hopefully keep it clean and spot-free even after the dirtiest of hands touch it. The display is 13.3-inches, and while Toshiba nor Best Buy would get into the details of the upcoming laptop, they suggest that while it’s light enough to carried around, it has plenty of features on the inside to make sure that the machine can run games and movies with ease. That includes 2GB of RAM, a dual-core Intel Celeron P4600 processor, a 250GB hard drive, and a DVD drive. The family orientation doesn’t stop with the physical attributes, either, as Toshiba has made sure

Sony VPL-VW90ES & VPL-VWPRO1 3D and 2D Front Projectors Announced

Image
Despite what some statistics may say, Sony’s still pushing the 3D revolution for the home. Not only is their home video game console now fully capable of doing it, but their BRAVIA HDTV s are also 3D capable. Today, Sony has announced their brand new 3D front projector, the VPL-VW90ES. Sony’s made sure to pull out all the stops with this high-priced projector, and it’s even the first one to earn Sony’s “Elevated Standard” (ES) tag, which signifies that the projector has passed the bill with outstanding video experience, and an overall high build quality. The VPL-VWPRO1 is the lower-cost sibling, featuring only 2D capabilities. The VPL-VW90ES features a 240Hz framerate, as well as a 1,000 ANSI lumens brightness, thanks to the Ultra High Performance (UHP) lamp installed therein. It has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and features Sony’s 24p True Cinema experience, which means you’ll get the film-like experience right out of the box. The dynamic contrast ratio of 150,000:1 is made possible t

Verbatim Clip-It USB Drive Weighs Literally Nothing, Comes in Multiple Colors

Image
For those interested in tech, the specifics of a device or gadget are generally enough to rile up the masses. Featuring the latest and greatest gets the attention, but we imagine that if you’re announcing another USB memory stick, then you need something other than “It stores this much.” Verbatim, obviously hindered by the other specifications of their new Clip-It USB drives have managed to do the impossible: make the world’s first weightless object. According to Verbatim, anyway. The other features are that the Clip-It USB drives come in either 2GB or 4GB sizes. And, as the name might suggest, you can even use the USB drive to clip together pages, while it’s not in use in your computer. They also come in a multitude of colors. However, it doesn’t get interesting until you look at how much these little guys weigh. According to Verbatim’s Business Development Manager, Hans-Christopher Kaiser, “it weighs literally nothing, so it will not cause extra postal charges.” Literally nothing.

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5TB Review

Image
The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1.5TB portable drive isn’t the first of the company’s modular external storage we’ve reviewed, but it’s certainly the largest. Proudly billed as the industry’s first 1.5TB portable external drive, the new FreeAgent also boasts a speedy USB 3.0 interface for faster data shuffling. Thanks to GoFlex, meanwhile, you can also switch that out for FireWire, eSATA or other connections, or even slap it in one of Seagate’s docking stations. Is this the best portable drive out there? Check out our full review after the cut. Available only in glossy black, the new 1.5TB FreeAgent measures a reasonable thick 4.71 x 3.51 x 0.87 inches and weighs 0.62lbs. It comes pre-fitted with the GoFlex USB 3.0 adapter, a dongle that snaps onto the HDD’s SATA port and has a short USB 3.0 cable. Seagate preload a copy of their Memeo-based backup software together with an NTFS driver for Macs that allows OS X users to access content without needing to reformat first. Unfortunately you’

“Who needs Blu-ray?” quips UK Xbox chief as downloads dominate

Image
It looks like Microsoft and Apple can agree on at least one thing: Blu-ray is under serious threat from digital downloads. After Steve Jobs dismissed Blu-ray support for future Macs with the suggestion that the format “is looking more and more like one of the high end audio formats that appeared as the successor to the CD – like it will be beaten by Internet downloadable formats,” Microsoft’s Xbox UK chief Stephen McGill has suggested that Blu-ray “is going to be passed by as a format.” Talking to Xbox360 Achievements, McGill dismissed suggestions that the absence of a Blu-ray drive was limiting the Xbox 360′s potential shelf-life. Instead, like Jobs, he suggested that streamed or downloaded content from online was increasingly the format DVD users were migrating to: “I think people now recognise what a smart decision it was to keep the pricing low, and actually Blu-ray is going to be passed by as a format. People have moved through from DVDs to digital downloads and digital streami

Dell eye Google TV for potential IPTV STB push

Image
Dell has become the latest company to admit to eyeing up the home entertainment market, with desktop product manager Chris Camilletti confirming that the PC giant is currently evaluating STB prototypes. Although Camilletti says Dell has nothing to publicly announce, he did say that one of the options being considered is the Android-based Google TV . Whatever the eventual device and OS, it would be intended to bridge the gap between internet-based content – presumably such as YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand – and users’ big-screen TVs, with Dell hoping it helps bring their product line out of the office and into the living room. Various prototypes are under consideration, Camilletti says, from traditional STB manufacturers and ODMs.

alessiTab Android home tablet to get €399 November release

Image
Alessi’s Android-based alessiTab is finally approaching availability, with the L-shaped 10.1-inch capacitive slate set to hit Italian shelves in November. designboom scored an invite to the launch event – held at designerStefana Giovannoni‘s own home – to get a demo of the tablet, which packs 1GB of storage, a DVB-T digital TV tuner, WiFi b/g and an HDMI output. Apparently Giovannoni wasn’t satisfied merely designing the not-especially-bag-friendly casing of the alessiTab, but instead completely overhauled the interface too. It comes preloaded with various widgets – for news, weather, recipes and acting as a digital photo frame – and an internet radio app, but it seems there won’t be Android Market access. Instead Alessi claims they’ve picked a carefully curated set of software experiences that should suit the home market the alessiTab finds itself in. There’s also IPTV support, video and audio playback, plus a webcam, microphone and speakers for using the alessiTab as a videophone

10-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab in H1 2011 confirmed first of slate series

Image
Samsung made no disguise of their plan to launch a series of Galaxy Tab slates over the next couple of yearswhen we met them at IFA 2010 a few weeks back, and now what could be the next model in the line-up has been tipped. Samsung Mobile Ireland manager Gary Twohig refused to tell Siliconrepublic exactly how much the Galaxy Tab would cost, but he did confirm that the company is preparing a 10-inch version for release in the first half of 2011. Unsurprisingly, that 10-inch Galaxy Tab would also run Android, together with a V8 Javascript engine. By then, Google are expected to have launched Android 3.0 Gingerbread, complete with native support for larger-screen tablet devices; that should make the bigger Tab a more competitive prospect against its natural competitor, the iPad. According to the company reps at IFA, Samsung also has smaller versions of the Galaxy Tab scheduled for release in 2011, which would presumably slot in-between the Galaxy S family of Android smartphones and the

Mimobots is celebrating the scenes with the duo dressed as Stormtroopers with a pair of new Mimobot flash drives. The bots are offered with two lids. One of the lids is the Stormtrooper helmet and the other lid is hair allowing you to have the bots both ways. The extra hair cap is a limited edition item with only 500 of them available. After those caps are gone, the drives will come with the helmet only. The drives come with digital content loaded onto them from the factory. Minima concept phone has a wicker style keypad

Image
As much time as many of use spend on our mobile phones we want them to be easy to use and comfortable to hold. We also want all kinds of cool features. Some folks would put style over usability. Wood is a popular material on tech gadgets of late with lots of notebooks using wood in the design. A new concept phone from designer Seung-Hyun Yoon has surfaced at Yanko Design that has a curvy look and is inspired by wood. The outside of the phone has a bamboo look to it. I can’t tell if the wood on the outside is real or fake from the images, but it looks cool. Flip the phone open and it has a large screen and a keyboard that looks like those creaky wicker chairs my grandmother has on her patio. The design is very cool and I can see this thing being sold with the Asus brand on it.

ThinkGeek debuts TK-421 iPhone case with Flip-Out keyboard

Image
Many folks out there like the iPhone, but lament the lack of a physical keyboard for the smartphone. Earlier this month a case from Nuu broke cover that added a QWERTY keyboard to the iPhone and today we have a new case with a keyboard for the iPhone from ThinkGeek. The ThinkGeek case is called the TK-421 and has a flip-out keyboard that hides under the iPhone when not needed. To reveal the keyboard the iPhone swivels up to the right and out of the way. That keyboard has little square keys in a standard QWERTY layout. There are versions for the iPhone 3GS as well as the iPhone 4. Both use Bluetooth for connecting to the iPhone and the cases protect the smartphones as well. The keyboard will work with email, notes, and web surfing. Either version is $49.99 and won’t be in stock until around November 23.
