The device is called the HS-905 BT and it may be perfect for the user that is thinking about picking up one of the new Bluetooth devices that are debuting at the show. Turbine-powered replica 1989 Batmobile hits eBay for $620,000

Image
I like the Batman movie franchise, but honestly found them to be very cheesy until Christian Bale took over and Batman went much more raw and real. If you have a penchant for the early films and are completely loaded here is your chance to own the most awesome Batmobile replicas ever from those early movies. The car has an iPad in the dash and under 2,000 miles. This replica is based on the 1989 Batmobile car and it is better than the vehicles used in the film. This car is actually powered by a turbine engine. The engine came out of a drone helicopter called the Gyrodyne QH-50 Dash. The engine directly powers the rear wheels of the vehicle and makes in the area of 365hp and uses a sequentially shifted 4-speed transmission with reverse. The car body is made from fiberglass and aluminum. The turbine runs on Jet A, kerosene, or diesel The car was handmade at a racecar assembly hop and is listed as street legal and drivable, it looks very low to the ground in the photos, but the car has an

Samsung Wave 3 hands-on [Video]

Samsung’s bada platform has been something of a stealth OS until now, though one that’s seen surprising smartphone success in the market. Still, it’s remains on the down-low in comparison to Android, iOS and others, something Samsung hopes to change with bada 2.0 and the Wave 3. We grabbed some hands-on time with the 4-inch smartphone at IFA 2011; read on for our first impressions. The lineage between the original Wave S8500 and this third-gen model is clear: it has a neat unibody metal casing (with a cute slide-up battery compartment door that reminds us of spring-loaded Nokia handsets of old) and is fronted by a bright, color-rich Super AMOLED display. bada 2.0 could perhaps be mistaken for Android at first glance, though that’s more to do with Samsung’s own TouchWiz design language than a pure resemblance to Google’s OS. Still, Samsung does seem to have played catch-up to Google in some respects, adding in voice control for search, commands and dictation, and an “enhanced” copy &

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 hands-on [Video]

Image
It’s the one year anniversary of the original Galaxy Tab , with Samsung’s first 7-inch stab at the market launching at IFA 2010. This year, with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 under its belt and the Tab 8.9 imminent, it’s the turn of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 to make its debut. Bigger screen, better processor and now in time for Honeycomb, the high-resolution Tab 7.7 wants to convince you that just because Steve Jobs isn’t a fan of the 7-inch form-factor, that doesn’t mean there’s no room for “tweener” slates. Read on for our first impressions from the show.

SSC Tuatara packs 1350hp and more awesome than you can measure

Image
If you like cars of all sorts one of the places you want to go is pebble Beach during their awesome car show out on the grass. At the show, you will see everything from common luxury rides polished and shined to perfection often beyond what the cars were like when they rolled out of the factory. You can also lay your eyes on some truly awesome current exotics. One of the most exotic of the exotics that sat on the grass in pebble Beach was the SSC Tuatara. This car is made by Shelby SuperCars, which is no relation to the infamous Carol Shelby of GT500 Mustang and Cobra fame. The beast from SSC packs enough power under the hood to make the Bugatti Veyron feel like a VW Beatle. The Tuatara pounds out 1,350 horsepower form a twin-turbo 7-liter V8 engine. That is enough reckons Jerod Shelby to push the car over the top speed the Bugatti Veyron has currently. Pebble Beach was the North American debut for the car. There will only be 16 of the cars produced at a million each. I will say that t

Samsung Galaxy Note hands-on [Video]

Image
Can Samsung save the stylus? The Samsung Galaxy Note is the company’s main surprise at IFA 2011 this week, a MID-scale super-smartphone that offers a blend of phone and tablet functionality with a dash of paper notebook thrown in too. We thought the Galaxy S II was big, with its 4.3-inch display, and then were slightly more surprised by the Inspire 4G when that stepped up to 4.5-inches. The Galaxy Note, though, surpasses them both, with its huge 5.3-inch panel. Samsung brands it as HD Super AMOLED, and claims it’s the statistical midpoint discovered when consumers were polled for their thoughts on ideals of front visibility, single-handed operation, pen input and calling. Read on for our hands-on first impressions.

Image
Samsung has tossed the interchangeable lens NX200 and a gaggle of lenses into the limelight at IFA 2011. Samsung Smart TV Update includes YouTube 3D Video App Update

Image
The Samsung updates are flowing like wine here in Berlin, as Samsung’s Unpacked event this week has revealed a large overflowing cup of new features for their Smart TV platform, the most interesting of which may be the fact that the next update will come with instant connectivity to YouTube’s library of 3D videos through the newly updated YouTube on TV application for Smart TV. You’ll be able to stream YouTube 3D videos at will, this adding countless bits of content to your relatively small set of already available 3D videos. Will this be enough for you to want a 3D television in the future? Yes indeed, it’s been the bane of those adopting the 3D platform since its re-introduction over the past few years that content creators aren’t quite traveling at the same speed as hardware creators – with this update and connection to YouTube’s 3D library, you’ve got an ever-expanding collection. It’s the way mobile devices are working now as well, offering one piece of the puzzle for free while t

Microsoft sued for allegedly tracking mobile users without permission

Image
A lawsuit was filed in Seattle this week that alleges Microsoft is tracking the location so users with Windows Phone 7 smartphones without the user’s permission. The tracking apparently has to do with software on the smartphones for the camera. The software is on every WP7 handset out there no matter the brand. The camera software allegedly tracks and transmits data to Microsoft even if the owner has specifically opted out of sharing information. In the past Microsoft has said they only track location data when the user has given consent to be tracked. The suit was filed on behalf of one user of a WP7 handset. There are details that are left to the imagination though including the name of the person filing the suit and how exactly this person found that the camera app was tracking users. At this point, there is no more information the case. We know that tracking of people against their wishes with smartphones is possible. Apple has found itself in lots of hot water over the act in the

Now this isn’t the first time we’ve gotten a look at the Wave 3, Samsung officially unveiling the Wave 3, the Wave M, and the Wave Y in a release on the 30th of this month. What’s new for the viewing at the Samsung Unpacked event is the groups renewed dedication to the Bada platform and slightly different spin on the trio of devices announced this week making them seem all the more appealing as they surf in to an ocean of mobile devices, a flood if you will, largely dominated by Samsung’s other main partner in mobile, Google’s Android. I’d like again to direct you back to the Samsung Unveils Wave 3, Wave M, and Wave Y post for a specifications rundown, all of the details you’ll need on the hardware before we set you up with hands-on explorations of the devices this week as well. Compared to essentially any competitor’s smartphone or tablet display technology

Droid Bionic promotion begins with DroidDoes.com and DroidLanding

Image
We’re getting very close to the launch of the long delayed Motorola Droid Bionic. The rumored September 8 launch may very well be true as promotions for the handset have now kicked off big time. An official Droid Bionic page has gone live on DroidDoes.com along with the scavenger hunt initiation on @DroidLanding. In case you’re not familiar, @DroidLanding has been orchestrating tons of giveaways for each Droid launch, including the Droid X, X2, and the Charge. These giveaways are done in the form of scavenger hunts, where you run around town following clues as to where a stash of Droid devices could be hidden. They are calling this ARena, for Augmented Reality scavenger hunt where you’ll take your current Android smartphone using an augmented reality application to find your own Droid Bionic. The event has officially kicked off today with the first video of clues shown on DroidDoes.com. The contest will run until September 7, which falls in line with the rumored September 8 launch. Add

Apple loses another iPhone prototype at a bar

Image
Despite the high-profile incident last year with an Apple employee losing an iPhone 4 prototype at a bar, it seems the same blunder has happened again for the iPhone 5. But this time, the lost prototype, gone missing since late July, managed to stay under the radar until CNET reported learning of it today. The iPhone 5 prototype went missing in San Francisco’s Mission district in late July when an Apple employee left the device at a “tequila lounge” called Cava 22. The device was reportedly taken from the bar and sold on Craigslist for $200. Apple security tried to recover the device and electronically traced the phone to a two-story single-family home in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood. Apple’s investigators along with the San Francisco police paid the address a visit and found a man in his twenties who admitted to being at Cava 22 on the night the phone went missing but insisted that he knew nothing of the device. Apple employees offered money for the phone with no questi

HTC Eternity 4.7-inch Windows Phone Mango handset hits FCC

Image
HTC’s very first Windows Phone Mango handset called the HTC Eternity has just passed through the FCC, ready for an imminent launch. The major Windows Phone update is rumored to start rolling out as soon as tomorrow with all the major manufacturing partners expected to debut their first Mango handsets during IFA 2011. Very few details have been revealed about the HTC Eternity and the FCC filing also gives little in the way of clues, except that it has won approval for GSM bands 850 and 1900 with no mention of WCDMA bands. But there have been plenty of rumors on the device, which is expected to sport a whopping 4.7-inch WVGA Super LCD touchscreen. And you thought the 4.5-inch displays on the Samsung Infuse and the recent Galaxy S II variants were big? Inside, the Eternity is rumored to have a 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. It’s also expected to have a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera capable of 720p HD

Samsung Series 7 Slate to be upgradeable to Windows 8

Image
Samsung debuted a new tablet today called the Series 7 Slate. But this wasn’t another Android tablet, instead, oddly it ran Windows 7 with the company confirming plans to make the device upgradeable to Windows 8. Some early hands-on impressions of the device say that it may be the best Windows 7 tablet ever made. The Samsung Series 7 Slate features a 11.6-inch Gorilla Glass covered display that doubles as a Wacom tablet with the use of a pressure sensitive stylus. Inside, it sports either an i3 or i5 processor with 4GB of RAM. It also offers both a rear- and front-facing camera as well as support for both WiMAX and HSPA+ network connections. The tablet also sports what appears to be a home screen button with the Windows icon. It’s not clear whether this is Samsung’s own decision or a standard we’ll be seeing in all future Windows 8 tablets. A more detailed preview of Windows 8 is set to take place at the Build developer conference in September with rumors of a public beta to be release

HTC may offer Sensation Special Edition with Beats

Image
HTC may soon be offering the Beats by Dr. Dre audio technology in one of its current smartphones. Rumors pointed to the upcoming HTC Vigor as the first handset to feature Beats technology, but that may not be the case according to a document obtained by CNET. Instead, it looks like HTC will offer a Sensation Special Edition to sport the new fine-tuned audio experience. According to the document, the HTC Sensation Special Edition will not only feature Beats audio technology internally but will also come with a set of Beats headphones with a remote control. It will also sport a faster 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, up from the dual-core 1.2GHz processor in the current model. Plus, it will get four times more internal storage with 4GB and a step up in battery from 1,520mAh to 1,730mAh. However, the HTC Sensation Special Edition is priced at a whopping £520 or $847 and it’s not clear whether this edition will only be available in the UK or if it would also make its way to the states. Microsoft explains Windows 8 dual-interface design

Image
Microsoft Windows chief Steven Sinofsky has taken to the Building Windows 8 blog to explain the company’s decision to keep two interfaces: the traditional desktop UI and the more tablet-friendly Metro UI. His explanation seemed to be in response to criticism and confusion after the latest details were revealed on the new Windows 8 Explorer interface. On Monday, details on the Windows 8 Explorer file manager interface were revealed showing what looked to be a very traditional Windows UI without any Metro elements. Reactions were mixed with many confused as to what direction Microsoft was heading with its Windows 8 interface. Well, Sinofsky is attempting to answer that and says that it is a “balancing act” of trying to get both interfaces working together harmoniously. Sinofsky writes in his post: Some of you are probably wondering how these parts work together to create a harmonious experience. Are there two user interfaces? Why not move on to a Metro style experience everywhere? On the

Facebook to launch music service on September 22

Image
Facebook’s long rumored music service may finally hit the social platform later next month. We reported back in June, that the music service could launch at the company’s f8 developer conference, and now a new report fromCNBC’s Jon Fortt further confirms that the service will indeed be unveiled during the event on September 22. Rumors first pegged Facebook to be partnering with Spotify, but sources later suggested that the partnership would not be exclusive. Instead, the platform would integrate many partners, possibly including MOG, Rdio, Pandora, Last.fm, and other popular music streaming services. In this way, users can listen to music through any one of the multiple partner services while logged in via Facebook Connect. It’s also believed that Facebook will use a “Music Dashboard” that will work with a persistent play/pause music control button that will appear at the bottom of the screen near the Facebook Chat icon. The Music Dashboard will keep a summary of all the songs you list

IFA 2011: Sony outs A-Series and S-Series Bluetooth Walkman players along with E460

Image
I haven’t owned or used a Walkman since the 80′s when they were big yellow devices that played cassette tapes. Sony has a bunch of new Walkman players that it has unveiled at IFA 2011 and most support Bluetooth wireless playback. The Walkman A860, S760, and E460 players all support MediaGo software for drag and drop media transfers. The devices also all use Clear Audio Tech and have Karoke Mode and Bluetooth. All three players also have Music unlimited that will land within this year. This device has a 2-inch screen and comes in 8GB or 16GB. The A860 will play tunes for 23 hours and video for five hours. The S760 is good for 50 hours of audio playback and ten hours on video. The E460 has a 2-inch screen and is offered in 4GB or 8GB capacities. It lacks Bluetooth, but has 50hrs of audio playback or 10 ho

Nokia’s first Windows Phone spied in leaked photo with blurry specs

Image
Nokia’s very first Windows Phone 7 Mango handset has made an appearance in what’s purported to be a leaked carrier presentation sheet. Codenamed “Sea Ray,” the handset first surfaced in an internal company video of Nokia CEO Stephen Elop introducing the phone to employees. But since then, little has been revealed about the device, and now it has possibly turned up again as the Nokia 703 with specs listed, though conveniently too blurry to be read. The handset in the picture looks very much like the Nokia N9 MeeGo handset, which the Sea Ray is modeled on. But we’ll just call it the 703 for now, since we can’t be sure this is indeed the Sea Ray and not another variation. It has a full touchscreen display on the front-face without any physical keys and according to what we can make out of the specs, it has a 3.7-inch display, 8GB of storage, 512MB RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture at 30fps. The specs don’t sound all that amazing, pegging it as a more mid-range

Sony unveils SRS-BTV25 and RDP-V20iP smartphone 360-degree speakers at IFA 2011

Image
Sony is at IFA 2011 with a hoard of new gear for geeks to lust after. One of the new items Sony is showing off gives your smartphone balls, or at least one ball. The ball shaped speaker is called the SRS-BTV25 and it comes in black or white colors. It is designed to have a 360-degree soundscape. The idea with speakers like this is that you can place it anywhere in a room and get the same sound quality. Sony claims that this speaker is completely balanced and that it will sound the same from anywhere in the room. The speaker uses 360-degree Circle Sound technology inside and the user streams music from the device wirelessly. It will connect with any Bluetooth device including the iPhone and Walkman players. This would be an interesting speaker for watching movies and gaming as well as listening to your playlist of music. Features include a bass-boost function for better bass and it has a line-input. That line in allows you to hook devices that lack Bluetooth to the speaker. The speaker

AT&T faces US antitrust complaint over T-Mobile merger

Image
AT&T may be working hard insisting that it’s in users’ best interest for the T-Mobile acquisition to go ahead, but it’s a long way from convincing regulators. The Department of Justice has filed an antitrust complaint in an attempt to block the merger, Bloomberg reports, arguing that it would “substantially lessen competition” in the US wireless market. Meanwhile, the FCC has waded in as well, with chairman Julius Genachowski revealing that the agency also has “serious concerns” about the deal. “AT&T’s elimination of T-Mobile as an independent, low- priced rival would remove a significant competitive force from the market” the DOJ complaint alleges. That would result “in higher prices, poorer quality services, fewer choices and fewer innovative products for the millions of American consumers who rely on mobile wireless services in their everyday lives.” It’s a similar refrain from the FCC, with the chairman voicing his own concerns. According to a statement passed to This is my

Amazon’s 10-inch Tablet may not ship until 2012

Image
Amazon is rumored to debut two tablets this fall, but a new report from the supply side suggests that only one of the tablets will make its way to market before year-end. According to DigiTimes, mass production on Amazon’s larger 10.1-inch tablet will not begin until the first quarter of 2012. The 10.1-inch Amazon tablet is believed to be codenamed “Hollywood” and will sport a quad-core NVIDIA Kal-El processor, which may end up being called the Tegra 3. It’s expected to be manufactured by Foxconn, the same factory that produces the Kindle as well as Apple’s iPad. Amazon’s tablet has been considered a potential iPad-killer with Amazon’s ecosystem of ebooks, movies, and music services, a strong distribution channel, and aggressive pricing advantage. Amazon’s 7-inch tablet is still expected to ship starting this October but it will be supplied by Quanta instead. This smaller tablet is codenamed “Coyote” and is deemed more as a “Super-Kindle.” It’s seen to be going head to head against Bar

Panasonic Lumix 3D twin-lens camera debuts at IFA 2011

Image
I mentioned a bit ago that Panasonic had a new dual-lens 3D camcorder that would be landing soon. Panasonic has also shown off a new 3D still camera at IFA 2011 called the Lumix 3D that has 3D HD video capability. The camera can shoot 2D HD video as well. The camera is compact and it uses two new lenses to be able to achieve the compact dimensions according to Panasonic. Each of the lenses are 4x optical zoom with thin, folded optics. The design of the optics allows the capturing of clear and sharp video and photos from a distance. The camera has integrated Optical Image Stabilization and works with 2D and 3D shooting. This system helps to reduce the blur associated with zooming when shooting video or taking photos. The twin lens system also allows the camera to shoot 2D video and photos at the same time. The 3D content uses both lenses at once in a side-by-side system in AVCHD format. The camera will connect to any Viera 3D TV to shoot photos and video in 3D to the TV. The camera will

Revo has announced that it has a new docking station for dockable iOS devices like the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The docking station is a tower design that looks very nice and is called the K2. All of the controls are on the top of the station. The K2 is made from aluminum and rubber and supports a variety of radio formats as well. The device supports DAB, DAB+, FM, and internet radio. It also has full audio and video playback from the iPhone and other devices and supports online music from Last.fm. You can also connect the K2 to your PC or Mac and stream music wirelessly. The hardware inside the device will produce some impressive 40W sound and uses four neodymium Balance Mode Radiator speaker drivers and dual Class-D amps. The K2 uses DSP tech to optimize sound quality and allow sound to come out of the small dock that sounds like it is being produced by a larger device. The design of the hardware inside allows for almost 360-degrees of sound dispersal. The front screen of the do

Times have changed since the VAIO UX’s day, though, and where once tablets were niche devices, now they’re making headway into our living rooms. The Sony Tablet S is the first model of the company’s new strategy, packing Android Honeycomb into a hardware design that’s a little more interesting than many rivals have managed. Late to the game against the iPad, though, has the Tablet S’ tardiness undermined its potential? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut. Hardware

The folks at Sony have revealed a reader we’ve been getting hints on for about a month now, today letting us know that the lightest 6-inch eReader device ever has arrived. This newest look at an eReader from Sony builds on their previous successes and offers lovers of electronic reading materials a lovely sub-6-ounce piece of hardware with a 6-inch E-Ink Pearl V220 touch screen that’ll be available in black, red, or white. Antec unveils new soundscience a/v cooler to keep your home theater gear frosty

Image
I have a bunch of gear stuffed into my entertainment system at home. That means that the inside of my entertainment center stays hot all year long thanks to the doors on the front. In fact, the high heat inside the entertainment center contributed to the failure of my PS3 last year. If you have a lot of gear in your entertainment center and needs a way to keep your hardware cool Antec has a new offering that might do the trick. The device is called the Antec soundscience a/v cooler. It looks pretty much just like the coolers that Antec and others make for notebooks where you sit the notebook on top of the aluminum plate and the cooler helps dissipate heat. The top of the a/v cooler is made from aluminum. Inside there are a pair of 80mm fans to cool your hardware and shoot that heat out the back. The blower fans are two speed and pull the heat from under the a/v cooler and then shoot the heat out of the back vents. The fans are designed to be quiet with 28.7dBA of sound. The cooler need

Scosche unveils RDTX pro portable radiation detector for iPhone

Image
This may be one of the strangest accessories for the iPhone and iPod touch I have seen in a very long time. Scosche has rolled out a new accessory called the RDTX pro portable radiation detector. The detector needs no calibration and claims to accurately detect gamma radiation above 60keV with plus or minus 5% accuracy. It plugs into the iPhone or touch via the charge and sync port. The data the sensor detects is shared with an app running on the phone. The sensor also can also be used as a radiation alarm without being connected to the iPhone. The standalone sensor requires one AA battery for operating and will run for 96 hours. The associated app is called radTEST app and shows radiation in safe (green), elevated (yellow), and dangerous (red) levels. It also offers a digital display to show the exact radiation levels. The level readings can also be shared using Facebook, Twitter, and Google Maps to scare your paranoid friends. The device will sell for $329.99 and will be offered in T

Acer Ultrabook S3/Aspire 3951 lands on Italian website early

Image
A few days ago some photos of an Acer Ultrabook S3 also known as the Aspire 3951 surfaced. The machine was lounging by the pool in the shots and other than what the machine looks like we didn’t get a lot of other details. Notebook Italia reports that the Ultrabook S3 has now turned up on an Italian website with the specs and price in tow. The machine is listed as the Ultrabook S3 and shows that the base machine packs in an Intel Core i5-2467M, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB HDD. The machine also has a 320GB HDD along with a 20GB SSD. I would assume that SSD is the boot drive for the machine to speed performance. The base configuration has a price listed for Italy of 786 euros. The S3 has a 13.3-inch screen, is 13mm thick, and uses the popular chiclet style keyboard. The strait conversion price as of writing would make the machine about $1,130 here in the US. That puts the price over the much talked about Intel Ultrabook price of under $1,000. That would seem to indicate that earlier hints tha

Light Field photo tech promises true HD upscaling

Image
One of the things that delays photos that you take with a point and shoot camera between when you press the shutter button and the image is actually recorded is the time needed to focus. We have already talked about a camera before called the Lytro light field camera that could shoot a photo and then focus later that would eliminate that delay. Fraunhofer is now presenting a similar solution at IBC 2011 convention in Amsterdam that will allow photographers to use a special lens and software after the photo is snapped to change focus, angle, and depth of field. The hardware and software technique will allow photographers and videographers to go back and completely change a scene or photo to focus on a different aspect and will allow them to change where the point of focus is on a photo or video as well. In tests, the researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute used a micro lens array in front of a camera sensor. Each lens of the camera records a slightly shifted image of the scene as if s

Financial Times app pulled from App Store

Image
I don’t think any of the companies with apps that sold monthly subscriptions on the App Store were happy in the least when Apple instituted its new method of subscription payments where it took 30% of the monthly fees. The requirement was that all subscription payments in apps must go through the iTunes store. Many companies are getting around that by offering access via the web using a web browser rather than an app. Since the Financial Times wouldn’t come to compliance with the iTunes rule, Apple has now removed the app from the App Store. That means iPad and iPhone users can no longer get the apps to view the paper. Apparently, the digital subscriptions are important to the publication. It has been growing its digital subscribers at a robust rate. Reports claim that since the FT app launched 10% of the digital subscriptions to the paper were made on the iPad. The FT had gained 100,000 new subscribers to its digital edition so as many as 10,000 readers may have been using the iPad. T

Apple MacBook 3G prototype called back home

Image
When a geek happens across something early or really weird that was not meant to leave the inner workings of a company like Apple, they tend to throw it on eBay looking to make some loot off the deal. Such was the case when an eBay seller put a prototype MacBook Pro up on eBay earlier this month. The prototype was notable because it had a 3G antenna and a SIM card slot inside. That 3G connectivity is an option that many people have wanted for a long time on a MacBook. The prototype machine never made the end of the auction though since Apple found out about it and had the auction pulled before it finished. The seller had purchased the notebook on Craigslist earlier this year according to CNET. The machine was originally purchased for parts to use in a repair business. The bidding had apparently hit $70,000 before it was pulled; the odds of that winning bidder actually paying were probably slim. Apple has now reached out to the owner of the prototype, one Carl Fregna, and wants to send

Java creator James Gosling ditches Google for robotics firm after less than 6 months on the job

Image
In March of 2011, Google hired James Gosling, the father of Java for an unspecified position. We naturally assumed that Gosling was going to work on Android in some capacity. Strangely, at the time Gosling landed at Google, it and Oracle were in a legal battle over the alleged use of some Java code in Android. Gosling is no longer working at Google and the reason for leaving isn’t noted. I wonder if it had anything to do with the Google/Oracle fight over Java. Gosling left Google to become the chief software architect at Liquid Robotics. The CEO of Liquid Robotics is Bill Vass. Vass and Gosling worked together at Sun Microsystems previously. Gosling will be writing software for the cool robots that Liquid Robotics makes. The bots are called Wave Glider and are designed to glide through the oceans collecting data on all sorts of things. The bots are able to harvest the power they need form the waves in the ocean and are autonomous. The robotics firm only makes about a third of its overa
