Accessories updated thanks to iPhone 4S

Image
With over four million iPhone 4S sold in just three days after its release, demand to reach the new customers and owners has begun at pace. Apps and accessories to suit the new Apple device, utilising its new software and exterior design have inspired manufacturers and developers. When the iPhone 4S contracts are delivered, users receive Apple Earphones with a remote control and Mic, along with a dock connector to a USB cable and a USB power adaptor. However accessories remain big business, allowing users to protect their phones with screen covers and cases, which either fit the phone inside or cover the back like a gel skin. It also adds to a sense of individuality, marking your phone out and adding to its personality. From wrist straps to keep your phone close at hand when out and about, to diamante fastens, small holdalls or connectors to enable hands free driving or charging the phone via solar panels, many online stores design accessories exclusively for manufacturers, like A

Siri Can Make Calls On Passcode-Locked iPhone 4S : Security Flaw Or iOS Slipup?

Image
Siri, a newly launched voice activation service is already creating a lot of buzz and considered as the brilliant application for Apple iPhone 4S. But as we all know that every good thing is not now flawless so as Siri. Recently,  Security firm Sophos has confirmed that Siri allows the user to make calls even when your Apple iPhone 4S is locked. Though it is an intended feature in the Apple iPhone 4S but this news however can be considered as a security slip-up and it may also slow the momentum of sale of iPhone 4S. If you are an owner of an iPhone 4S and want to test its security feature, you just need to set up a pass code. To set a pass code in your iPhone 4S you need to go in the settings tab and then to General and then pass code lock. Here you need to enter a new pass code two times and press the power button once and your iPhone 4S is locked. Now if you want to access your locked iPhone 4S you need to hit the power or the home button and swipe the unlock arrow and now you m

Toshiba 6-inch tablet display offers 498ppi print-quality

Image
Toshiba has revealed its latest high-resolution display, a 6.1-inch panel that runs at a whopping 2,560 x 1,600 and which could allow for tablets capable of photo-quality graphics. The new panel, which has a Retina Display busting pixel density of 498ppi, delivers well in excess of Full HD resolution in a screen smaller than you’d find on, say, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. It also packs in far more pixels than the Tab 7.7, which had already impressed us back at IFA 2011 with its 1280 x 800 resolution. The Toshiba Mobile Display panel has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and offers 16.7m colors, covering 61-percent of the NTSC color gamut. Viewing angles are 176-degrees both horizontally and vertically, making it ideal for tablets since they’re usually flipped regularly between portrait and landscape orientation. While the current model runs in 2D, Toshiba suggests that future iterations could show 3D images instead. One possible implementation could be a high-res glasses-free 3D display; usua

iPhone 4S Siri insecure says security team

Image
Apple’s Siri has come under fire from security researchers, over concerns that the voice control system can, by default, be used by anybody even when your iPhone 4S is passcode-locked. Since Siri’s settings out of the box allow it to be instantly triggered from the lock-screen, researchers Sophos highlighted, and bypass the PIN-entry, anybody with physical access to your iPhone 4S can send emails and SMS messages, access the calendar and do anything else the digital personal assistant is capable of. The problem, they say, is that Apple opted for convenience over security in its setup decisions. As standard, access to Siri is permitted even when the phone itself is secured with a passcode; that means you need to punch in a PIN if you want to use the iPhone 4S normally, but can give Siri spoken commands simply by holding the handset to your ear. There’s an option to put Siri behind the passcode security in the iOS 5 settings, as shown in the screenshot here, but by default it’s toggl

Samsung flaunts Focus S and Focus Flash Mango phones

Image
Samsung is showing off the new Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handsets the company announced last month, the Focus Flash and the Focus S, set to hit AT&T in Q4 this year. The Focus S is the big boy of the pairing, packing a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display despite only being 8.55mm thick (at its thinnest point); in comparison, the Focus Flash has a more mainstream 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen. Both, however, get 1.4GHz single-core processors – Microsoft has said that dual-cores are in the pipeline, but argues that, as it stands, Windows Phone on a single-core is just as fast as rival platforms running on dual-cores – along with dual cameras. The Focus S has an 8-megapixel main camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, while the Focus Flash downgrades the main camera to 5-megapixels. Still no word on pricing at this stage, nor exact release dates beyond Q4. Samsung is playing its cards close to its chest, but the Windows Phone market is likely to get a whole lot more competitiv

PlayStation 3D Display due Nov 13; Sony “evaluating” bigger models

Image
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 3D Display will go on sale November 13, offering 24-inches of 1080p HD 3D gaming for $499.99. Answering questions on the official PlayStation blog, Sony revealed that the display won’t come with a remote control but will instead rely on the new PS3 Remote Control for armchair surfing. Meanwhile, there’s confirmation that Sony is considering making larger versions in the future. There’s also no internal TV tuner, but a pair of HDMI 1.4 ports along with a single component video input mean you can hook up external tuners, Blu-ray and DVD players, or your computer. Sound is courtesy of stereo speakers and an integrated subwoofer, though there’s a single headphones socket too. Of course, the part we’re really interested in is SimulView, which allows two gamers to play – in 2D – simultaneously while seeing different views on the same panel. That means head-to-head gameplay without being able to sneak a glance at your competitor and see what they’re

Transformer 2 gets a live demo, announcement coming November 9th

Image
Speaking at the AsiaD conference earlier today, Asus’ chairman Jonney Shih laid out the company’s plans for ultrabooks and tablets for the next few months. After showing off the oh-so shiny Zenbook UX31, Shih pulled out yet another goody from his briefcase: the elusive EEE Pad Transformer 2. Shih noted that the tablet market, and in particular Android, will be a big part of the company’s mobile strategy for the coming year. We’ve known for some time that the Transformer 2 is coming, and Asus seems delighted to tease consumers with the successor to one of the most well-received Android Honeycomb tablets. Earlier today we saw a promotional video showing of “the next transformation“. Shih confirmed that the Transformer 2 will be using a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, and that the device is an impressively thin 8.3mm. Asus will officially announce the tablet on November 9th. Unfortunately there’s no confirmation on whether or not it’s running Ice Cream Sandwich, but Shih teased that

This appears to be the first place in the world that future users will be able to order the device for ownership, with the Galaxy Tab 10.1-inch iteration having been out on the market in several different versions now for several months. This device will be $399 for the 16GB model and $499 for the 32GB model right out of the gate, both of the devices having the same specifications other than the internal storage difference. This tablet has a 7-inch display with a relatively moderate 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, all of this running on a lovely 1.2GHz dual-core processor. This device will be released with Android 3.2 Honeycomb and has two cameras, one 2 megapixel camera on the front and one 3 megapixel camera on the

iTunes Match toggle shows up in iOS 5 settings

Image
Apple has already launched iOS 5 with the iCloud and the iPhone 4S, but the iTunes Match feature that was promised to also be in tow, still isn’t here. However, today, an on/off toggle for iTunes Match appeared in the iOS 5 Settings app, signaling that the feature is getting closer to launch. Many users have reported seeing the iTunes Match toggle appear in the Music section under the Settings app. That toggle had been available to developers for testing but had disappeared recently only to reappear again today for both developers as well as the general public. But if you’re not a developer and you attempt to toggle-on the service, you’ll receive a message to subscribe via iTunes on your computer. And you’ll then find that the service is labeled “coming soon” on your iTunes. iTunes Match will likely roll out with iTunes 10.5.1, which is still under going beta testing by developers. The service costs $24.99 a year and allows you to sync all your music, including songs not purchase

OmniTouch reminds us of the science fiction future of all things touchscreen [Video]

Image
It’s time again to talk about touchscreens on every surface imaginable, this time through Microsoft Research and Carnegie Mellon University. These groups have brought forth a solution for the age-old first-world problem of how a person who wants dial their phone using only the surface of their hand might do so. The solution is this: OmniTouch, a system that although currently requires the user to wear an obtrusive shoulder-mounted monstrosity to project and collect interfaces and the ways they interact with them, will sometime be as simple as a box of playing-cards-sized device which will work with the user to turn any surface into a touchscreen. This week’s Association for Computing Machinery’s Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology in Santa Barbara California is set to be the place where this project is formally unveiled, it currently combining a laser pico projector and a depth-sensing camera to create images on any surface and the ability to read interactions with th

Lytro Light Field camera pre-orders begin at $399

Image
Lytro, the world’s first light-field camera, made its debut today at an event in San Francisco. The camera records fields of light instead of pixels and allows users to focus after they’ve taken a picture. We’ve talked about the technology behind this camera previously, but this is the first time we’ve seen the camera’s unique form factor. While standard digital cameras collect light data into a flattened image comprised of pixels, the Lytro keeps all the information separate. The sensor records color, intensity, and vector direction of all the rays of light and then assembles that information in post-processing. With this technology, users do not need to focus as they’re shooting photos since they can focus on any part of the frame after the image is taken. And since there’s no processing in between shots, it eliminates shutter lag, and even boasts less than a second to power on and start shooting. The Lytro comes in a small pocketable form factor resembling a kaledoscope. It me

NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor promotional video leaks

Image
It’s time to see our first advertisement-based demonstration of the capabilities of what was up until now simply called Project Kal-El, NVIDIA’s next-level chip for mobile devices. This promotional video shows off a few key points NVIDIA hopes to put forth in regards to the awesomeness of having FOUR CPU cores in a single chip sitting on a tablet-like device, though the transparent nature of the device in this video might have you scratching your head wondering where all the metal went. Have a bit of fun watching what appears very much to be the first look at get at what NVIDIA has decided to call no simpler a name than NVIDIA Tegra 3. For those of you that don’t know, the world’s first mobile super chip, that being the first dual-core processor sitting on a smartphone, was the NVIDIA Tegra 2. Internationally, this chip first sat on the LG Optimus 2X which eventually became the T-Mobile G2x here in the states, and the first smartphone here in the states with a dual core, the Motorola

Verizon gets Galaxy Nexus exclusive

Image
Up until last night, the rumor mill for the new Samsung device Galaxy Nexus was equaled only by the recently squashed notion of the iPhone 5 – all that’s changed, but one point remains up in the air: will Verizon get the exclusive here in the USA? The answer appears to have come at first in a post from just a few hours ago showing the device complete with a Verizon 4G LTE logo emblazoned on the back of the device. So we’re sure it’s coming to Verizon, at least – then just moments ago we’ve been tipped by a mister Matthew D.L. about an answer he received to the same question we’re asking here – will anyone else get this device, the first Android with Ice Cream Sandwich? According the official Samsung Mobile USA Facebook page and answered by a Samsung representative apparently named “Samsung Janel”, Verizon will indeed be offering the Galaxy Nexus “with the initial release” and furthermore “other carriers may support this device in the near future.” We’re guessing this means that there

Netflix Android app now supports Honeycomb

Image
The Netflix app for Android has finally updated with official support for Honeycomb tablets. Users have been able to access Netflix on Android tablets via work-arounds for some time now, but today’s version 1.5 update adds official support and extends video streaming to Canada and Latin America. Back in September, Netflix had updated its app to support all Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices. Prior to that, the app only supported a very limited selection of Android devices. More recently, some Honeycomb tablets have begun shipping with Netflix preloaded and those tablets include the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 and the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet.

New Mac Trojan virus disables OS X anti-malware

Image
According to internet and computer security research firm F-Secure, there’s a new Mac Trojan virus making the rounds. The virus has been labeled as OSX/Flashback.C and attacks by disabling the updater component of XProtect, which is OS X’s built-in anti-malware protection. The virus first decrypts the paths of the XProtectUpdater plist files and unloads the XProtectUpdater daemon. It then overwrites the XProtectUpdater files with a blank character and also overwrites the plist and binary for the XProtectUpdater. This process wipes out certain files and prevents XProtect from automatically receiving updates in the future. This makes your computer vulnerable to future attacks since definitions cannot be updated. Although it’s common for viruses to attempt to disable anti-malware safeguards, this may be the first Mac-oriented malware that targets XProtect.

ASUS Eee Pad Transfomer may be first Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet

Image
ASUS has confirmed that its popular Eee Pad Transformer tablet as well as its upcoming Transformer 2 would both be getting the just announced Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update very soon. Considering how quickly ASUS updated to Honeycomb 3.2 following its release, this early confirmation could make the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer the first tablet to run Ice Cream Sandwich. At last night’s unveiling event, the interface was only demoed on the Galaxy Nexus, so it’ll be interesting to see how smoothly it transitions on to the larger tablet screen now that the platform has been designed to run on smartphones, tablets, and likely Google TV, although that was not specifically mentioned. Google’s head of Mobile, Andy Rubin, has already confirmed that the Ice Cream Sandwich update would roll out a couple weeks after the Galaxy Nexus, which is planned for an early November launch. That leaves a possible update in the December or early 2012 time frame as confirmed for the Motorola DROID RAZR

5 Reasons to Ditch Your Android for an iPhone

Image
There’s a lot of hype surrounding the iPhone. You may wonder why all the commotion. After all, it’s just a phone, right? Wrong. The iPhone is more than a phone; for some, it’s more like a friend, a personal assistant, or even a loved one. If you’ve been carrying the Android around, thinking about how great it is and wondering to yourself how much better a smart phone could possibly be, then you may want to come over to the other side – at least just to see what you are missing out on. You don’t have to run out and trade your Android for an iPhone just yet – at least not until you’ve read this. Here are five reasons to ditch your Android for an iPhone. Upgrade Abilities Whether or not Android operating systems will work for you is completely dependent on the make and model of your phone. That means your phone’s upgrade-ability is somewhat like a lottery: either you luck out or you don’t. With the iPhone, you know that when an upgrade comes out, it will definitely apply to y
