Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Android tablet will come in LTE version

Image
Samsung seems intent on offering a tablet in just about every size that consumers might want. It has the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab, a smaller 7-inch version and the 8.9-inch Tab crossed the FCC not long ago. We know that many of the tablets that are coming to market in the next few months will be packing LTE technology inside since LTE networks will be rolled out by several carriers. Word has surfaced that a LTE version of the 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab will be coming. That isn’t that big a deal for folks like me that are far away from an LTE coverage area and are likely facing years before LTE comes to their area. Even if you don’t have LTE access, the Tab 8.9 will reportedly get a boost in some key specs in LTE flavor. One of the bumps is a faster processor according to reports. The LTE version will get a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and will run Android 3.2 for the operating system. The Tab 8.9 will also feature a 3MP camera, a 1280 x 800 resolution 8.9-inch screen, and will weigh 455g. The table

Google sends Street View trikes down Amazon and Rio Negro rivers

Image
Google is set to tackle some of the least populated places on earth with its Street View trikes. Google will be sending the trike down the Rio Negro and Amazon River strapped to a raft. I would hate to be the Google worker tasked with that job. The Amazon River is well known for all sorts of vicious animals like piranha and all sorts of other things. Google wants to document the Amazon so we can explore from our computers. The trikes will also head down the Rio Negro as well. The project will be a collaboration between the Brazilian and US Street View teams. In the first phase of the project, the Street view boats will head down a 31-mile section of the Rio Negro River and the images will be 360-degree views. The Google Earth outreach teams and the Amazonas Sustainable Foundations (FAS) are participating in the project. Google will later send the boats down the Amazon and along trials through the rainforest. I guess we won’t see any Street View pranks along the river or trials in the A

Cineskates are like rollerblades for your camera

Image
Photographers and videographers are creative sorts that are always looking for new things they can do to make their video and photos more artistic. This leads many people to look for new lenses and filters. A new system for holding your camera has surfaced on Kickstarter and it will add some interesting new capabilities to your photos and video. The system is called Cineskates. The Cineskates system was added to Kickstarter this week seeking $20,000 in start up money. In only a few days, the guy behind the Cineskates system, Justin Jensen, reached his goal and then some. The system has $71,908 pledged so far and he still has 49 days to go before the project funds on October 14. Cineskates are a system that works along with the GorillaPod Focus articulating tripod with the Ballhead X. The Cineskates wheels attach to the bottom of that tripod and allow the shooter to align the wheels and then the camera can be slid and spun around. The system has a patent pending and will sell for roughl

Video of DARPA’s failed second HTV-2 flight surfaces

Image
We have talked about the DARPA HTV-2 hypersonic glider that has been in testing before. The goal of the program is to be able to create a weapon that can strike anywhere on the planet within a few hours. The first test flight resulted in the loss of the HTV-2 about nine minutes into the flight and the aircraft was never found. Thesecond test flight failed in the same phase of the flight. The second failure was further into the flight and was caused by different issues than the first flight failure according to DARPA. DARPA reportedly had 22 different stations along the flight path of the HTV-2 to collect data on the flight and oddly, when the flight was lost the only video came from a handheld camcorder used on the deck of one of the monitoring vessels by a crewmember. The video you can see below shows the aircraft as the third stage booster releases the craft. According to DARPA, the flight was stable and controlled at Mach 20 for three minutes before the anomaly occurred. That is lon

Planet orbiting distant pulsar may be a giant diamond

Image
A crazy planet has been discovered orbiting a distant pulsar star that is roughly 4,000 light years away from Earth. What makes this planet so insane and exotic is that astronomers think the planet may be in large part a huge diamond. I guess Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star had it right after all. The new planet is far denser than any other known planet and is made largely of carbon according to astronomers. The astronomers think that the diamond planet is likely the remains of a star that was massive long ago and had its outer layers stripped away by the pulsar it closely orbits. The orbit of the planet takes it so close to the pulsar that it orbits every two hours and ten minutes. The tight orbit would put it and the pulsar it circles inside our own sun. The diamond planet has slightly more mass than Jupiter, but is 20 times as dense. Scientists admit that they have no idea what the planet would look like up close. One scientist named Ben Stappers from the University of Manchester says

URWERK UR-1001 pocket watch may be the coolest watch ever

Image
I am not a watch guy; I leave that to Vince and Ewdi. I can say that the coolest watch I have seen in a long, long time has surfaced from URWERK and it’s called the UR-1001 Zeit Device. This is a pocket watch, not a watch that you wear on the wrist. Just a glance at the face and you can tell that the watch is insanely complex on the inside with a mechanical movement that times way more than just hours, minutes, seconds, and months. A little black metal flap on the back flips down to show you a tall counter that will count down the next 1000 years! I guess you can pass this thing down for the next ten generations of your family if you want. There is also a dial on the back for 100 years and a dial for oil change. That last one is very strange. The oil change shows when the watch needs serviced and all the counters reset to zero when they are complete. The coolest part to me is the rotating spires for the month that spin to show three months at a time. The price and availability for this

If Jaba lived on Hoth, he would rock the Han Solo carbonite ice tray

Image
When I look at this Han Solo carbonite silicone ice tray I can’t help but wonder why. Why do I not have one of these. Put some grape juice or other dark juice in this and you could have your own carbonite solo floating in your punch bowl. This would be perfect for your punch bowl during your Star Wars Blu-ray viewing party. The tray has space for six little cubes and one larger cube of ice. I can only assume that large cube is for a punch bowl, or a really, really big glass. The tray comes by way of a Japanese company called Kotobukiya. You can order the tray up right now and it is even on sale. The tray goes for $13.50 and if you want a different style, you can also get R2-D2 trays too. These are the ice trays you are looking for. If they only had a Death Star punch bowl to go with these it would make for the perfect geek party.

GM and LG announce plans for joint EV development

Image
The costs to develop a new product like an electric car are astronomical and the risk of failure is not insignificant. This is the reason you see major companies joining forces to develop new platforms and systems in the automotive and other markets. Recently Ford and Toyota announced plans to jointly develop a new hybrid platform. These partnerships help to distribute the costs and risks of development between more companies making it more affordable and less risky for one firm trying to go alone. The latest partnership in the automotive world is between GM and LG. The two firms have announced that they will be jointly developing EVs. LG has previously been the battery supplier for the Chevrolet Volt and the Opel Ampera extended range EVs. Both of those vehicles are under the GM umbrella. The agreement will help GM expand the number and type of EVs that it makes and sells and allow the integration of LG tech in battery and other EV systems. For LG the move allows it to expand its reac

Insulin pump hacker discloses company that makes hacked device

Image
Back at the beginning of the month, I mentioned the hacker at Black Hat conference that was able to hack an insulin pump to make the device show incorrect readings. At the time the hack was announced, the hacker didn’t tell what brand the pump he hacked was. The hacker, Jerome Radcliffe, went to the company and now says that the company belittled the security flaw and didn’t take the research seriously. In light of the fact that the maker apparently does not intend to secure the device, Radcliffe has announced that Medtronic makes the pump he was able to hack. The hacker gave up the name of the company at a press conference on August 25. Medtronic is one of the largest medical device makers in the world and makes all sorts of devices including critical life saving devices like pacemakers and defibrillators. The pump that the company makes is called the Paradigm and affected models include the 512, 522, 712, and 722. All of those models are susceptible to the hack that Radcliffe created

Patent bill doesn’t provide meaningful alternatives to litigation

Image
It’s not hard to see that the patent system in the US needs a major overhaul. Patents have been issued that are so obvious and wide reaching that it seems anything made today violates one patent or another. The Senate is set to start working on a bill in early September to reform the patent system. Sadly, Reuters reports that the bill does very little to actually reform the patent process. The Senate will vote on September 6 to take up the patent bill that the House passed in June. The bill is expected to pass the House and end up on Obama’s desk where it appears he will sign it into a law. The thing is the bill offers no meaningful alternative to litigation. One part of the bill allows the patent office to set its own fees in hopes that the ability will allow it to clear the backlog of applications. I can only assume that means the fees will increase significantly in hopes that it would discourage people from filing. The reality is that will only keep the little guys from filing. Tech

OWC outs cheap 60GB SSD called the Mercury Electra 6G

Image
SSDs are getting ever more popular as the price comes down and the storage capacity goes up. OWC has announced a new SSD that it says is one of the cheapest around at $129.99 for a 60GB device. That isn’t enough storage for most of us, but it would make a very nice boot drive if you have more storage to put in. I can tell you from experience that even loading most software to a bulk storage drive, 60GB will fill up very quickly. The new SSD uses a SandForce controller and supports the SATA 6Gb/s port. OWC also claims to use the highest quality components it can get hands on with tier 1, grade A NAND and that shows with the claimed read and write speeds of the SSD. OWC claims that the little SSD can deliver 556MB/s reads and 523MB/s writes. The SSDs will work with PC or Mac computers. The SSD is also offered in other capacities as well if you need something larger than 60GB. Also available are 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB storage drives. The drives use ECC and SandForce RAISE technology insi

Major Panasonic Lumix LX5 Firmware Update Coming Soon

Image
If you’re part of the mobile world, especially if you’re dealing with something like Android, you know that any update, no matter how insignificant, to your hardware can get pretty exciting. Imagine the excitement then that owners of the Panasonic Lumix LX5 are feeling when they hear their fabulous camera is about to be upgraded with a sweet, sweet firmware upgrade. Panasonic has announced that the Lumix DMC-LX5 will be getting a firmware update on September 13, 2011, one that will optimize the camera’s performance and will bump the image quality of the photos and video the camera can capture. What Panasonic has come up with here, along with about a billion other pieces of news today, if you did not know, is a performance upgrade including autofocus algorithms derived directly from Panasonic’s Light Speed autofocus system for improved AF speed. In addition to this, the upgrade will furthermore augment image stabilization with Active Mode from the sweetness of Power OIS, all this for ex

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX90 Wi-Fi Touchscreen Camera Official

Image
What’s better than a sweet little high quality camera that fits in your pocket that you can rely on to bring you a lovely yet compact experience daily? That same thing with Wi-Fi connection capabilities. Then add the fact that it’s got a touchscreen on the back – oh man, now you’re just talking crazy. Not actually – this is a real device, and it’s called the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX90. This camera is rated at 12 megapixels, is just 0.85 inches deep, and can connect to the internet wirelessly. But it doesn’t look ultra strange as you’d expect such an innovative product to look, does it, it just looks sorta normal. Newness fills its innards, however, and the aesthetic appeal certainly is at a peak – would you mind carrying around such a device? This device will allow you to upload (should you have a connected Wi-Fi signal) photos and video to YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, and Picassa. No word at the moment on if we’ll be able to work with other online repositories for media like Google+, for

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 Official

Image

This camera is rated at 12 megapixels, has 24x optical zoom, and is one of the first cameras on the market to support AVCHD Progressive video recording. Panasonic LUMIX GF3X Official: a full 14-42 kit upgrade from earlier July release

Image
What we’ve known since the Panasonic LUMIX GF3 became official is many things. The first of these things was that this device was 7.83oz light, the second being that it shoots at 12.1 megapixels and 1080/60i Full HD video, and that it’d be the smallest most awesome camera on the block despite its fantastic abilities. The third thing we knew right from the start is that this camera would be released twice, once in July of 2011 with a 14mm lens for $699.99, then a second time as a completely different kit with a 14-42mm lens in August for $599.99. Guess what? That time has come. As you may already know, we certainly enjoy Lumix. Our review of the LUMIX DMC-GF2 should be evidence enough of that. What we’re pretty dern excited to hear about today is that the lens we spoke about in the first piece of this post will be coming out both on its own and as part of a kit which will upgrade the name of the GF3 to a much more hardcore GF3X. This camera is capable of recording 1920 x 1080 Full High

Panasonic Lumix X Series Include New Compact 14-42 and 45-175mm Lens Kits

Image
The good camera folk at Panasonic have announced today their intent to release a new set of lenses, the first of which takes the size of its previously bulky 14-42mm Micro Four Thirds zoom lens and smashes it down to half the size – while closed. This new LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm is a lens kit that takes the previous generation, that being the same f/3.5-5.6 aperture range and same zoom capabilities, but puts it in a housing that, while closed, is less than half the size, and while extended is also noticeably smaller than its predecessor – cut the bulk out! This first lens is a kit option in your DMC-GF3X model Panasonic camera, a camera we’re also receiving information on today. This is only the first of two new X-series lenses coming out from Panasonic – the second hits the 45-175mm range.

Apple’s Newest Intern is also iOS’ Greatest Hacker

Image
When it comes to Apple’s mobile platform iOS, this operating system running on the ultra-successful iPhone and iPad as well as iPod Touch, there’s a certain word that represents the illegal hacking of the ecosystem: Jailbreaking. When it comes to Jailbreaking, aka beating Apple’s security barriers and editing Apple’s code as one sees fit, Comex is the man. His site JailbreakMe.com famously made breaking into your iDevice as easy as visiting a website – and he’s announced today that he’s joining the Apple team as their newest intern. As any writer at Forbes will tell you, Comex is simply the username of a 19-year-old Brown University student by the name of Nicholas Allegra. He hails from Chappaqua, New York, USA, and has described Jailbreaking as “like editing an English paper… You just go through and look for errors. I don’t know why I seem to be so effective at it.” As a simple search for the name Comex in our SlashGear archives will tell you a brief but epic story of how JailbreakMe

HTC Omega first press image leaked

Image
The first press image for an upcoming Windows Phone 7 Mango handset called the HTC Omega has just leaked. This is likely one of the devices planned for unveiling at HTC’s press event on September 1. The event is rumored to also reveal another Mango handset called the HTC Eternity. The HTC Omega will come in a white and silver color combination with an aluminum construction and could possibly be called the HTC Radar when it is released on a carrier. It is believed to feature a 3.8-inch SLCD display, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 single-core processor, 512MB RAM, DLNA compatibility, and micro-HDMI output. Additionally, it’s rumored to have an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and a front-facing camera that could mean Skype integration for video chat. The other rumored device called the HTC Eternity hasn’t turned up in photos yet but is believed to be a higher-end model with a larger 4.7-inch AMOLED display.

Why the iPhone 4S will be Free

Image
Here’s the skinny: the following information is a set of educated guesses, analyzed facts turned into what I feel will be exactly what Apple will release at their next major keynote event as far as mobile devices go. First, I do not think that the device will have a “5″ in the title. Although it’s been an eternity in human time since the last iPhone release, that being the iPhone 4 for Verizon, in Apple time it’s only been nearly enough time before the next massively successful release. What I believe here instead is that all four of the biggest carriers in the USA will get the newest version of the iPhone inside October of 2011 and that this device will hold more water than just hardware improvements. First, starting right around the time we heard Verizon’s then incoming CEO say he expected the iPhone 5 to be released in the fall, it became apparent that inside 2011 there’d be some sort of iPhone or another. At the moment I believe that when Lowell McAdam literally said “iPhone 5″, he

Fossil Meta Watch, hackable timepiece visits FCC

Image
The Fossil Meta Watch was first shown off by HP at an event back in March and later pegged for a July release. But it has since faced several delays, most recently pushed back to September 2 for Hong Kong, with a date for the US still uncertain. But today, the watch has passed through the FCC, which signals that the wait shouldn’t be much longer. The Meta Watch features a touchscreen that can display information and updates synced via Bluetooth from your other mobile devices, such as your phone or tablet. The watch uses TI’s MSP430 microcontroller and comes with its own hacker-friendly open source SDK/API. This allows developers to customize what information gets displayed. The watch has a water resistant stainless steel casing, leather strap, and mineral glass crystal display with 3-axis accelerometer, vibration motor and ambient light sensor inside. It’s available in both a digital and an analog version with the digital version having a 96 x 96 reflective display and the analog versi

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Gameplay Demo Revealed [Video]

Image
The massively epic story of Ezio, an Italian assassin whose story will be completed here in the third of three Assassin’s Creed video game, is today revealed in video form. What we get to see today is a game that starts with a chariot race and fight, the finale of which leaves Ezio busted and near death having has his cart thrown down the side of a mountain, his crash and climb up leaving him without the ability to free-run or turn walls to walkways. You’re playing a very similar game to the last Creed game, but you’re certainly not starting your journey as the assassin with a full deck of cards. The graphics and gameplay, on the other hand, are top notch. Enter the Director’s Cut of the Gamescon 2011 gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. And what’s new that you’re sure to get a kick out of is Ezios newfound ability to craft bombs. Ezio must find shells, gunpowder, and all manner of ingredients to to create bombs that have an array of different characteristics. You must al

Microsoft Windows 8 quad-core tablet to be giveaway at Build?

Image
During this week’s Tech Ed event in New Zealand, Microsoft showed off some new devices, including one that is reportedly a Windows 8 quad-core tablet. According to attendee Alan Burchill, who is also an IT consultant and Microsoft Most Valuable Professional, the unnamed slate could be a giveaway at Microsoft’s upcoming Build developer conference in September. Burchill posted to his blog some photos of the tablet being shown off, noting that what was very interesting is that the device was a “Quad Core Windows Slate that will be give[sic] out at an upcoming Microsoft Event.” If true, then the likely upcoming event would be the Build conference where Microsoft is expected to reveal more details on Windows 8 and even possibly handout developer previews or betas. However, ZDNet reports that another Tech Ed New Zealand attendee at the session did not recall any promises of a giveaway and instead believes that Microsoft will only be showcasing the device at Build. Microsoft has not made any

Why I’d Feel Fine Playing Mario & Zelda On the Xbox

Image
If you’ve followed my work here, you know that I’ve been a little tough on Nintendo as of late, saying that the game company is in deep trouble, and by the look of things, doesn’t have a strategy in place to turn things around so quickly. Over the last several weeks, I’ve received some e-mails from folks about Nintendo and my comments on the company. Those folks say that Nintendo will always be a hardware-focused firm, and the very thought of playing its titles on other consoles is a joke. Now, I would agree that Nintendo likely won’t opt to go software-only at any point in the near future. And I would even say that the very idea of playing Mario or Zelda games on another console is laughable. But unlike far too many folks out there, I don’t necessarily have a problem with it. I absolutely love Nintendo games. I’ve always enjoyed playing Mario titles and I still look back fondly at the multiple times I played through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I have the same love for the Me

Apple iPad to control tablet market until 2013

Image
Research firm IHS iSuppli has revised their forecast for media tablets, now pegging Apple’s control of the tablet market to continue through 2013. With tablet competitors like Android continuing to struggle and the recentsurrender of the webOS-based HP TouchPad tablet, Apple is taking advantage of the situation by increasing its iPad shipments at a faster rate than expected. Apple is expected to ship 44.2 million iPads in 2011, which is higher than the previous forecast of 43.7 million. The forecast for iPad shipments in 2015 has also been increased to 120.1 million units, up from the previous outlook of 97.9 million. As for market share in media tablet shipments, Apple is expected to account for 74 percent in 2011 and 43.6 percent in 2015, up from the previous predictions of 64 percent in 2011 and 32 percent in 2015. Overall, global media tablet shipments are expected to rise 60 million units in 2011 and soar to 275.3 million units in 2015. That estimate for 2015 is a 13.2 million inc

Samsung Galaxy S II Verizon Model Possibly Axed

Image
It appears that the largest network in the United States will not be carrying the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S IIsmartphone, a flagship device for the manufacturer and one of the best selling phones in the world at the moment. As the Wall Street Journal reports, having spoken with “people familiar with the plans,” each of the other “big four” carriers will be carrying the device inside September, blue, yellow, and pink being the lot of them, but apparently Verizon has declined to move forward with the Samsung dual-core device. Samsung’s Kim Titus has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S II would indeed be unveiled in the USA next week, but declined to comment any further on the group’s plans for carriers. With a gigantic batch of alternate Samsung devices soon to be released at IFA 2011, we’ve got to guess that Verizon will continue to lead with Samsung’s DROID Charge as it runs on their 4G LTE network as well as some future Galaxy devices, perhaps the Galaxy R, for example, a “Premium” ve

Facebook Photo Filters Coming Soon

Image
If there’s one thing that Zuckerberg hates, it’s Instagram. Actually I’m pretty sure he’s not the least vengeful fellow in the bunch, but at the moment it appears that one of the groups Facebook is about to take on is, indeed, the photo filtering group itself. If you’re a frequenter of Facebook, and if you’re reading this article I must assume that you are, you know that one of the most popular activities on the social networking site is sharing photos. Over the past couple of years since the mobile smartphone device really started to pick up, these photos have become more and more prevalent as well as more and more skillfully shot – this depends entirely on who your friends are, of course. One thing that I, the people I know, and I’m sure you have noticed is the upturn of photos with odd filters having been put over them. Facebook sees this trend and knows. What one of the most popular photo filtering apps on the market today is called is Instagram. Back on the 3rd of August, 2011, we

Google Maps gets Voice Search on Chrome browser for desktops

Image
Google has just updated its Google Maps service with voice search capabilities. This feature has been available for its mobile interface for awhile now where getting directions hands-free is perhaps more significant. Nonetheless, if you are too lazy to type on your full keyboard while in front of your desktop, you now have the option to just speak. But for now, the feature for Google Maps will only work when accessed via the Chrome web browser. A small blue microphone icon appears in the search bar and lets you speak to search. For some, this will be less a convenience of not having to type and more of a solution when a place name is difficult to spell. Google gives the examples “Poughkeepsie” and “Liechtenstein.” The voice search feature has been available on Android devices as well as through Google’s iOS app with the desktop version being unleashed more recently. Back in June, the feature was announced for desktops along with a new search by image feature similar to Google Goggles.

Verizon Brings Intuit GoPayment Smartphone Credit Card Reader Hardware to the Masses

Image
Now this certainly isn’t the first time we’ve seen a credit card reader on a smartphone, that’s for sure, anyone whose been in an Apple store in the past year or so will tell you how odd (yet awesome) it feels to have the sales counter literally be every Apple rep in the store, but what Verizon is providing here is a wholly new vision of the concept. What this “free” credit card hardware represents is an inexpensive way for everyone with a smartphone or tablet to get their hands on the ability to accept payments anywhere and at any time. Have the folks at Verizon lost their mind, giving this solution away for free, or have they hit the nail on the head? The device you see above is working on an HTC ThunderBolt, the world’s first 4G LTE device carried by Verizon, an Android device that we’ve reviewed at length and have enjoyed for many months in the past. I’m not sure this device will resurrect our love of one of HTC’s greatest hits, but as the Intuit credit card reader plugs into the a

GameStop pulls Deus Ex from store shelves after OnLive controversy

Image
GameStop has completely yanked the PC version of the Deus Ex: Human Revolution game title from its store shelves following the OnLive controversy. The game retailer had come under fire after it was revealed and then comfirmed that the company was opening up boxes of the Deus Ex game to remove coupons from cloud-gaming competitor OnLive. The boxed PC version of the Deux Ex: Human Revolution game was prepackaged with a coupon from OnLive that gave customers a free online version of the game to encourage customers to try the OnLive cloud-based gaming platform. When GameStop discovered this, they issued a memo to employees asking them to remove this coupon. Many gamers wanting to purchase the title and to receive the coupon were outraged at GameStop. However, the publisher behind Deus Ex, Square Enix, has issued a statement in support of GameStop’s decision. Their statement reads: “As part of Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s boxed offering on PC, Square Enix included a third-party coupon. GameS

Motorola XOOM 4G LTE upgrade begins with pilot group next week

Image
Motorola’s long promised 4G LTE upgrade for the 3G XOOM tablet looks set for a September deployment. The time frame was confirmed by Motorola in an email to customers back in July and now they’ve sent out a new email, revealing that the upgrade process will kick off early for business and government XOOM customers. Apparently, they will function as a “pilot” program for the upgrade process before it’s rolled out to the masses. The upgrade is free to existing 3G Motorola XOOM customers and will require owners to ship in their devices to Motorola for the LTE component to be installed. You will only be eligible for the upgrade once you get an email with the upgrade directions. Within a couple of days after receiving the email you will also receive a package containing a step-by-step guide and a FedEx box with prepaid label for shipping your XOOM. The process could wipe out all the data on your device, so it is recommended to backup everything. Motorola has also promised to unveil two new

Samsung Galaxy tablet ban remains in Germany until at least September 9

Image
Samsung and Apple are still fighting it out in Europe over the Galaxy Tablet and other Samsung smartphones. Apple claims Samsung is copying its gear and Samsung denies the fact. Samsung had asked German courts of a ruling on the Galaxy tablet ban ahead of IFA kicking off next week. That ruling will not come. The German court has left the ban in place until at least September 9. At that point, Samsung may get the ruling on whether or not it can sell the Galaxy tablet line inside the country, a loss will prove very costly for Samsung since it would mean damages and licensing fees paid to Apple. Samsung can’t be happy about the ban keeping it out of IFA, which is one of the largest tech shows in Europe. The judge on the case has stated that there are overarching similarities between the two tablets. Apple has long maintaining that Samsung “slavishly” copies its products. Samsung still denies that. Samsung recently saw itsGalaxy smartphones banned in Europe as well.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy Note, and Wave 3 revealed by Unpacked app

Image
Samsung may have inadvertently revealed three of its upcoming products when they released their Samsung Mobile Unpacked teaser app on Android Market. The app is meant to reveal Samsung news and events as they develop at next week’s IFA 2011, which is the largest consumer electronics show in Europe and takes place in Berlin, Germany from September 2 to 7. The app delivers exclusive early access news on Samsung’s events and locations for IFA, including official press releases and even the ability to stream live video of the major Samsung press events. A tipster of Thisismynext, dug around the app’s APK and discovered three logo images for a Galaxy Tab 7.7, a Galaxy Note, and a Wave 3. The Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet isn’t a surprise since it makes sense that Samsung would follow up its Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 tablets and it will most certainly run a version of Android Honeycomb. The Wave 3 is expected to be a smartphone running Samsung’s latest Bada OS, and we’ve seen teaser video for it in re
