X Factor Judging Saga Continues

Image
There has still been no official announcement since Cheryl Cole was apparently fired from the X Factor judging panel two weeks ago, and this weekend it looked like Cole could be heading back to the US after there were reports that she had been offered her old job back. This however doesn't seem to be the case now and this dramatic about turn from Fox executives could all have been a power play to get Cole to relinquish her $1.5 million fee. So what exactly is going on behind the scenes of this not even aired show? Well what we do is that it was reported in the media but not confirmed from either Fox or Cole's camp that the singer had been let go from the judging panel of the X Factor and co-host Nicole Scherzinger would be taking over the role. The reasons for Cole's sacking ranged from her accent being an issue and that she had no chemistry with Paula Abdul. Cole then reportedly flew home to the UK where she hasn't been seen out in public since. At the same time as t

Teen Wolf Review: Not Your Daddy's Teen Wolf...

Image
teen wolfWhen news of an updated version of the 1986 Michael J. Fox cult hit Teen Wolf was headed to MTV, there was a collective grown in the blogosphere. However, once word got out that the material for the new show was taking a darker path this go around, those groans were replaced with a peaked interest on just how dark the show could become. Last fall, several critics and journalists were treated to a look of MTV's new horror dramedy starring Tyler Posey as Scott McCall, the unlucky (lucky?) teen cursed with ability to howl at the moon and grow hair in several unwanted places. The unfinished presentation wasn't all that bad. There were areas that clearly needed work and I am not talking about the missing CGI/make-up effects either. And by watching tonight's premiere, I can say that changes were made in some areas... but not a lot. One thing is for sure, this is not the Teen Wolf your father grew up on... Since you probably have seen the show already, I will bypass

DVD Review - Transformers: Beast Wars, The Complete Series

Image
I remember the good old days, when I was oblivious of any Transformers storylines and the robots in disguise were just really awesome toys. But then, years after I'd gotten rid of all my toys, I watched the Transformers movie and was shocked at how much Michael Bay had ruined those toys for me with his orgy of robots fighting and causing explosions. Taking that into account of my disdain for the animation of ReBoot, I was really skeptical going into Transformers: Beast Wars. The CGI of the 1990s has always been a bit dark to me. Maybe that's because it all seems really lifeless; the eyes are dead, the facial expressions minimal. For the technology available at the time, the animation isn't bad, but by today's standards it doesn't even come close to fitting the bill. But Beast Wars, which came a few years after ReBoot (which was animated by the same people), is a step in the right direction. It's an interesting relic of now ancient animation. The storyline is

Robert Pattinson Drops F-Bomb at MTV Movie Awards

Image
It happens all the time. Melissa Leo did it at the Oscars, Jenny Slate did it on Saturday Night Live, and now Robert Pattinson has done it at the MTV Movie Awards. That's right, on Sunday night's broadcast of the awards show, Robert Pattinson dropped the F-bomb, and it slipped through the censors. While presenting a career achievement award to actress Reese Witherspoon (a career achievement award? She's 35!), his co-star in the film Water for Elephants, Pattinson remarked on the irony that he had once played her son in the 2004 film Vanity Fair. "This time, I f***ed you," he said, and millions of Twilight fan girls watching from the east coast giggled in disbelief.* It was a busy awards ceremony for Pattinson; he also smooched Eclipse co-star Taylor Lautner on the lips (no, you read that right), and, probably provocatively, told co-star Kristen Stewart that he wanted to "take [her] backstage." Pattinson's faux pas will probably be talked about

Game of Thrones: What Does Syrio Forel Say to the God of Death?

Image
I just can't decide whether Syrio Forel is dead or not. It's a relatively minor question in the Game of Thrones mythology, granted. The more pressing questions for the show's audiences are probably "Will Joffrey have Ned executed?" or "Will Robb win his battle against Tywin Lannister?" And while I could answer those for you, I'll just let you wait until next week's episode, "Baelor," to find out (by the way, if there's an episode of this series not to miss, it's "Baelor"). I'm more interested in discussing the questions that haven't been answered in the books yet. Syrio's fate is one of those questions. We followed Arya's perspective during the first scenes of the series, but she doesn't know if Syrio fell victim to the sword of Ser Maryn Trant or if he escaped -- she was too busy escaping herself. It's natural that she doesn't find out if Syrio's dead; she's running through dar

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Trailer Airs at MTV Movie Awards

Image
This is the moment about one million Twilight fans have been waiting for: the trailer for Breaking Dawn, Part 1. The trailer for Breaking Dawn aired during tonight's MTV Movie Awards, which is one of the few awards shows the Twilight movies every dominate. Breaking Dawn, Part 1 will be released on November 18, 2011, while Part 2 will be released November 16, 2012. Part 1 focuses on the wedding of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, which is primarily what the movie trailer that aired during the MTV Movie Awards focuses on. After the ceremony, the newlyweds head to Rio de Janeiro for their honeymoon. There, they finally have sex. Why is this such a big deal? Well, it's all kind of ridiculous, frankly, but Edward was afraid he'd break Bella if they had sex while she was human. Of course, she still is human during the honeymoon, so I'm not entirely certain how they're going to sanitize the rather graphic bedroom scene for a PG-13 audience. Soon, Bella learns that

New Super 8 Trailer Premieres at MTV Movie Awards

Image
This is the movie I'm probably most excited about this summer. Directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg, Super 8 reminds me of those Spielberg adventure movies from my childhood. The movie takes place in the fictional town of Lillian, Ohio in 1979. A group of teenagers are making a monster movie with a Super 8 mm film. One night, while filming out by the tracks, they witness a train crash. Something escapes the damaged train. Soon, mysterious things happen around the town: disappearances and other unexplained events. The local deputy, played by Kyle Chandler, begins to investigate what's going on in the town and eventually learns that something inhuman is terrorizing the town. Details of Super 8 have been kept to a minimum, as J.J. Abrams likes to do with his movies. But a few trailers have been released (including one during the Super Bowl). Another premiered during tonight's MTV Movie Awards, which we have for you below. Super 8 will be relea

Game of Thrones Promo: Episode 9 “Baelor”

Image
War is coming to Game of Thrones in the June 12 episode. Given what happened in the most recnt episode, that should not be surprising. Ned Stark is now imprisoned in the dungeons. The Lannisters are in full control of King's Landing. After Stark was captured, Lannister soldiers were sent to seize his daughters. Arya managed to escape, but Sansa was brow-beaten into following the orders of Cersei and her allies. She wrote to her brother Robb to let him know that their father is now being held for treason. News of King Robert's death and Ned's charges of treason spread quickly. Catelyn heard of it while still visiting with her sister Lysa, who refused to offer her soldiers to help Cat and Ned. Robb heard of it in Winterfell and has decided to round up his own army of his father's allies and march to King's Landing to face the Lannisters and try to save his father. Even Jon Snow heard of it while at The Wall and wants to leave in order to help his family.

DVD Review - The Royal Wedding: William and Catherine

Image
I didn't feel terribly sentimental about the Royal Wedding. I could recognize that Kate Middleton was very beautiful, but beyond that I didn't really care to listen to all the hubbub surrounding the massive event, which occurred on April 29. It was nice for them, I thought, but I wasn't particularly invested in their wedding (after all, it was theirs, not mine). I didn't watch it when it aired on BBC America. In fact, I only watched it for the first time recently, when preparing to review the DVD release that's occurring on Tuesday (6/7). Of course, this DVD is only going to be bought by the people who watched the wedding live. It's intended for the historians and the anglophiles, and those who wish to have a little slice of history preserved on DVD. More moderate fans of the Royals might be asking is, "Is it worth the buy?" I'd actually say yes. There's nothing here that didn't air on the television back in April. In fact, it's th

Will Charlie Sheen Be Killed Off Two and a Half Men?

Image
One big question that's been swirling around ever since Ashton Kutcher was hired as the new star of Two and a Half Men is exactly how Charlie Sheen will transition off. Obviously Sheen won't be coming in for a guest role to wrap up the role of Charlie Harper, so how exactly will the show accomplish getting rid of him? One theory is that they'll kill him off. That's not what's going to happen, Bang Hollywood is reporting. Though that was a popular theory, it seems that Sheen's character is simply moving to Paris. It seems to fit; in Sheen's final scenes as Harper, he leaves for the airport with his stalker Rose, to whom he intends to propose. That might just be the last we see of him on Men, ever. The next season of the series will simply mention that Charlie and Rose decided to stay in Paris, leaving the house to Alan and Jake... though we know that they won't be alone in that house for very long. Sheen was fired from the show after feuding with exec

The Walking Dead Season 2 Is Casting Three New Characters!

Image
In the comic book series The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes and his band of survivors never traveled to the CDC. Rick's son Carl fatally shot Shane through the neck after Shane threatened Rick at gunpoint over Lori. Merle and Daryl Dixon didn't exist. That's all proof that The Walking Dead TV series is heavily deviating from its source material, and I'm very much okay with that. But it is sticking with the comic books at certain points -- for example, Hershel's farm. For the uninitiated, Hershel's farm is a major setting for the comic for several issues. While the survivors initially think it's safe, it holds a dark secret that will eventually be its undoing. Hershel's farm will introduce at least three new characters to the show, according to a leaked casting call. We've got Hershel, the older man who owns the farm. Then there's Hershel's daughter Maggie, who is in her late teens/early twenties. Maggie will be a romantic interest for one fan

Tonight on Game of Thrones: Episode 8 "The Pointy End"

Image
Last week's episode of Game of Thrones left us with one of the worst cliffhangers since Bran Stark was pushed from the tower back in the premiere. King Robert is dead, his "son" Joffrey is on the throne, and Cersei has managed to climb her way to power in King's Landing. While Ned Stark knows that Cersei's children are not Robert's - but are actually the children of her brother Jamie - he was unable to prevent Joffrey from taking the throne. Now Ned has very few allies left in King's Landing, as one of them (Littlefinger) has turned on him to pursue greener pastures. So what will happen on tonight's episode of Game of Thrones? The promo gives us some clues. The Lannisters: The family has managed to secure control of the throne. Cersei has put her son on it and obviously wields a great deal of power now that Robert is gone and she is the mother of the present king. Tyrion will be seen again after being set free by Cat and her sister. Meanwhil

Steven Moffat Receives Death Threats Over Doctor Who Episode

Image
When you write for a fanbase as dedicated and diverse as Doctor Who, you're going to get a lot of criticism. That's doubly so for showrunner Steven Moffat, who took over the reins of the show in 2010 after Russell T. Davies departed. Moffat's run of the show has been frenzied, fun, and absolutely bonkers, and his writing for the new Doctor (Matt Smith) in my opinion beats Davies' writing for David Tennant. But, as with every show, not everyone thinks the same way I do. In fact, some think much, much differently. With the newest episode of the series, "A Good Man Goes to War," Moffat dropped the bombshell of River Song's true identity, a question he'd been setting up since 2008 when River (Alex Kingston) first appeared in the episode "Silence in the Library." Fans were divided over Moffat's reveal. Some loved it, some really, deeply despised it. Some even sent Moffat threats. "Only one death threat, two demands for my immediate re

Supernatural's Jared Padalecki Joins Twitter; Fandom is Happy

Image
It took six years of Supernatural being on the air before one of its two main stars finally joined the Twitter world.  Today, Jared Padalecki (who plays Sam Winchester on the CW show) confirmed that he's finally gotten himself a Twitter account: @jarpad . The fangirls are, of course, thrilled. While Twitter hasn't officially confirmed the account, The CW's Supernatural Twitter account ( @CW_Supernatural ) confirmed Padalecki's account.  He also announced it at this week's Supernatural convention in Nashville.  After about 24 hours, Padalecki has managed to gather over 42,000 followers.  He was also trending on several Twitter top topics for a while today.  Chances are he'll soon be fighting for Twitter supremacy with co-star Misha Collins. Padalecki isn't the only Supernatural actor to have a Twitter account.  Here's a few more: Misha Collins (Castiel): @mishacollins Jim Beaver (Bobby Singer): @jumblejim Samantha Ferris (Ellen Harvell):

DVD Review - New Tricks, Season 4

Image
For the fourth season of a procedural drama, New Tricks is strangely fresh -- though not really exercising any new tricks of its own. Featuring an all star cast such as Alun Armstrong (Garrow's Law), Dennis Waterman (Circles of Deceit), and Amanda Redman (Little Dorrit), New Tricks is a pretty engrossing cop dramedy. Well, if you subtract the cases themselves, that is. No, the cases that our heroes work to solve each week are lame, swerving threads that ultimately serve to mirror the story of the characters (as most cop shows are able to do), but beyond that do not much else. The premiere episode features a case so utterly convoluted that it's better to just ignore what's happening until the episode returns to the good part. What is the good part I speak of? Why the characters, of course. They're all absolutely fantastic. Sure, they occasionally play into the stereotypical "old man" gimmicks that are expected, but they each have distinct personalities. The

The Walking Dead Season 2: Will We See Merle Again?

Image
It already feels like it's been too long since The Walking Dead graced our screens. After all, it's been seven months since Rick Grimes and the rest of his fellow survivors drew away from an exploding CDC. We're still about four months out from a premiere, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean we're not starting to get a slow trickle of spoilers. One of the biggest open-ended threads of season one was that of Merle, the unlikable hillbilly who Rick handcuffed to the roof of an office building -- and who cut his own hand off to get free. Merle apparently covered quite a lot of distance after he amputated his hand, but just how far he got -- and if he's still alive -- remains a mystery. Earlier this year executive producer Frank Darabont confirmed that Merle would not become the sadistic Governor from the comic books. But will we be seeing Merle again at all, or while he just be a big question mark for the rest of the show? Actor Michael Rooker, who portrayed M
