Neil Armstrong, 1930-2012: One Giant Loss for Mankind

Image
Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon or any other world beyond Earth, died today. The former test pilot and NASA astronaut recently celebrated his 82nd birthday, and underwent heart surgery just weeks ago. He commanded the Apollo 11 spacecraft that landed on the moon on July 20, 1969, and radioed back to Earth the historic line, "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind." He walked on the moon for nearly 3 hours with fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. He died of complications following his cardiac surgery. That's one giant loss for mankind. Godspeed, Sir.

Pakistani actress Mona Lizza in Murder 3

Image
One has to give it to the Bhatts for having a hawk eye in spotting new talent. After featuring Mallika Sherawat and Jacqueline Fernandez in the Murder series, the Bhatts are now all set to introduce a brand new hottie in the third installment of the same. She is a Pakistani beauty who goes by the name Mona Lizza (whose screen name is Sara Loren). For those who are unaware, she is the same girl who made her 'official debut' in Pooja Bhatt's Kajra Re a couple of years ago. News reports have it that Mona was chosen because the Bhatts saw her potential to sizzle up the screen with her sex appeal and they are super confident that she would make the same impact as Mallika and Jacqueline did. There were certain reports in the media that Mona has replaced the film's original lead actress Aditi Rao Hydari. To which, Aditi's manager responded back stating that Aditi is very much the heroine of the film and that she is presently in South Africa shooting for the film. Mukes

Neha Dhupia's item number in SBAG's sequel

Image
If Tigmanshu Dhulia's last flick Saheb Biwi Aur Gangstergave you the thrills, then, its sequel promises to give you more than that. Besides the fact that it has an enticing story, this time round, it also has the gorgeous Neha Dhupia, who will be doing her first item number in Bollywood with this film. Confirming this news, Neha told Apnadesi said that, "Yes, I am doing an item number in the film. But, I cannot tell you anymore details about this." Talking about Neha, the film's producer Rahul Mitrra said that she is a good dancer and that this film will mark her first item number. Even though the film has been shot in Gujarat, the said item number will be shot in Jaipur in September. While lyricist Kausar Munir has penned the song's lyrics, Sandeep Chowta has the song.

Chal Pichchur Banate Hain Music Review

Image
EXPECTATIONS There are hardly any expectations that one carries from the music of  Chal Pichchur Banate Hain . With nothing really heard about the film and the title too suggesting that it is a comedy on the functioning of the film industry, one expects a situational outing that would hardly make any ripples. Not that the final results end up being supremely amazing but still composer Gaurav Dagaonkar along with an assortment of lyricists ensures that there are as many as three melodies that do make a pleasant impact.  MUSIC Gaurav Dagaonkar, who recently created a chartbuster in the form of ' Kaafirana ' [ Joker ], begins the proceedings with ' Copy Paste '. As expected, this is a situational outing where Kailash Kher sings about originality losing its relevance in Bollywood and duplicates/remakes ruling the roost. Anurag Bhomia and Pritish Chakraborty spin some funny lyrics that should make an appearance at various junctures in the film. Overall though the composition

Results would speak for Joker - Shirish Kunder

Image
Though sci-fi film in a village setting seemed rather unimaginable for most in the industry, Akshay Kumar, who had worked with Shirish Kunder in his debut film  Jaan-E-Mann , felt that  Joker  had enough ingredients to intrigue the audience. Though the film has taken a year and a half to reach the finishing line, insiders assure that the wait would be worth it. "See, there are two kinds of films that can be made. First is when a film is wrapped up so fast that everyone is happy  ki chalo khatam ho gayi, ab jaldi se release karte hain . And then there is a film like  Joker  where you know that the subject and genre by itself is so intricate that it would take time to put it all together. Yes, of course it can all get very tiring for some but then the results speak for such films because a long wait results in something unseen and unheard of", says Shirish who has put together an eclectic mix of aliens (whether they are real or fake is yet to be seen) in the film. It was this p

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi Movie Review

Image
When two Parsis fall in love there's bound to be friction. They are such a talkative community. At least that's what we get to know from the eccentric bustle that our movies tend to create when dealing with the community. While watching Bela Sehgal's sweet tender story of Shirin and Farhad passed the age of marriage, determined to find love and companionship in each other's unexciting company one immediately thought of Basu Chatterjee's  Khatta Meetha  and Vijaya Mehta's  Pestonjee . The first, because it was a film about a widow and a widower from the Parsi community overcoming their children's opposition for an autumnal marriage. Vijaya Mehta's  Pestonjee  was remarkably accurate in portraying the benign quirks of the Parsi community, so is Bela Bhansali Sehgal. Though not a Parsi herself, she plunges into the centre of the dwindling community's eccentricities without trying to give the characters any kind of a novel existence beyond what they are

I wish I had made Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi - Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Image
In a never-before tete-a-tete, Sanjay Leela Bhansali opens up on the agony of watching his sister's directorial debut being delayed and why he is very happy with the film.  It has taken your sister Bela a good ten years to direct her first film. A lot of people blame you for the delay?  Things happen when they are destined to happen. I am aware that people thought I was the banyan tree which doesn't allow any other tree to grow in its shade. The thought that people held me responsible for my sister's career not taking off killed me from inside. You'd be surprised to know that she held my hand and introduced me to the wonders of cinema. She took me to the FTII and she introduced into the film industry. I owe everything I am today to her. Maybe I was fortunate to have directed a film before her. But rightfully she should have directed before me.  You could have prodded her to direct her film long before?  At times I used to wonder if she was taking so long to direct a fil

Student Of The Year is a landmark film for me - Niranjan Iyengar

Image
In the hierarchy of Bollywood, dialogue and screenwriters are often granted a position so low, given their creative value, that the prospect of one becoming a star overnight is almost laughable. And then there is Niranjan Iyengar's story. It all began one day when Niranjan's mother took him to the movies where he started crying and had to leave. He was a kid then. Adolescence got him dreaming about Rekha and thus followed his stint with 'G' magazine as a writer, a few years with the pen and then mixing it well by assisting Manish Malhotra for three and a half years designing costumes for films and for the ramp. Having penned dialogues for the two most awaited films of 2012 - Student Of The Year and Heroine, Iyengar's determination to see a project through was evident because his challenge doesn't lie in putting those lines on the paper. It lies in taking the director's vision ahead. So to say Niranjan's a visionary maybe true. Dressed in denims and a

Arbaaz talks about turning director for Salmans Dabangg 2

Image
Initial anxiety has made way for euphoria. Dabangg 2 is over 50% complete and first time director is pretty much in his elements. With his confidence being further enhanced over a period of time and finding himself in the thick of things while directing his superstar brother in the form of Salman Khan who is riding high on his fourth century in a row with Ek Tha Tiger still going strong, Arbaaz says that he just went with the flow instead of over-calculating his moves. "See, there would be certain amount of anxiety that comes with every job. It was there when I turned actor 15 years back with Daraar. Then it was also there when I opened my production house for Dabangg. So it was but natural to be curious about how things would look like when I start calling the shots. However, more than anything else, it was a feeling of positivism that surrounded me", says Arbaaz in a relaxed tone. In fact one half-expected the actor to be either bogged down by the enormity of affairs o

I have not yet seen Student Of The Year - David Dhawan

Image
The entire Dhawan family has decided to set aside its other commitments to focus on the younger Dhawan scion Varun's debut next month. Never known to be exceedingly religious, David and his wife flew to Rishikesh on Wednesday to pray for Varun's film. Describing the trip David said, "We had gone to do aarti in Rishikesh. I've never prayed for my own career. But when it comes to one's children, one's attitude to everything from God and destiny to luck and good fortune, changes." David also let out that he is next planning a post-launch film for his son. Though he is unwilling to reveal any details at the moment, we understand that David's elder son Rohit Dawan will direct Varun in a home production which is currently being planned on a war footing and would be announced after the release of Varun's debut film Student Of The Year on 19th October. All David wants to say on this subject at the moment is, "We are definitely doing somethin

Akshays custom made religious bike in OMG Oh My God

Image
The very moment someone mentions the term 'bike', the only name that comes to mind is John Abraham. Well, it seems that Akshay Kumar is set to challenge that with his bike in his upcoming flick  OMG! Oh My God . On one hand, while the film's song ' Go-Go Govinda ' has already been creating immense buzz, on the other, its Akshay's bike which is vrooming its way to be the cynosure of everyone's eyes, courtesy its 'divine' number plate! Reports have it that Akshay got a custom license plate with symbols from Hinduism, Islam and Christianity! Needless to say that, with Divine Intervention 'leading' him, Akki, who plays the 'Modern God 2.0', will be seen riding his custom made chopper with élan! Wonder what the RTO officials have to say to that!

Katrina reaches Ladakh gears up for hectic times

Image
One would have thought that post Ek Tha Tiger, Katrina Kaif would be able to enjoy a tiny break at the least, if not a full fledged vacation. However, it is now apparent that she would have to wait for more than 100 days before she even thinks of a vacation, courtesy her hectic itinerary. "In fact, even Ek Tha Tiger hasn't yet sunk in. The film released a week ago and Katrina was already packing her bags for Ladakh. She has reached there already for the Yash Chopra film and Shah Rukh, after being alone this Eid, has company now", says a source attached to the film. Though Katrina's stay in Ladakh would be only for a week (contrary to rumors making the round that she would be there till September beginning), she would soon be taking off for Chicago where Aamir Khan would be ready to welcome her for the shoot of Dhoom 3. "Both schedules would also be physically taxing for Katrina", the source continues, "She has to be particularly careful about th

Shriya Saran goes bold for Maxim

Image
Southern beauty Shriya Saran graces the cover page of the latest issue of Maxim. Known for her shy, demure, girl next door look in most of her films, Shriya seems to have gone in for a complete makeover and is ready to shock many with her bold and dare to bare avatar. The actress talks about how she wanted to be Kathak dancer as a child before the acting bug bit her. Shriya, who has worked with the biggest of stars down South, will next be seen in Deepa Mehta's  Midnight's Children and also in an item song in  Zilla Ghaziabad .

Check out SRK as army officer in Yash Chopras film

Image
Shah Rukh Khan has delivered some of the biggest hits of his career with Yash Raj Films. No wonder then that his next directed by Yash Chopra is eagerly anticipated by one and all. The yet untitled film also features Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma paired opposite SRK. We came across these images of SRK shooting for the film in Ladakh. From the looks of it, SRK seems to be playing an army officer named Samar in the film. The rugged look seems to go perfectly well with the character and King Khan carries it off with much aplomb.  The first teaser of a Yash Chopra romance was unveiled with Ek Tha Tiger recently and got a tremendous response. The film, which has music by A.R.Rahman and lyrics by Gulzar, is slated to release on Diwali (November 13) this year.
