Dell debuts Inspiron One 23 AIO computer

Image
Dell has rolled out a new AIO computer for the Inspiron line called the Inspiron One 23 (2320) AIO desktop computer. The AIO machine has a 23-inch LCD screen, comes in a variety of configurations, and can be customized. The screen has HD resolution and LED backlighting. The AIO can also be optioned with a wireless mouse and keyboard as well. I would think at the starting price of $949.99 a wireless mouse and keyboard would be included. The AIO also has an integrated HD resolution camera, touch support with touch apps, and onboard JBL speakers. The AIO can be had with Core i5-2400S or Core i7-2600S processors. It uses Windows 7 64-bit and can have up to 8GB of RAM. Storage is up to 2000GB and the machine can be fitted with an optional Blu-ray drive. The computer gets Intel integrated HD graphics as standard and can be fitted with an optional discrete GeForce GT 525M video card. The computer also has an integrated Ethernet port and integrated WiFi. The base system is $949.99, the nex

D-Link DSL-2740B ADSL2+ modem with Wireless N300 Router launches

Image
Earlier this week D-Link unveiled some new home networking gear that was nice. Today the company is back with the launch of a new modem for DSL users called the DSL-2740B. The new router is for ADSL2+ users and has an integrated router that allows you to have your modem and wireless network router in one device rather than two. The wireless router portion supports 802.11n speeds up to 300 mbps and is backwards compatible with older WiFi specifications as well. The router is IPv6 ready and has a number of security and speed enhancements over older products in the line. The router has WPA/WPA2 and WEP data encryption. It also has four fast Ethernet ports to connect to local computers. The router also has TR-069 management support and is compatible with any ISP according to D-Link. Other security features include SPI, a hacker attack log that inspect packets before they come in, and protection against DoS attacks. The new modem is available right now for $79.99 online and in stores.

Epson announces new PowerLite 420, 425W, 430, and 435W digital projectors

Image
Epson has announced a new line of projectors that are in the PowerLite family. The new projectors include the PowerLite 420, 425W, 430, and 435W. The new offerings are all made for short throw distances and to be bright. Brightness is important since this sort of projector is often used in a classroom or office when it is bright. The projector line starts at $949. The 420 is the $949 unit, the 425W sells for $1,049, the 430 is $1,049, and the 435W is $1,149. They can be wall or ceiling mounted and are made to project onto a blackboard or a whiteboard. The 430 and 435W are both 3,000 lumen projectors with the other two having 2,500 lumens of brightness. The 420 and 430 are XGA resolution projectors with the 425W and 435W offering WXGA resolution. All of the projectors have lots of connectivity with HDMI, RJ-45 ports, and USB ports. The line also has a 16W internal speaker, the ability to show things without a computer, and direct power on and off controls. The projectors also have 3

Halloween theme stations hit Pandora

Image
I used to work with a woman that had to have music for whatever the season was playing in her office constantly. During Halloween, it was stuff like the Monster Mash constantly. I also live in a neighborhood where some of the people go all out for decorating on the holidays with smoke, flames, and spooky music. If you are the all out sort, there isn’t any need to buy a CD this year if you are on Pandora. Pandora has announced hat its Halloween themed section is now available to listen to. There are eight different Halloween themed stations to choose from. The selections include Halloween, Halloween Party, Spooky Symphonies, Children’s Halloween, Ghostly Grooves, Witch House, Goth, and Industrial. Apparently, there is enough music for anything from a kid’s Halloween party to sound effects for your outdoor spooky display for trick-or-treaters. You can listen to the music right if you have an account.

Fujifilm unveils new interchangeable lens mirrorless camera system

Image
If you are, a fan of the smaller mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses Fujifilm has a new one you might want to consider. Fujifilm has unveiled the new X100 camera system and at this point, it’s not clear if the camera is a micro four thirds offering or some other sort of offering. The camera is expected to launch next spring. It’s worth noting right up front that the photos here are not the new camera system, but the fixed lens X100. Fujifilm is giving up scant detail on the new camera system other than it is mirrorless. Fujifilm says that the objective with this new camera was to create the highest image quality possible. The full specs will be offered up closer to launch along with pricing information. I hate teases like this. With no information on sensor type, the tech inside, or resolution those on the market now for a new digital camera have no idea whether they should wait of buy something currently available. Are you going to wait until next spring to see what Fuj

Need for Speed the Run demo coming October 18

Samsung has filed to have Apple’s iPad design rights in Europe invalidated, the company has confirmed, claiming that “the design existed long before the iPad.” The application was filed to the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) back on August 9, The Korea Times reports, and if successful could have a significant impact on Apple’s cases in Europe against the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The news follows Samsung’s demands for a preliminary injunction against the new iPhone 4S in France and Italy. Apple’s design rights were roundly discussed earlier this year, after critics suggested they were too basic and could equally apply to TVs, digital photo frames and anything else with a simple border around a display. Nonetheless, German courts awarded Apple an injunction against the Galaxy Tab 10, initially effective across Europe but subsequently diluted to solely concern sales in Germany. A judge later upheld the ban, deciding that the “smooth, simple surfaces” of the Samsung Honeyc

Need for Speed the Run demo coming October 18

Image
I think one of the bestselling video games this holiday season is going to be Need for Speed The Run. This is the latest installment in the NFS franchise that has been around for many years now. The game will be coming in time for Christmas giving and has some awesome cars in it. If you need a bit more convincing that his game is worth your money, the demo is coming. EA has announced that the demo for the game will be coming on October 18. The demo will have the game’s Autolog feature to allow gamers to compete against each other in the demo. The game demo will have players screaming through the Desert Hills of California and independence Pass in Colorado. The game demo will have two of the many cars the full version offers. In the demo, players will get to choose between the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S and the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni. The Porsche will only be available if the player refers a friend to download the demo. If you want the demo you need to pay at

Original Crysis now available on PS3 and Xbox

Image
Back in 2007 when Crysis hit the PC, it was the most awesome game that had ever hit the PC. The graphics were incredible and it has very original game play and was just a ton of fun. The game was highly demanding on the graphics cards inside the computer though leading to the most oft asked question of that year when it came to new PCs and video cards, “Will it play Crysis?” If you are a pure console gamer, you may not have had the chance to check out the original Crysis from 2007. EA and Crytek have announced that they have now delivered the game to the console gamers out there for the first time. The game is on the PlayStation Network for download for $19.99. If you are an Xbox 360 purist, it is on Xbox Live Games for 1600 Microsoft points. Both versions use the CryENGINE 3 and have been tweaked specifically for smooth gamely on the console. They are also made to support stereoscopic 3D as well. The game is the single player mission from the original PC version. That means you ge

Juke-R takes the ugly out of Nissan’s Juke crossover, infuses a healthy dose of hoonability

Image
I have long thought one of the ugliest cars to ever roll off the assembly line is the Nissan Juke. I am obviously not the target market that Nissan was aiming at with the little crossover SUV. The Juke is a four door small SUV and Nissan has taken the Juke and is making two very special versions that I would drive the wheels off of. Nissan has dubbed the pair of special rides the Juke-R. There will be one Juke-R made in right hand drive and one made in left hand drive. Other than the location of the wheel, the vehicles are the same. The cars received a healthy dose of style on the outside, and I actually like the design that you can see in the renderings. The real interesting bits aren’t the design though, it’s under the hood. Both Juke-Rs have the AWD power train and twin turbo 3.8L V6 from the awesome Nissan GTR. The GTR is blazing fast by all accounts and putting that much power into the small SUV would make the car very quick. Both of the Juke-Rs are street legal and Nissan is

Android Honeycomb Paid App sales soar claims Google

Image
Google is claiming more than a four-fold increase in paid app sales for Android Honeycomb tablets in comparison to Android Gingerbread device users, according to the company’s latest stats. Although Gingerbread sales are considerably higher than any previous iteration of Android for smartphones, Little Fluffy Toys reports from the search giant’s Android Developer Lab in London, UK this morning, Google seems to be saying that it’s tablets which have succeeded in opening Android users’ wallets. There are no actual numbers attached to the chart, which means it’s hard to compare Android app sales with, say, iOS or other platforms. Regular studies have suggested that Android developers find it far harder to sell paid apps to their audience than iOS developers do, while also suffering significantly from piracy issues. Apple users buy 61-percent more apps and pay 14-percent more per title, according to research back in July. Honeycomb – Google’s version of Android specifically tailored fo

Xbox 360 to get more TV functionality, confirmation coming today

Image
Last week Rue talked a bit about the additional TV services that are expected to come to the Xbox 360 soon. When we last talked about much of the story was conjecture, but the official confirmation of new TV services is coming from Microsoft today reports AllThingsD. AllThingsD was told by a source that is familiar with Microsoft’s plans that the confirmation was coming today. The announcement is that the Xbox 360 will become much more like a cable box. The Xbox won’t turn into a cable box as you get from your local company or satellite. It will be more of an extension of TV anywhere that many networks like HBO and Cinemax already allow subscribers to do with apps on smartphones and tablets. The Xbox will require that the users subscribe to cable for now rather than offering direct subscriptions to content that the user wants to buy. This is why Ballmer has promoted the 360 as an entertainment device that allows users to switch between games, DVDs, and TV rather than a way to ditch

Ford and UAW reach an agreement, details on 2013 GT500 surface in negotiations

Image
Ford and the UAW union that controls the labor force at many of the factories that Ford operates have reached an agreement for contract labor. One of the plants that had been in jeopardy is the Flat Rock plant where the Mustang and the Mazda6 are built. Mazda wants to move the production of the Mazda6 to Japan and the Mustang alone wasn’t enough to pay the bills at the factory. The negotiations to keep the plant open and for other facilities Ford operates have been going on for a while now and Ford and the UAE have reached a final agreement. Some interesting details on the 2013 Shelby GT500 came out of the negotiations. One of the things that the contract covers is $50 million for the addition of a new engine at the Romeo Engine Assembly Plant along with other tweaks to the plant. The new engine the plant will be constructing is a 5.8L supercharged V8. This is the engine that has been rumored to be in the 2013 Shelby GT500 and the GT500 uses the only supercharged engine in the Ford

HP CEO: PC spin-off decision by October’s end; Dell CEO weighs in

Image
HP CEO Meg Whitman hopes to have a decision regarding spinning off the company’s PC business before the end of October 2011, she has confirmed, ahead of the company’s previous target of the end of this year. Speaking at Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women Summit this week, Reuters reports, Whitman said her timescale priorities were far more ambitious than those of Leo Apotheker, whom she replaced, “because uncertainty is not our friend here.” “That’s a decision I’d like to make … certainly by the end of October” Whitman said, though later clarified that it was possible the process “may slip a little bit.” Nonetheless, she insisted that the evaluation was “certainly much more accelerated” than under Apotheker. Earlier this month, HP told us that it expected to have a decision on the spin-off before the end of the year, though warned that even if separating the computer hardware business was the eventual plan, implementing it could take 12-18 months. Whitman would give no indica

Ford Escape gets new fuel efficient engines for 2012

Image
Ford has announced that the Escape will be getting three four cylinder engine options in the 2012 model year with two of them being powerful and fuel efficient EcoBoost offerings. Like all the other EcoBoost engines in the Ford range the big draw is that they make power equal to larger engines, but use much less fuel. The Escape will be getting two EcoBoost options in 2012 along with a 2.5L Ti-VCT engine. The two EcoBoost options will include the 1.6L EcoBoost that will debut in North America inside the Escape. The other EcoBoost option will be a 2L offering. The 1.6 is rated for 31 mpg by the EPA. Ford is mum on the numbers for the engine, but they claim it has similar output when compared to the larger 4-cylinder offerings from competitors. The 1.6L EcoBoost has been in use inside vehicles in Europe already. Ford has also announced that it will be offering a hybrid version of the C-MAX. The C-MAX is the first Ford hybrid to use a hybrid transmission and lithium battery system tha

Evolve motorcycles to launch three all electric scooters

Image
The car industry is going green at a fast pace with more hybrids and full EVs coming to market each year. The motorcycle industry is also going electric as well, but at as slower pace than the auto industry. A motorcycle company called evolve is talking up three new all electric motorcycles that are available now. The bikes are more like scooters than a traditional motorcycle and are meant for use in urban areas. The three models include the titanium, neon, and helium with the titanium being the top of the line model. The helium has a 1500w electric motor, a 40ah battery and a 40 mile range. It can charge in 2.5 hours. The scooter has a 40 mph top speed and sells for $2,900. The neon is the next up the line and sells for $3,900. It packs in a larger 3000w electric motor, a 60ah battery, and has a range of 50 miles. The scooter also needs 2.5 hours to charge and has a top speed of 50mph. The last in the line is the high-end titanium model with a 5000w electric motor. The battery is

Quirky outs slick Ray solar charger

Image
I like most of the crowd sourced gear that quirky builds. The company operates on an interesting model where they take a person’s idea and then build the product based on input from the users of the site. The latest product from Quirky is the Ray and it’s very interesting for those that are on the go a lot. The Ray is a little suction cup solar charger with a USB port that uses the cables that come with your gear. The solar panel is inside the suction cup face that sticks to the windows of just about anything from your home, office, car, or even airplane. The device also has a kickstand that lets you use the charger on a desk if you are near a window. The Ray also has a storage compartment to hold your USB cables when you aren’t charging the device. The Ray measures 2.5″ x 2.5″ x 3″ and Quirky notes that it is subject to change during production. The Ray has a battery inside to let you charge gadgets at night as well. You can pre-order the Ray for $39.99 and once the 2,000 order ma

Dell and HP Ultrabooks by Q1 2012 tips supply chain

Image
HP and Dell’s ultrabook plans have leaked, with the two companies expected to jump into Intel’s MacBook Air rivaling segment in Q4 this year and Q1 2012 respectively. Dell’s model will feature a 14-inch display, DigiTimes‘ supply chain sources tell them, and is expected to debut at CES 2012 in January, though beyond that no specifications have been suggested. As for HP – which was tipped to be readying its own Ultrabook last month, after adverts suggesting a model was incoming were spotted in among Google search results – details are similarly unclear, but ODM Quanta Computer is apparently readying production for the new ultraportable by the end of 2011. Meanwhile, Dell is reportedly looking to Wistron for its design. That suggests both firms will trail ASUS, Toshiba, Lenovo and Acer into the market, with all three expected to launch their ultrabooks imminently. It could well be that HP and Dell have been holding out for Intel’s next-gen Cedar Trail processors, which are tipped to

Zune HD not dead after all claims Microsoft

Image
Microsoft has apparently flip-flopped on the Zune HD again, resurrecting its PMP hardware from the dead and claiming axing the media player lineup was never its intent. After first squashing rumors that the Zune hardware line had been killed, then promptly admitting that the Zune HD was, indeed, dead, Microsoft’s support team now insists that “no official info has been released stating hardware is being discontinued.” Meanwhile, the support article that confirmed the Zune range had been discontinued has since been pulled, though you can still read the details in Google’s cached version (and below). According to the Zune Support Twitter account, “that site was added to the Zune website in error” and there’s “no further info” at this time. “We recently announced that, going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy, and that we will no longer be producing Zune players. So what does this mean for our current Zune users? Absolutely nothing. Your de

Samsung seeks iPhone 4S sales ban in France and Italy

Image
Samsung will attempt to block iPhone 4S sales in France and Italy, the company has announced, citing two 3G WCDMA patents it claims Apple has infringed. Filing separate preliminary injunction motions in Paris and Milano today, Samsung claims that Apple “has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride on our technology” and that the company believes “it is now necessary to take legal action to protect our innovation.” “The infringed technology is essential to the reliable functioning of telecom networks and devices” Samsung’s statement explains, going on to point out that the company “believes that Apple’s violation as being too severe and that the iPhone 4S should be barred from sales.” Meanwhile it won’t be the only injunction Samsung is seeking: the company says it plans to file further demands for a preliminary block on iPhone 4S sales in other countries “after further review.” Samsung had already been tipped to be readying a legal interventio

Apple iPhone microUSB adapter appears to pacify EU

Image
Apple has quietly added a new iPhone Micro USB Adapter to its accessory line-up, allowing the iPhone 4S along with the iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G to be synchronized or charged via microUSB cable. Currently showing up in the UK Apple Store, and expected to ship by October 14 – the release date for the iPhone 4S – the adapter is presumed to be the company’s response to the EU directive standardizing microUSB for charging cellphones. That may explain why it’s not on sale – at least at the moment – in the US Apple Store, though European stores do have it listed. In the UK the adapter dongle is £8 ($13) while it’s €9 in Europe, hooking up to the proprietary Apple sync port and offering a basic microUSB port. It’s a welcome addition, but it’s unclear whether Apple will be including the adapter in the box with the iPhone 4S and other handsets for European buyers. So far the UK product page for the iPhone 4S would suggest that won’t be the case, listing only the regular Dock Connector to USB cab

Samsung Teases Ice Cream Sandwich device for CTIA release

Image
What you’re about to see may alarm you – do not be frightened – this may well be your first glimpse at the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich device, and it’s dangerously curved. Samsung has been pretty good about promoting their devices over the past few months, always letting us know that there’s something magical around the bend with teaser videos galore – this time it’s a set of combos from real life, this all leading us to believe that the Ice Cream Sandwich hero device (that operating system being one that combines tablet and smartphone functionality) is right around the bend. And bent it is, ladies and gentlemen, bent it is. Milk and cookies, newspaper and coffee, planner and pen, wine and candles. And all the systems together make one wonderful device. Android has come to a point in history where tablet architecture and smartphone sizes must at once form a perfect union, and Samsung may well be the manufacturer to make it all happen. They made it happen with the last really cur

Kindle Fire tablet sales hit 250,000 over five days

Image
According to some leaked sales data, the total number of Amazon Kindle Fire tablets sold since being launched 5 days ago is hovering just over 250,000 units. Sales may have slowed down a bit since it was last estimated to have reached almost 100,000 units on its very first day, but it’s nonetheless impressive, considering how other tablet rivals have fared. The Kindle Fire may not have turned out to be the ulimate iPad-killer given the great disparity in specs and price point, but analysts still consider it to be a lot more competitive than expected. In comparison, Apple’s iPad 2 sold 2.5 million units in its first month, which is about 80,000 units a day. Amazon’s Kindle Fire is looking at about 50,000 units a day right now and that’s not too shabby, especially when you consider that the Motorola XOOM is rumored to have sold only 100,000 units after a month and a half, while the BlackBerry PlayBook, which the Kindle Fire is modeled after, only sold 500,000 units total in its first q

Apple iPhone 4S keynote video now available

Image
Apple didn’t offer live streaming of the Let’s Talk iPhone event this morning, but the company has now posted the video on its website. The event is the first major keynote with new Apple CEO Tim Cook at the helm. He was accompanied by Apple execs Scott Forstall, Eddy Cue, and Phil Schiller to unveil the iPhone 4S, iOS 5, iCloud, and the Siri voice control Assistant feature. What came from the keynote was a bit disappointing after the rumor mills built up a possible iPhone 5 upgrade. Instead, what we have is the iPhone 4S that retains the same exterior as the iPhone 4 but with some internal hardware improvements, including a dual-core A5 processor and an 8-megapixel camera. The iPhone 4S still is not NFC-equipped and does not support 4G, although it is now a world phone and available on Sprint in addition to AT&T and Verizon. The improvements to the iPhone 4S camera are perhaps worthy to note. Beyond the now upgraded 8-megapixel resolution and 1080p HD video capture capability,

Bell 206 helicopter hits NYC East River

Image
It appears that the NYC East River is the new home of a Bell 206 helicopter that took off earlier today after launching from the pad it would normally take off from along the riverbank. This crash has claimed one life and injured four more, two of these passengers seriously injured. This chopper was a private vehicle and went into the water near 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan. At the moment it seems that the only known reason for the crash was a possible mechanical failure. Helicopter above is same model, pictured here for illustration purposes One woman was found in or around the crashed vehicle having passed some time in or near the initial crash, while two female passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, one in cardiac arrest, the other in respiratory arrest, while one other man was taken to another nearby hospital with unknown conditions. I must comment at this point that normally SlashGear wouldn’t report on subject matter such as this, but in this case there may be friends

AppleCare+ debuts at just $99, now covers accidental damage

Image
We all know plenty about AppleCare, the service that provides additional coverage and protection for all of our Apple devices as well as phone support. Today we are now seeing something new called AppleCare+ — yes they’ve added a plus and we now have some additional options and coverage. So what is this “plus” all about, and how does it differ from the original? Details can be found below. Getting a price pump from $70 to $100 AppleCare+ is $30 dollars more but we get much more coverage and protection here. The good news here, is that we now have 2 years of extended coverage after your first year, it also now offers two instances of protection from accidental damage — for a $49 fee each time. So for those that always break their screens, or have accidents, this is for you. This seems like a fair deal instead of having to break out your wallet and pay full price should these “accidents” happen and you break that precious 3.5″ display like I’ve seen thousands of times. We are still l

iPhone 4S, 3GS, 4 off-contract pricing revealed

Image
So you’ve got the prices for all the device on-contract, yes? Now we’ve got the real numbers for you if you plan on running away from the store with a device that’s on no contract at all as well. Can you guess what they might be? Let’s start with the iPhone 3GS – this device now only comes in one iteration, 8GB, and on-contract you can get it for free if you also commit to a 2-year contract. Sounds like a deal! If you’d like to get this phone OFF contract, you’ll be paying a total of $375. An interesting thing to note here is the fact that the “free” model is in stock today while the off-contract model will be delivered and in stores on the 14th of October. Strange! The unlocked version of the one and only iPhone 4 (in its only iteration, the 8GB size,) will cost you $99 on a 2-year contract in either its white or black casing. If you’d like to pick up either one of these plain ol’ iPhone 4 units completely off-contract, you’ll be dishing out a total of $549 USD. Similar to the off-c

T-Mobile gives staff advice for in-store combat regarding the iPhone 4S

Image
We don’t know how T-Mobile truly feels regarding getting left out on the next device coming from Apple this fall, but we do have some leaked staff notes explaining how staff can combat customers and explain the Android offerings vs the iPhone 5 iPhone 4S. In case you missed anything from camp Apple today it is all available at our Apple Portal. For those not following along the new iPhone 4S is headed to the main carriers here in the U.S. but T-Mobile. Yesterday they began sending around notes to staff to help teach how employee’s can explain what is best for customers needs, and why they should choose a T-Mobile smartphone running on 4G HPSA+ and Android. Here is part of what the notes had to say: …engage in informative conversations with our customers. These conversations will include many details about T-Mobile Android phones and why our quality 4G nationwide network is a smarter choice for many customers. Use every opportunity to engage the customer, ask lifestyle questions and

PayPal to open pop-up store next month in NYC, showcasing new mobile payment options

Image
Paypal is all set to open a new pop-up store in the trendy streets of downtown Manhattan, New York, to announce and showcase their new payment options and point-of-sale features that are coming soon. PayPal plans to invite local merchants to visit the store, located at 174 Hudson, to experience and see real-time demos of the company’s payment processing technology for retail stores, and see it in action how they intend for it to be at brick and mortar stores nationwide. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard such news, we mentioned this briefly back in July as a response to other mobile payment systems such as Google Wallet and more. Along with the retail store in Manhattan coming November 1st, Paypal plans to have plenty QR codes out front and nearby for people walking and passing by to scan that will give them more details and reveal all the information right from Paypal. Paypal isn’t stopping at QR codes and mobile payments either, the new system is expected to allow consumers to

iPhone 4S Hands-On

Image
The Apple iPhone 4S is here, and as soon as Tim Cook’s keynote was over we spent some hands-on time with the new iOS 5 smartphone. Much of the magic is now hidden behind a familiar face, but things like Siri, the boosted camera and a core speed improvement will be enough reason for many to upgrade. Check out our full first-impressions after the cut. The fact that Apple has left the external design unchanged may frustrate many would-be upgraders, though it’s hard to be too disappointed when the handset – even over a year old – remains the thinnest smartphone around. It’s still 9.3mm thick, impressive when you think Apple has made it a single World Phone with support for both GSM and CDMA networks. We won’t be able to speed-test the HSPA support until we have more time with a review unit, but Apple is promising speeds that are the equivalent of what some networks – and rival devices – claim is 4G. Still, we compared load times of the New York Times homepage over Verizon’s EVDO Rev.A co

Say Hello to the iPhone 4S

Image
All the rumors and speculation have finally ended today regarding the next iPhone, as you all already know it will be the iPhone 4S — no 5 here. While just about everyone and their dogs were watching the news as it unfolded, us included, the Apple site has been overwhelmed all day, pages keep disappearing for updates most likely. I’d like to introduce you to the new iPhone 4S courtesy of Apple.com We were live-blogging the entire event at live.slashgear.com just like many others and you can see all that coverage by clicking our iPhone portal. Today Apple has announced the new iPhone 4S with its new dual-core processor and more, and set the older sibling down to the low low price of free. Who didn’t see that coming? Pictured above and below are a few official pictures of the new iPhone 4S, a world phone with dual CDMA / GSM and more, as well as the first official presentation video. Powered by that dual-core and voice-controlled by Siri Apple is calling this the “Best iPhone yet!”,

Apple Siri brings voice-control to iPhone 4S

Image
We’ve heard all the rumors and yes they are true. Apple is bringing full out voice control “Siri” to the iPhone. This is a feature that has been a long time coming from the folks in Cupertino, they’ve also confirmed that yes — it will be called Siri. Bringing easy and natural voice control to the world of the iPhone. Look Android, the iPhone has a microphone on the keyboard now too. We have plenty of pictures of the demonstration below so head on down and look over the gallery. As to be expected with Siri voice-control everything will be super smooth, easy, and natural. Using the most simple and natural voice commands such as Set Alarm 8:30, What is the weather like today?, whats the forecast this week? That isn’t all either when you ask if it will rain, Siri responds “it sure looks like rain today”. Apple announces new iPod touch with Retina Display, Face Time

Image
Apple revealed hardware updates for its iPod shuffle, iPod nano, and iPod touch, but missing again is the iPod classic. The rumored capacity upgrade didn’t pan out and it’s not all too surprising with the popularity of the iPod touch and Apple shifting to the iCloud. The updated iPod touch features an ultra thin design, Apple’s super dense pixel Retina Display, FaceTime, and HD video recording. Not only is it good for music listening, it’s being touted by Apple as the number one portable gaming device. It will offer many of the new iOS 5 features including iMessage and the Game Center as well as connection to the iCloud. The new iPod touch comes in white and black and is priced at $199 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 32GB, and $399 for the 64GB. The devices will be available starting October 12. A new iPod shuffle was also briefly mentioned to be priced at $49 with a 2GB capacity.

iPhone 4S prices revealed, now on Sprint

Image
This week at the iPhone event in California, the iPhone 4S was revealed and a whole new set of prices were let loose for the whole iPhone series. In addition, it was revealed that the iPhone would now be carried by AT&T, Verizon AND Sprint. This is a first for the third carrier. Prices on these devices are surprisingly low considering past prices of iPhones, but given the fact that the smallest iPod Touch is now just $199, we suppose this is right in line: the 16GB iPhone 4S is also $199 USD on a 2-year contract with any of the three major carriers. Oh that’s not low enough for you? Saw that price coming a mile away? How about this? The iPhone 4 is now just $99 on a 2-year contract, while the iPhone 3GS – yes, they still sell those, is completely FREE on a 2-year contract. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, I was – in a way, totally correct, when I wrote the article titled Why the iPhone 4S will be free. The iPhone 4S isn’t free, but my reasoning is sound, believe you me. As f

Apple unveils new iPod nano, most affordable yet

The new iPod nano integrates Nike+ with a slew of new fitness features rolled in. The new iPod features an improved navigation interface. It’s now easier to use and instead of having a grid of icons, you now swipe from app icon to icon. It’s integrated Nike+ feaeture lets you track your walking and running metrics and doesn’t require any additional adapters. Infinity Blade 2 from Epic Games coming December 1st to iOS devices

Image
With the iPhone 4S having been updated to the Apple A5 dual-core processor like the iPad 2 features having up to 7x better graphics performance you can bet we’ll be seeing some simply amazing games coming soon. Just for a tease Apple has shown a bit of the graphics prowess we can expect on iOS devices with the A5 with the new upcoming release of Infinity Blade 2. With Infinity Blade 2 we should see amazing graphics never before seen with a mobile device. With amazing special effects, physics, real-time lighting and more. Using features and physics from games such as God of War, we can all expect this game to be stellar. The original Infinity Blade stunned users and mobile gamers everywhere bringing unrivaled graphics and immersive gameplay to iOS devices. The original was the first game to make use of the Unreal Engine 3 for mobile and we can expect even greater things from the next release. Apple’s Game Center has seen continued success thanks to all the popular games. Today they

Apple recaps iOS 5 improvements

Image
The Apple “Let’s Talk iPhone” event is still developing and of course they can’t dive right into the next-gen iPhone just yet. Instead, they’re going over several of the new features to come with iOS 5, most of which we’ve seen previously at WWDC 2011. But here’s a recap of the more finalized versions. Apple’s Notifications System was probably the biggest complaint and that is certainly getting revamped in iOS 5. Improvements on the system include an Android-like swipe down feature that shows all your notifications in one place called Notifications Center and also a new lockscreen with notifications. iMessage will now be the default text messaging system that supports text, photos, and videos. It also includes send/read receipts, typing indication, pushes message to all your devices and works over 3G or WiFi. Other improvements more briefly recapped include the Reminders app, native Twitter integration, better Maps, Newsstand, and a much improved camera that you can get to direct

Find My Friends iOS 5 app revealed

Image
This week at the iPhone event Apple held in California, a new standard app for iPhones was revealed, one called Find My Friends that basically acts as a radar for helping you locate all the friends you’ve got that are also connected to the app and have agreed to share with you. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen such functionality in a smartphone, of course, but such a simple interface is newsworthy. Especially when it comes standard with the iPhone. You’ll be able to easily locate friends and family, share you location temporarily, and do it all from a “simple privacy” set of controls, this meaning you should feel safe, but you’ll be able to do it easily. You can see an overhead map of the area you’re in or track a person wherever they might be on the planet. Sound good for your kids? Best use for this app will be for those walking around Disneyland, basically, just incase you want to ride some different rides and meet up later. Exciting to see such functionality coming right ou

Apple mails physical greetings for you with new Cards app

Image
Among the many things we anticipate Apple covering at the Let’s Talk iPhone event today, one we did not expect is a new app that involves Apple physically mailing something to you or a designated recipient. The company’s John Forstall is up on stage touting the 500,000 apps currently in the App Store and that the company makes a lot of apps themselves, with the latest and somewhat most bizarre app called “Cards.” With the Cards app, developed by Apple, you can choose from 21 templates, that presumably will grow in selection over time. You select and put your message in the card via your iPhone and then from there Apple will print and emboss the cards for you and physically mail them off. Whacky? Yes. But we suppose it can come in handy. “We’ll print it out, put the address on it, and mail it. If you mail in the US, we can track it with the US Postal Service barcode, and we’ll send you a push notification when it arrives,” said Forstall as the audience clapped. The free app is set t

Tim Cook takes the lead at iPhone event

Image
This week in Cupertino in a much smaller-than-usual venue for a press event, Apple played lovely tunes as per usual by such big bands as the Rolling Stones [Jumpin Jack Flash!] and Eric Clapton. After asking the crowd to turn their phones off and that there would be just a five minute delay after the proposed starting mark at 10 AM PST, the event began. Tim Cook stepped on stage and announced that this would be his first product launch since being named Apple CEO. He let the audience know that it was his privilege to host such an event and that after 14 years of working for Apple, he was glad to be taking his new role. After reminding the crowd of the MacBook Air one year ago, 10 years ago for the iPod, and that today they’d be announcing additions to their mobile OS, apps, services, and hardware. Cook went on to speak calmly, yet excitedly about the several new stores they’d just launched, the Shanghai store being “absolutely gorgeous” and pulling in 100,000 visitors opening weekend

iOS Camera updated to work from lock screen – amongst other re-confirmed iOS 5 features

Image
We’re live at the Apple iPhone event in California where we’ve learned of many new and exciting features for iOS as well as some lovely statistics from Apple stores around the world and unbelievable sales figures on all Apple products. One little oddity that all you iOS lovers out there will be glad to hear about is the confirmation that the Camera app will be usable from the lockscreen. You’ll now be able to get in quick and snap a pic with no effort at all! In addition, you’ll now be able to add grid lines, pinch do zoom, and many more little fun things that make your camera experience amongst the best in the industry. You’ll also be able to continue to edit your photos right from your phone and punch them up to look great for all your social networks and whatnot. Game center is given a boost, those of you using the system will be glad to know that it’s not going anywhere, and tabbed browsing is getting a bump in Safari. Basically we’re going through everything we already knew ab

iPhone 4S confirmed for October 14 launch

Image
It appears that someone in Japan is about to be in big trouble as their front page now features both the soon-to-be-revealed iPhone 4S and what may be a new iPod Nano. This page also lets us know that October 14th will be the launch date for this new iPhone model (at least in Japan) and one step deeper you’ll find that the price has been lowered from 13,800 yen to 10,800 yen. Also note: Apple USA has done some much less suspicious leaking of the same device, this time in uploading images of the iPhone 4S to their servers – of course some intrepid fans found them quickly. You’ll find images of the iPhone 4S to look exactly like the current iPhone 4 images, of course, as the 4S will be only a slight upgrade to the device in a couple of yet-unknown areas. See the first image here: black and white. Take out the S in the URL and you’ll find the images to be NEARLY the same save for some slight adjustments to the icons on the screen. UPDATE: Over in the UK, mobile carrier O2 has apparent
