Julianne Moore to Star in New HBO Series Dope?

Image
Julianne Moore will be playing Sarah Palin in HBO's adaptation of Game Change, based on the Mark Halperin and John Heilemann book that details the 2008 US presidential election. Deadline is reporting that Moore could be extending her time at HBO as it appears that a new Todd Hayes project could land Moore as the lead. The project in question is Dope; a novel written by Sara Gran that tells the story of Josephine "Joe" Flannigan, a heroin addict who decides to get clean and turns to private eye work to get by. Set in 1950s New York the streets are full of dope (as the title of the novel suggests) making this decision to work in a business surrounded by drugs all the more precarious.

Teen Wolf: Who Survived? And What Was Left Of Them?

Image
Okay! So now that I have rinsed the blood from my nails after gripping the edge of my seat during the Teen Wolf season finale, I think I have enough strength to muster through this review of what was a pretty damn good episode of Teen Wolf.

MTV Renews Awkward. for Season 2

Image
What would you do if you went from nobody to notorious overnight? For most high school kids, this would be a dream come true, as being somebody, even someone feared, is better than being nobody, but Jenna Hamilton ( Ashley Rickards ) isn't most high school students. After a series of unfortunate events leads her confined to a cast and having to meet with his guidance counselor Valerie ( Desi Lydic ), Jenna becomes "that girl". Can she handle being on the map for once?

Basketball Wives: "People who throw drinks can't throw hands"

If there's one thing I've learned about reunions for reality TV, it's that they're usually not the best. Rehashing hot topics from the previous season always has the potential for explosive drama, but with commercials, video packages, and host commentary, we very rarely get a chance to go in depth about any one particular topic. As much as I would like to see a truly extended reunion, considering that the shows often tape crazy hours of footage that are reduced down to 42 minutes, I doubt it'll ever happen.

The Lying Game Trailer & Photos: Episode 1.02 "Being Sutton"

Image
ABC Family's newest mysterious teen drama, The Lying Game, premiered this week, but we're already looking to the August 22 episode. Next week, Emma is very worried about Sutton's disappearance and this distraction leads to Emma slipping a bit while trying to impersonate her sister. Emma is concerned that this may lead to the switch being discovered, but her family and friends are actually delighted about the personality shift in "Sutton".

NBC Unveils Posters for 5 New Shows, The Sing-Off

Image
Next month marks the true beginning of the fall season, and NBC is unleashing some pretty cool artwork for five of its new shows, according to EW . The Playboy Club, Prime Suspect, Free Agents, Grimm, and Whitney all got posters. Art for returning reality series The Sing-Off was also released. Of the posters, which you can see below, I have to say that my favorite is the strikingly colored art for The Playboy Club. The smoky blues really seem to work. The dark palette of the Prime Suspect poster, contrasted with the bold white font, almost succeeds, though it could have done without the silly tagline (which actually makes me even less comfortable with this American remake of the innovative British series).

Cee Lo, Lykke Li, Scars on 45 Among Those on the Grey's Anatomy Soundtrack

Image
The first thing I think about when I hear the name Grey's Anatomy isn't McDreamy. It isn't McSteamy, hospital shootings, ever-changing love quadrangles, or even ghost sex. No, my first thought about Grey's Anatomy always goes straight to the music, as the ABC medical drama has utilized music beautifully in its nearly 150 episodes. Getting a song placement on Grey's Anatomy can be a huge thing for an artist's career and you can't say that about too many shows on TV.

Comedy Central Orders Animated Series From Daniel Tosh

Image
Comedy Central has given the greenlight to Brickleberry, an animated show to be written, executive produced by, and featuring Daniel Tosh. The show, which was given a 10 episode first season order, is scheduled to air sometime in 2012. Brickleberry follows a group of dysfunctional park rangers on the job at a local national park as they try to keep it from closing due to their incompetence. It will be joining the three other animated shows currently running on Comedy Central: South Park, Futurama, and Ugly Americans. There's no word on anyone else providing voiceover work for the show, nor has there been any specifics leaked about the animation style. Daniel Tosh, a popular stand-up comedian, is currently the host of Comedy Central's Tosh.0 , a sarcastic look at viral videos and pop culture as a whole that just wrapped its third season. Does Brickleberry sound like something you would watch? How do you think Tosh will be as a voiceover artist?

Fringe: William Sadler Set To Reprise Role From Season 1

Image
Actor William Sadler has confirmed recently that he will return to FOX's critically acclaimed sci-fi drama Fringe to reprise his role as Doctor Bruce Sumner during the upcoming fourth season. "Off to Vancouver and the Fringe shoot. It'll be fun to see Walter again." The actor twitted; later he added that "Fringe shoot was great fun. Always good to see John [Noble]." In case you don't remember who he is, let's refresh your memory. Sadler appeared on Fringe for the first time back in season one during the episode "The Equation", in which his character Sumner attempted to return Walter Bishop (John Noble) to his previous residence at St Claire's psychiatric hospital. Now three seasons later, we're going to see the consequences of Peter's disappearance and deal with the fact that he supposedly never existed (at least according to The Observers). John Noble has revealed that Walter will be "quite insane, agoraphobic [an

The Lying Game Preview: Sneak Peeks & Details of the Series Premiere

Image
ABC Family is on a roll. In addition to the season 2 return of its popular series Pretty Little Liars, the network also had a terrific summer season with the premiere of two new shows: Switched at Birth and The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Tonight is the season premiere of another new series: The Lying Game. The show basically has a built-in audience, as it is based on a book series written by Sara Shepard, who also penned the Pretty Little Liars books. Admittedly, the show's premise is similar to The CW show Ringer, which will be premiering in September. But tonally the shows are quite different, so don't let any comparisons put you off. The Lying Game is a story about two twin sisters - Emma and Sutton - who were separated after being given up for adoption. Emma grew up as a foster kid, surrounded by poverty and skeevy foster brothers, while Sutton grew up with wealthy parents and surrounded by fawning, rich friends. The girls manage to meet over the internet. Soon after

Doctor Who Prequel Episode Released for "Let's Kill Hitler"

Image
For those who can't watch, the episode features the Doctor (Matt Smith) receiving a call from Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) on his answerphone in the TARDIS. There's a funny little reference to the Doctor actually setting the answerphone's message, but then the episode becomes very drab. Amy tells the Doctor that she wants news of his search for her daughter Melody, who was last seen being kidnapped by the evil Madame Kovarian (Frances Barber) at the end of the midseason finale, "A Good Man Goes to War." Amy tells the Doctor she knows that Melody will be fine, since she grows up to be River Song (Alex Kingston), but that she's more worried about losing precious time with her daughter. As this message is being played, we get a dimly lit view of the TARDIS console. The camera pans slowly around until we see the Doctor, staring forlornly ahead, listening to the message before hanging his head in despair. It looks like we'll be in a very interesting place for

The End Is Nigh: When Should TV Shows Plot Their Own Demise?

Image
On Sunday, it was announced that Breaking Bad would be calling it sixteen episodes after its fourth season finale. It made sense; the journey of Walter White had to eventually end. As an almost Shakespearean tragedy of a good man's downfall into evil, the series couldn't risk stagnating without losing dramatic poignancy. An end date ensured that the series would go out on the top of its game, as a cohesive work of fiction that tells a full story. The thing about end dates is that they give a show a beginning and a middle, too. But end dates are commonplace for cable TV. Successful shows on cable networks get to plot their own demises years in advance. Neil Gaiman's upcoming series American Gods on HBO already has decided it will run for six seasons, while AMC's Mad Men is scheduled to end after three more seasons. Rescue Me will air its final episode in September, a few years after FX announced that the show would end after its seventh season.

Dexter Season 6 Promo Poster

Image
The folks over at Showtime have produced yet another humdinger of a Dexter promo poster (see below), emphasizing this year's religious theme. It not only refers to Dexter (Michael C. Hall) as an avenging angel but the blood splatter behind him also gives this distinct impression. This is in addition to the 'Thank God' promo (that can be viewed here) and the new character spoilers that have emerged over the past couple of months.

Big Brother 13: The Second Coming...

Image
After Thursday's Big Brother, fans were screaming left and right about how much they were disappointed in the show after previously evicted House Guest Brendon was voted back in by America and beat Lawon for a spot back in the game. The night was so crazy that the remaining House Guests didn't even get to compete live for the HOH competition, leaving fans guessing who would become the new Head of Household... that is if you didn't subscribe to or read the live feeds. Well tonight we saw the HOH competition in its "entirety," as well as Brendon's "joyous" welcome back into the Big Brother house, but the Vets celebrated a little too early and were shaking in their boots by the end of the night.
