'Veer' Blogging, Khan Beaming…

Image
Salman Khan 's flogging the competition in the cine market and blogging away to glory, as well. Reportedly, Sal Man, the man who loves forging bonds with fans, was diligently writing his blogs as 'Veer'. But the chequered response to his historical flick didn't exactly buoy his spirits. Net result: the shirtless Khan stopped his blogging bit, pronto. But bingo! The flood of responses that he earned, requesting Khan to communicate again, made him do a furious rethink. Suitably impressed and thrilled beyond doubt, 'Veer' Khan is back to being on the write path.

'Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai' is immature

Film: 'Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai' Cast: Vishal, Neetu Chandra , Tanushree Dutta, Sarah Jane, Prakash Raj, Santhanam, Mayilsami and Sathyan; Director: Thiru; Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja; Rating:** 'Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai' (TVP) is Vishal's attempt at a new genre - that of a light entertainer - after his actions flicks failed to evince much interest. 'TVP' could have been a sure-fire entertainer but the director (newcomer Thiru) fails to exploit the plot to make it a smart movie. He has chosen a storyline laced with romance, glamour and fun but has failed to present it in a convincing and interesting manner. Karthik (Vishal), a carefree youth belonging to an upper middle class family, likes having many choices in whatever he does or buys. And he wants to apply the same approach to select his life partner. He wants to love three girls at a time and select the best after interacting with them and knowing them better...It does sound ridiculous.

When ex-007 Pierce Brosnan had to wear tights in new film

Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan has spoken about his experience when he had to get into a pair of tights for his new film Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief. The Hollywood heartthrob was made to fit into the bright blue pair as he played Chiron, a centaur - half man, half horse - in director Chris Columbus' new family action-adventure. "I play a teacher, Professor Brunner, who's a paraplegic philosopher of the gods and then he goes into this 'other' world where he becomes this powerful horse's a*s," the Mirror quoted Brosnan as saying. "Christopher, he was a clever b****r - he sent me this script with a beautiful artist's impression of me as Chiron, looking great and fantastic and brilliantly buffed and I thought 'I'm goood, this is splendid!' "So, of course I said 'yes' and then we came to the moment of glory (filming the scenes) and I've got good leather straps here and there (pointing to his chest) and buckl

The 36-year-old actress' father-in-law, actor Amitabh Bachchan , posted on his blog: 'Aishwarya had a restful day and there seems to be a slight improvement in her condition. Dreamy melodies for the Valentine's Day

On this beautiful day, when everything around you talks of love, listen to these all-time romantic melodies by holding your loved one near you… Cinema gave the great liberty of expressing love feelings through songs, when only Carnatic and devotional songs entertained people in those days. Through cinema we got to know the timeless romance between two souls and people started to accept love step by step. There were days when love was looked upon as a crime. Today, the society has changed itself a lot and cinema can be called as the main reason for this. From the days when birds kissing and roses winding towards each other were shown to express an intimate scene, cinema gave a variety of love tales according to the era. We have become robotic these days, and a little of love and romance will prove a great overhauling for our tired minds. Get on with us to celebrate this season of love with these soothing numbers. “Masilla Unmai Kadhale” from ‘Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum’ will take y

Popular Romantic Pairs of Tamil Cinema

Image
A feeling that is inseparable for both the actors and their fans; an emotion that sticks to the actors and their co-artistes during their career- Love and Romance, two assets that are imperative to Tamil Cinema. Be it the usual story line – the brave hero wooing the heroine or the innocent heroine falling for the hero, love stories in Tamil cinema have offered the fans a lot to relate in real life. Though love stories started way back when cinema itself was created, the idea of on screen couple and fans following them as demigods started after the revolutionary MGR. MGR- Saroja Devi Undoubtedly one of Tamil cinema’s evergreen hit pair is MGR and Saroja Devi. Their on-screen chemistry was simply magical and charming. MGR was known for his graceful dance and marvelous fights while the beautiful Saroja Devi with her endearing smile complemented him. Golden movies like Anbe Vaa, Naadodi Mannan, Enga Veetu Pillai, etc. reflect their screen presence. MGR's seaside romances with Saroja

Heroic Villains

Image
The demand for good villains in Kollywood is fast on the rise. So previously heroes are turning villains subsequently. Prasanna did the change over in Anjathey and continues in Bana Kathadi. Sibi Raj turned anti hero with Nanayam and doesn’t mind continuing in the new role but of course only for reputed directors. Rajeev Krishna, the innocent hero of ‘Aaha’ did a negative role in Newtonin Moontraam Vidhi. And after ‘Aasal’ Rajeev Krishna is flooded with offers for negative roles. The new entrant in the group is Ramana who plays a villain in ‘Thottupaar’. Even the 80s heartthrobs are turning villains today. Suman made a mark with Sivaji and went on to do more. The bubble gum romantic hero of Panneer Pushpangal, Suresh is again in the reckoning after ‘Kizhakku Kadarkarai Salai’ with ‘Asal’ as a villain. The latest in the series may be little disturbing. Director –Actor Bhagiyaraj has also turned a villain in a film directed by Brinda Sarathy.

Kamal to leave city

Image
When appeals are being made to the government to rename the famous Eldams Road in Chennai to Dr. Kamal Haasan Road, the man himself seems to have other plans. Kamal Haasan fans may not be able to call their super star ‘Alwarpettai Andava’ any more as Kamal will be shifting his residence from the bustling Eldams Road to a serene bungalow in the outskirts of Sholinganallur. The Sholinganallur home will have most of the things Kamal cannot live without. A preview Theatre, a Swimming Pool, a Joggers Park, an ultra-modern gym, a modern art gallery they are all there according to sources. Some solace to the fans is that Kamal will continue to use his Eldams Road house for all his official affairs in Rajkamal Productions. So he will remain ‘Alwarpettai Andava’ for some more time.

Google asks the NSA for help: Smart decision

Recently Sam Diaz and Tom Foremski became concerned with this story first published in the Washington Post , about an agreement between Google and the National Security Agency that would help identify what went wrong and how to potentially defend against future attacks that occurred in December at Google’s facilities in China. Sam wasn’t shy on his concerns; In part, this is troublesome because a dark cloud over the NSA was born under a different political climate, one where there was widespread distrust about the government’s intrusion into private lives, with any sort of poaching of individual rights hiding under the “We’re fighting a war against terror” argument. Secondly, this bothers me because Google is turning to the government for help in protecting the infrastructure. I mean no disrespect to my country or my government but I have to ask: Is Washington really the best choice if you’re looking for help with something as serious as cyber security. After all, I wouldn’t exact

Tracking down those XP crashes: Could the cause be malware?

he Microsoft Security Response Center, in a new blog post published 25 minutes after I published this post , acknowledged that the issues identified here are real: “In our continuing investigation in to the restart issues related to MS10-015 that a limited number of customers are experiencing, we have determined that malware on the system can cause the behavior. We are not yet ruling out other potential causes at this time and are still investigating.” It’s also worth noting in that blog post that Microsoft support engineers have actually “driven to customer locations and picked up affected systems” to get the crash dumps they needed. Based on some posts in newsgroups, several news outlets have reported that a Windows patch was causing the Blue Screen of Death for Windows XP users. As my colleague Mary Jo Foley noted yesterday , Microsoft has temporarily withdrawn update MS10-015 (KB977165) while it investigates the reports. That is a reasonable response, but before you Windows-h

7 reasons to move on from ageing, tired Windows XP

Image
There is no doubt that Adrian Kingsley-Hughes has passion for what he does, and his latest post in regards to sticking with Windows XP certainly made me chuckle . But we have to face facts that Windows XP is now in excess of nine years old, and should have ran past its self-by-date Stick with what you know It’s old and tired That dazzling blue interface was revolutionary for Microsoft and incredibly bold of the company to go so bright and cheerful, almost. But with the temptation of “floating” glass windows , transparency and clarity in the newer versions of Windows, you barely need to learn anything new. You should just be able to start Vista or 7 for the first time and be guided through everything , and comfortable enough using your prior knowledge to get everything out of it that you had with XP. Certainty New and improved certainty Windows 7 packs more drivers in and even Ubuntu has started supporting incredibly powerful hardware, should drivers be written by a community m

'Vimukthi' - parallel cinema at its best

Film: 'Vimukthi'; Director: P. Sheshadri; Cast: Bhavana, Ramakrishna, Eknath Nagarkar, Venkata Rao, Hoda and Baby Sania Iyer; Music: Praveen Godkindi; Rating:**** National Award winning film 'Vimukthi', which has released now in a few theatres in Bangalore, is certainly one of the best by director P. Sheshadri, who takes up stories revolving around contemporary social and political issues. 'Vimukthi', written by Sheshadri himself, is based on a Kannada newspaper article published a couple of years ago. It relates to the sick inmates of Mukthi Bhavan in Varanasi who are waiting for their death and their last rites are performed by volunteers there. All these inmates are either deserted by their own relatives or have come to Varanasi on their own to die in the holy temple town. Taking cue from the article, Sheshadri has created a story of a young woman who is not just very close to her father but very possessive about him. Sheshadri has written the

Kim Cattrall would have been fine without 'Sex and the City'

Hollywood actress Kim Cattrall says she would have been fine without the television series 'Sex and the City'. The 53-year-old actress, who won her role in the series about a group of four friends in New York at the age of 42, claims that although the show turned her from a jobbing actress to a household name, she would have been happy even without the success it has brought, femalefirst.co.uk reports. 'If it hadn't come along, I think I'd have been alright too. I'd have a really good, strong, journeyman actress career. That would have been fine,' she said.

Zeta-Jones faces protest from animal rights activists

Animal rights activists will gather to protest against Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones' love for fur coats when she performs in her Broadway play 'A Little Night Music' Saturday. Zeta-Jones' controversial wardrobe choices and animal skin accessories have landed her at the top-worst dressed poll by officials of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), reported contactmusic.com. 'With her creepy cow-skin pants, ugly fox coat, and icky alligator bag, Catherine Zeta-Jones looks like she's working her way through Noah's ark with a knife. Maybe she's trying to get into character for an upcoming role as a serial killer or a taxidermist,' said a PETA official. Zeta-Jones is not the only star to come under fire. Jennifer Lopez, Aretha Franklin, Rihanna, Jessica Simpson and mother and daughter duo Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson also earn mentions on the list.

No 'MNIK' row if Bollywood had unity: Anurag Kashyap

Director Anurag Kashyap says the Hindi film industry lacks integrity and that if Bollywood had united, the ruckus created by the Shiv Sena over Shah Rukh Khan 's 'My Name is Khan' could have been avoided. 'If it is considered to be an industry, people should have unity among themselves. At least once, they should unite and show that we are working, we are also professionals. They never do that so these people dare and take advantage of it,' Kashyap told IANS. The Shiv Sena had opposed the film's release after Shah Rukh Khan refused to apologise for saying that Pakistani cricketers should have been included in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. Sena activists had vandalised several theatres in Mumbai that were to screen 'My Name Is Khan', which also stars Kajol . 'Bigger the star you fight with, higher the media attention you draw. They make use of it too. Nothing...you need not to go to Australia or Pakistan and die in thei

I've no ego, will clear misunderstanding with Thackerays: Shah Rukh

Satish Kaushik: Bees Saal Baad

If patience is a virtue, and surely it is, no one exemplifies it better than filmmaker Satish Kaushik . The actor-director has a crucial role to play in the upcoming film ROAD MOVIE. It's learnt that the actor had to wait for 20 years to get a chance to work with Dev Benegal, the director of the film. It was really something touching because I never expected him to remember his promise." Talking about his act in the film, Kaushik adds, "Let me tell you clearly that I'm first an actor and later a director. I love my rugged look in the film and hope the audiences too would love it." MNIK opens in 119 theatres across US to mixed reviews

Dogged by controversy back home, Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'My Name Is Khan' opened in 119 theatres across North America with an enthusiastic response from the South Asian community and a mixed reception from the press. 'At its best 'My Name Is Khan,' set mainly in America, is an affecting fairy tale about the perils of goodness,' said The New York Times as the mainstream US press also took note of the 'a firestorm surrounded the film's release on Friday' in India. 'The message of 'My Name Is Khan,' an effective exercise in Bollywood high emotionalism, is less political than movie-ish: there are two kinds of people in the world, good and bad, a distinction more important than any other differences, like those between Hindus and Muslims,' the influential US daily said in a review published Saturday. ''Khan'is one of a handful of Hindi films ('New York,' 'Kurbaan') about Indians living in a paranoid, pos

Karan Johar: There is good amount of ignorance around religion

With a rather uncharacteristic absence from the movie making scene courtesy his back problem, Shah Rukh promises to carry on from where he left his last blockbuster RAB NE BANA DI JODI behind and gets into a different zone altogether in MY NAME IS KHAN. Karan Johar too lends a big helping hand by transporting Raj/Rahul from the world of 'Maahi Ve' and 'Pretty Woman' to Rizvan who sets himself on one eventful journey with the sound of 'Sajda' playing not so far away. No wonder, he makes a solid impression as he exclaims in a subtle yet stern, confident and hurt tone - MY NAME IS KHAN.... and I am not a terrorist'. "Indeed no, MY NAME IS KHAN has nothing to do with terrorism. It is all about a wrong perception which, I don't know for what reason, has been built around the film", says Karan Johar for whom this film has been a huge challenge by itself. "The film is about Rizwan who is a Muslim with an Asperger syndrome. He moves from Mumbai

German fans made us forget about crisis back home: Karan Johar

Shah Rukh Khan's innumerable German fans slept all night on the street outside the superstar's hotel in Berlin in minus 10 degrees cold and snow and kept singing 'Om Jai Jagadish Hare' and the 'Jana Gana Mana' in the hope of a darshan, says Karan Johar, the director of 'My Name is Khan'. 'When Shah Rukh went and met them, they went home warm. And so did we. For that short while, when I saw all that love come towards us, I forgot about the crisis (back in India over the movie),' Karan Johar told IANS in an interview here. Karan Johar is in Berlin with Shah Rukh and Kajol for the red carpet premiere of 'My Name is Khan' at the Berlinale Palast. No plan to rename 'Tees Maar Khan': Producer

There were reports that the title of 'Tees Maar Khan' may go through a change as lead actor Akshay Kumar was not happy with it. But producer Shirish Kunder says the whole controversy was 'fabricated'. 'Perhaps pages were required to be filled in and a news around our film made for a spicy story. I guess someone just fabricated an entire article about Akshay being unhappy with the title,' said Kunder about the film which will be directed by his wife, Farah Khan . The filmmaker, who has earlier directed Akshay in 'Jaan-E-Mann', said: 'Do you know that most of the compliments that we have received so far on the film have been around the title? There is no point changing it since it truly reflects the spirit of the film. If it had to change, it would have happened by now.' Many felt that the word Khan in the title would indicate some kind of connection with one of the top 'Khan' actors, something that didn't quite amuse Akshay.

Says Bipasha, "I missed him when I was under attack in Delhi. He has been a pillar of strength throughout the making and marketing of my fitness video. John is always there for everything I do. Being a Capricorn I like to do everything on my own. Emotionally I need tremendous support from all my loved ones including my parents and John. But when it comes to my work I'm fiercely independent. I'll only take advice from someone who shares my passion, like John does." John would be up in the middle of the night helping Bipasha with the video. Fondly the lady in love says, "I'd be up at 3 am scripting my video and I'd poke him awake to get his feedback. He would give his inputs no matter how tired or sleepy. He has been a great help. He's always there for me.
