Ballmer: Windows partners knew Surface was coming

Image
Microsoft warned PC manufacturers that it was planning its own range of Surface tablets, CEO Steve Ballmer has confirmed, giving them advance notice it would be challenging them on their own turf. ”Our PC partners knew in advance we were announcing something today in this space” Ballmer told  AllThingsD  in the aftermath of the Surface reveal, a pair of Windows-based slates targeting the iPad and enterprise markets, though the chief exec declined to comment on the reaction those OEMs had. That reaction, though, isn’t expected to have been especially positive. Microsoft has taken the Surface back to tablet basics, somewhat at odds with the hybrids and other form-factors OEMs experimented with at Computex. Having the developer of the underlying OS also challenge you with hardware products jostling for consumer  attention is arguably not what Acer, Samsung and others were hoping for when they signed on for Windows RT. Still, Ballmer is keen to stress that Surface isn’t the s

Ex AT&T worker admits to selling iPhone secrets to traders

Image
A former AT&T employee admitted this week that he sold company secrets such as sales numbers for Apple’s popular iPhone smartphone to traders. Traders then turned around and bought AT&T stock-based on the illegally obtained information. The former employee in question is a 57-year-old Alnoor Ebrahim. Ebrahim is facing charges of insider trading and is said to have been part of an expert-network ring where some employees of firms such as Primary Global Research helped funnel corporate secrets from consultants to hedge fund managers who then allegedly purchased stock based on the information. The man pled guilty to a single count of conspiracy to commit wire and securities fraud. Ebrahim made a plea agreement with Manhattan federal prosecutors, and the recommended punishment was a maximum of two years in prison. The federal government is cracking down on insider trading and has recently been filing charges, including last week’s case filed against former Goldman S

Wacom shipping Bamboo Splash for $79

Image
Wacom has introduced a new budget pen and tablet combo into its line, the Bamboo Splash. The company says that the Splash includes the same pressure sensitive technology found across its whole range, and that this new combo is aimed at those wanting to create digital art on a budget. The hardware comes with a software bundle that will include ArtRage Studio and SketchBook Express. ArtRage is a painting application that will leverage the pressure sensitivity of the pen combined with the Wacom surface (up to 1024 levels), while SketchBook Express will allow users to draw and sketch doodles or ideas using multiple tools, such as pens or brushes. Wacom say that the Bamboo Splash works with both Macs and PCs, and is also compatible with Windows 8 when it ships in the Fall. The orientation of the surface can be tweaked to cater to left and right handed users and the active area will span 5.8-inches by 3.6-inches. The Bamboo Splash retails for $79 and is available to purchase ri

Flipboard gets Google+ integration with new APIs

Image
Google has announced a deal with Flipboard to open up Google+ content to the social news app for iOS and Android, with a special API that can both write and read content on the social network. The news was confirmed by Google+ lead Bradley Horowitz at the LeWeb conference in London today. Flipboard launched initially on the iPhone and iPad, though recently hit Android with an exclusive on the Galaxy S III and the promise of a more widespread version for all Android device users. As well as pulling in content from RSS feeds, as with traditional news reader apps, Flipboard also allows users to log into their Facebook and Twitter accounts and see popularly shared stories as well as those flagged up by those they’re friends with and/or follow. It’s that type of functionality which will tie Google+ into Flipboard with the new API. Exact details for the integration are unclear,  but Google+ posts including text and multimedia will all be accessible from within the app. Ho

Microsoft Surface tablet keynote video goes live

Image
The full video of Microsoft’s Surface tablet keynote has been released, allowing keen tableteers to pick through the details of the Windows RT slate pair. The 45 minute presentation was something of a coup for Microsoft, with the company having managed to keep the bulk of its new tablet details from leaking prior to the event. If you want to see Steve Ballmer triumphantly flaunting a 9.3mm slice of Windows RT-based magnesium, you’ve come to the right place. Microsoft Surface tablet live demo: Microsoft has two Surface models for the moment, though there’s always the potential for more since “Surface” is the umbrella brand not an individual product name. The Windows RT model is targeting the iPad consumer market, while the Pro version – slightly thicker and with a Full HD screen – is hoping to pick up a share of the ultrabook market. Microsoft Surface promo: As we discovered in our own hands-on, there’s plenty to like about the Surface’s industrial desi

ZTE unveils Grand X LTE T82 single-chip smartphone

Image
ZTE Corporation has unveiled its latest smart phone, and its first single-chip LTE device. The smartphone is called the Grand X LTE (T82), and the device was unveiled at CommunicAsia2012. The smartphone will launch in Asia-Pacific and Europe in Q3 of 2012. Under the hood, the device uses the latest MSM8960 chip from QUALCOMM. That chip uses advanced 0.28 nm technology and promises longer battery life and better performance thanks to having a single chip that is faster and more energy-efficient. The smartphone has integrated Wi-Fi and runs Android 4.0 as the operating system. The processor is a 1.5 GHz dual core unit, and the device has an eight-megapixel rear camera that supports full HD video recording. The smartphone front camera supports 720p HD video calls. The LTE connectivity inside the phone supports downloads at up to 100 mbps and it has a 1900 mAh battery. Pricing is unannounced for the phone at this time. The company also showed off a new tablet called the V96

Google denies Street View charges as senator snipes at spy planes

Image
Last week, the U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office reopened its Street View privacy investigation following the FCC’s findings in the United States. In a letter penned to Google, the ICO believes it was misled, with Google stating at the time that it wasn’t a deliberate data collection attempt and that no engineers had knowledge of the issue. Google has now responded to questions laid out by the ICO in the latest letter. The ICO is said to have asked seven new questions relating to the WiFi data collection performed by Street View vehicles between 2007 and 2010. Questions asked ranged from when managers discovered the data breach to why Google only handed over a limited amount of data relating to the case. In a response, Google says that nothing has changed since the original UK investigation in 2010, and that it handed over all the necessary information. Responding to allegations that data handed over was “pre-prepared”, Google said: “[A] number of statements and assu

Ben Heck creates custom toilet illuminator

Image
There is an age-old problem for many guys of all ages when it comes to taking a wiz at night. Some guys and younger boys just can’t seem to make it into the toilet when they pee in the dark. That means you have to listen to your wife or significant other complain the next day that someone hit the lid. Ben Heck has the answer to this with his latest project dubbed the  toilet illuminator . I think you might need separate toilets for the men and the women in the house for this thing to work well. It doesn’t look that comfortable for the ladies who may have to sit down on the cord circling the toilet seat opening. It looks rather like those glowing necklaces my daughter wears. You don’t even have to turn this particular light on and off. It uses a plain bathmat, carbon conductive paint, foam spacers, and plywood to create a pressure-sensitive mat that automatically turns the light on when you walk up. If you want to build one for yourself, Heck walks you through it.

Microsoft Surface could debut MagSafe-data hybrid hook-up

Image
Microsoft could have already implemented the combination magnetic power/data connector it attempted to patent, with a similar-looking connection spotted on the new Surface tablet. The four-pin port is on the right lower edge of the new tablets, and seemingly matches up with the MagSafe-like connector detailed in a patent application from the company. If so, that could mean a single hook-up for recharging the Surface and synchronizing it with other devices. Microsoft’s patent application followed in the footsteps of Apple’s magnetic charger system – which allows the cord to break away easily if someone trips over it, rather than yanking your laptop off the desk – but added in a data connection. With just one port, the Surface could be hooked up to both a charger and other external hardware, with an optical data link used for maximum speed potential. The potential for such a connection is vast. Microsoft has been coy about external device support for Surface, only me

Apple grabs Liquidmetal exclusivity for another two years

Image
Apple has secured a further two year exclusivity deal for the Liquidmetal materials technology tipped to make an appearance in the 2012 iPhone refresh, government filings have confirmed. According to Liquidmetal Technologies’ SEC filing, Apple’s original agreement with the company back in August 2010 – and which expired in early February – has been extended until early February 2014, giving Apple alone access to any of the company’s developments. “All intellectual property held by Crucible Intellectual Property, LLC is exclusively licensed on a perpetual basis to Apple for the field of use of consumer electronic products under the MTA” the SEC filing reads. “Under the Amendment, the parties agreed to amend the MTA to extend the February 5, 2012 date to February 5, 2014.” Apple has so far been sparing with its actual use of Liquidmetal in shipping products. The company used the technology – which counts being stronger than other alloys among its charms – for the SIM remova

Nokia 808 PureView unlocked $699 presales in US this week

Image
Nokia has confirmed that the 41-megapixel  808 PureView  smartphone will see a release in the US, though without the subsidy that most cellphone buyers are used to. The Symbian-based cameraphone will be made available unlocked and SIM-free, priced at $699 and supporting AT&T’s 3G network  (or T-Mobile USA’s 2G network) . Update: Nokia now says the 808 PureView actually supports 3G on T-Mobile USA, not just 2G. That limitation on connectivity is down to the 3G radio bands the 808 PureView supports; unsurprisingly, there’s no way of using the Nokia on Verizon or other CDMA carriers. Otherwise you get the usual WiFi and Bluetooth, NFC and HDMI, a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen and 16GB of onboard storage along with a microSD card slot. If you’re not willing to cough up that sort of cash – or if Symbian is the key turn-off – then Nokia has again reconfirmed its intentions of bringing PureView technology (though not necessarily the 41-megapixel sensor) to future Lumia Windo

Imperva study finds CAPTCHA should be replaced by games

Image
We’ve all been there. No matter how good your vision is, if you spend any amount of time on a computer, you’ve had at least one experience of not being able to read what the heck those garbled inhuman words on those CAPTCHA screens are supposed to be. Now, a company called Imperva says there needs to be a new standard that will alleviate frustration from both website owners and end users. Exactly in line with an initiative by a company called Are You A Human, Imperva wants to take the tedium and annoyance out of CAPTCHA and turn it into a game. Not only will these be more engaging for users, but they’ll also be nearly unhackable. There are already programs that exist that can hack many CAPTCHA providers. So Imperva believes that by forcing users to play a very quick micro-game, it’s a win-win. “Human-based CAPTCHA solving services pose a serious threat to Web security and challenge the whole concept of CAPTCHAs. They were originally intended to distinguish humans from c

Sharp’s 90-inch Aquos is largest LED TV to date

Image
Videophiles know that Sharp demands quality. It may not have the largest market share in the TV business, but its range of Aquos television sets are revered, and for good reason. Now, the company is differentiating itself by offering the world’s first commercially available 90-inch LED HDTV. The question is – do you live somewhere where owning a 90-inch TV would actually make sense? The LC-90LE745U of course also has built-in WiFi and numerous Internet-connected apps for users to have immediate access to online and streaming content. It has Active 3D technology, along with Sharp’s proprietary AquoMotion 240 technology and Full Array LED. “This 90” Class (90-1/64” diagonal) model with brushed aluminum black bezel features our 1080p 3D full array LED panel, delivering one of the most natural, vibrant pictures available,” Sharp boasts. The world of LED TVs has been the one segment of the competitive TV market that has actually proven to be reliable and truly a new standard

Coin to put Square through its paces

Image
Square has enjoyed a pretty long run as the de facto platform for individuals and small businesses to accept plastic with absolutely no friction. But as the company grows and grows, we all know that it’s only a matter of time before new startups come out of the woodwork to try to take it down. Enter Coin, a brand new mobile credit card acceptance platform that promises a lower processing fee than Square. To accept a debit or credit card through Coin will cost the merchant 2.55%, which is 20-basis points lower than Square. Of course, this is kind of like people who gripe about seeing a gas station with $0.02/gallon cheaper gas after they fill up – in practical terms, you aren’t going to see a change. But people like knowing they got the best deal possible even if it has no impact at all on their life. Oh, and yes, the decision to name the company after an object that is very much non-Square was intentional. Just check out this snippet from Coin’s website – “So you can se

Ikea Uppleva TV hits Europe for around $1K

Image
The Ikea TV has become a thing of reality. The device, known as the Uppleva, is now on sale at Ikea stores in the company’s home country of Sweden. There were a few details for the TV that only became known once it was actually released. For example, it has 1080p HD resolution, is compatible with MP3, MP4, DivX HD, and JPG files, and comes with a built-in DVR. Also on the way is a built-in commerce platform which will work like this – a commercial starts to air on TV, and if it supports the Ikea online shopping system, users can push a button on their remote during the commercial to buy an advertised product or service. And if you think about it, it’s this kind of technology that could usher in the TV commercial industry in the way that many companies have been hoping for. It also has apps. Among the apps that have been confirmed are YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion. The TV will feature around 20 apps in total, with some variation depending on which country you buy it i

Microsoft Surface Touch Cover vs Type Cover hands-on

Image
There are two different covers for the  Microsoft Surface  tablets revealed today, both of them able to cover up and protect the front of the tablet but each of them with different abilities in their keys. The biggest difference between the two is the way the keys work – while the Type Cover has moving keys while the Touch Cover is capacitive instead. The Touch Cover is also a bit thinner, while the Type Cover will likely cost a bit more – and both have been introduced right alongside the Microsoft Surface tablets as their best companions. Both covers will work with both of the two different devices, the Windows RT Surface and the Windows 8 Pro Surface, and both covers will be available for purchase as soon as the Windows RT device is released. We’ve got no information on the pricing behind these keyboard covers, and no information yet on if they’ve got the ability to add (or subtract) battery life from the tablets. These keyboards bring on a fair stab at what 3rd p

Microsoft Surface Windows RT confirmed with NVIDIA’s Tegra processor

Image
While Microsoft announced two new  Surface PC  tablets today at their event in LA, one thing they didn’t make clear was the processor under the hood powering one of their new slates. The Windows 8 Pro model will be significantly thicker and run an Intel Ivy Bridge 22nm processor but the thin 9.3mm device we got hands-on withwill be powered by an ARM chipset. NVIDIA has just confirmed it will be running their Tegra chipset. NVIDIA has just issued a rather short note confirming that their Tegra processor will be under the hood and powering the smooth and fluid Windows 8 RT model. They didn’t specify which Tegra processor as expected, but we are speculating it will be the quad-core Tegra 3 KAI platform, or the Tegra 3+ that was detailed as coming soon in a lot more than just Android devices. Most Windows Phone devices as of late have been powered by Qualcomm processors, like the Lumia 900, so this could be another change from Microsoft. NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processo

Microsoft Surface Tablet Hands-on [video]

Image
Microsoft has just finished unveiling their new tablet called  Microsoft Surface  at their big Major Announcement event today — and here it is! They mentioned re-imagining Windows, and now doing the same for the tablet. These new Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro Surface tablets looks pretty impressive, and Microsoft was kind enough to give us a quick hands-on. Lets take a look. As soon as you hold the tablet the lightweight magnesium frame feels nice in the hand, coming in at only 1.5 lbs and has a smooth PVD finish. The 10.6-inch 1366 x 768 display looked clear and crisp at multiple angles and the tablet is also quite thin being only 9.3mm in thickness as we detailed here. The Windows 8 Pro model will by powered by Intel’s Ivy Bridge 22nm processors, while Windows RT will run on an ARM chipset. The first thing that comes to mind is how impressive the thin and sleek 9.3mm chassis is considering they’ve also integrated a built-in stand to the magnesium body that easily opens for

Microsoft Surface pricing and release details dropped

Image
This week the folks at Microsoft have revealed that they’ll be bringing forward a couple of tablets, both of the from the  Microsoft Surface  family. These tablets will have keyboard covers, full touch displays, Windows RT or Windows 8 Pro, and will be priced to sell. The actual prices have not yet been revealed, but Microsoft has been clear that they’ll be “near ultrabook class PCs” as it were. These devices will be released sometime this summer – again, Microsoft not being entirely clear when they’ll be pushed out, in both 32 and 64GB configurations. The Windows 8 Pro version of the Surface will be out 3 months after the Windows RT version, and both will be competing directly from the Microsoft manufacturing plant. These devices will both be developed and manufactured by Microsoft, and will be released by them as well. Have a peek at our timeline of Surface products below, and stay tuned for our hands-on look at the devices soon!

Microsoft Surface to feature digital ink stylus support

Image
Microsoft has just taken the wraps off of their new tablet being called  Microsoft Surface . Along with an impressively thin 9mm thin chassis, a built-in keyboard “smart case” and more they’ve also just shared a little bit about their plans with stylus support and digital ink. More details below from their event live. Microsoft’s new Surface actually features two digitizers instead of a single one like most tablets. At the event live they said it best by stating, “This surface has two digitizers. One for touch, one for digital ink.” All stylus or pen input is converted into digital ink and the new Surface tablet is extremely responsive and accurate. The distance between the screen (digitizer) and the stylus is only .7mm thick, and allows for it to be highly accurate, making you feel like the ballpoint of a pen is actually writing on the “surface”. Surface will see the proximity of a stylus and stop recognizing hand inputs. We’ve seen this before with the HTC Flyer tablet

Microsoft Surface for Windows 8 Pro revealed

Image
This week it appears that Microsoft is bringing on more than one new tablet to their own hardware lineup with not just the  Microsoft Surface  for Windows RT, but a Surface for Windows 8 Pro as well. This next-generation device is made for professionals, so Microsoft’s Michael Anguilo says, and is less than 2 pounds, less than 14mm thick, and comes with a high-resolution ClearType display. This Windows 8 Pro version of the Microsoft Surface tablet comes with the same lovely kickstand we saw for the first Surface device revealed this week, and is made of the same materials as well. The same accessories will work here, and Anguilo let the world know that this device will be using less power than today’s (3rd Gen) Intel Core i5 chips. This tablet introduced its own “Perimeter Venting” so as not to get too hot, works with Pen input (with digital ink, explained in a different post), and has a display that’s just 0.7mm from the glass that covers it. The Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Surface cover doubles as built-in keyboard

Image
Microsoft has just announced what we’ve been waiting for this afternoon, and that is  Microsoft Surface  — their new tablet. Coming in with a 10.6-inch screen and all only 9.3mm thin this Windows 8 tablet sure looks neat. What impressed us however is their innovative new “smart cover,” and this is something we can really call smart because it has a keyboard built-in. The details are still rather light at the moment but the new Microsoft Surface tablet seems to be quite similar to Apple’s smart cover only it is actually smart here. It attaches with the same magnetic feature and wraps around giving the edge a smooth book-like feeling in the hand. Their new case doubles as a full-out computer accessory with a complete multitouch keyboard, trackpad and more. “Just as we’ve re-imagined Windows, we have a vision for the tablet.” All of this neatly folds out and goes from safely protecting your tablet, to making you have a complete computing experience at your fingertips. The ent

Microsoft Surface tablet details revealed

Image
This week Microsoft has revealed a tablet version of their  Microsoft Surface  brand, bringing on a device thats 9.3mm thin with edges beveled at 22 degrees and working with Windows 8 with full touch interactivity. This device weighs in at 1.5 pounds, is made with a magnesium case, and has a lovely PVD finish. Inside you’ll find access to Windows apps for Music, Movies, and multimedia of all kinds, and it all comes in on a 10.6-inch display. This device is silver metal on the back, has an extremely thin bezel on the front, and in-all looks to be a lovely tablet – but we’ll have to wait and see how far it gets in a world full of tablets already. This is the first time Microsoft has presented a device exactly like this, and with backing from app developers big-name brands like Netflix, we’re very likely going to see a healthy fight from the big M.

Microsoft Surface re-introduced as a handheld tablet

Image
This week Microsoft has re-introduced their own creation as a smaller version of itself: Microsoft Surface in the form of a handheld tablet. It was Steve Ballmer himself that came onstage at the start of this event, beginning his talk with a bit of a teaser with “cloud computing and entertainment” and ending up letting us know the big bang right from the start: “and in all that we’ve done, Windows is the heart and soul.” Ballmer let the audience know that Windows in all powers 1 billion computers (and more, we must assume) across the earth, and that “Windows 8 re-imagines the product.” Ballmer souped up the software and let us know that Windows 8 was about to keep with Microsoft’s core values while expanding their horizons. In starting with talk like “It was always clear that what our software could do would require us to push hardware, sometimes where our partners hadn’t envisioned,” Ballmer perhaps attempted to surprise the audience with the following: “Our number 1

Microsoft makes another tablet tease pre-event

Image
Today while in wait before the Microsoft “Major Announcement” media event began, the screens up front showed no less than what we may well have called early on: tablets. The sounds of Gotye brought on bright shapes and clear 16:9 ratios in rectangles pushing up and down the screen at Milk Studios as we awaited what we’ve been tipped (before the event) would be either a Windows 8 Surface device or a Windows RT tablet. It’s that or a new Xbox handheld, ladies and gentlemen. We’re seeing screens with one solid rectangle and one dotted-line rectangle, one next to the other. Either this is a dual-screen tablet (probably not) or we’re going to see some conceptual software with mirroring action. Or a virtualization of Windows 8 in some form or another. Bright lights and black and white outlines galore! Of course there’s still always the idea that this could be a software release. Stay tuned as we continue down the rabbit hole with Microsoft presenting their next big thing.

Samsung Galaxy S III USA carrier prices and dates collected

Image
This month we’re getting more and more excited about the eventual USA release of the  Samsung Galaxy S III than ever before – so much so that it seems like a perfect time to make a list of each of the places we’ll be seeing the device pop up. Let’s have a look at how Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and U.S. Cellular are going to be pushing the device this summer, and let’s decide on which carrier we’re going to go with in the end – or at least here before we actually get to see the devices for ourselves. What you see below is not entirely definitive, but based on what we know thus far, it’s as true to the final details as we’re going to get before we get there. Start with each carrier’s prices, move on through the details on their release dates, and make sure to take note of their network speed brands, because believe it or not, 4G doesn’t always mean the same thing. Prices: • AT&T 16GB $199, 32GB $249 • Verizon 16GB $199, 32GB $249 • T-Mobile Unknown • U.S. Cellular 16GB $1

Infinitec Pocket TV Android dongle gets pre-release bump

Image
Inside the Infinitec Pocket TV HDMI device is Android 4.0 and the ability to rock and roll on your HDTV – what you’ll find in addition to that now that it’s had a pre-release update is a massive 1GB of RAM. This device has also settled on a final design as it heads to the actual web-based market after its humble beginnings on Kickstarter. You’ll find a mini USB port on the side of the device and it has a promise to be able to handle “the next versions of Android” including what we assume will be an upgrade by the end of the year – supposing Google I/O brings on another boost. This device is able to handle Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right this minute and will come with the ability to connect to IR Remote or Air Remote (included with the package) for some ultra-easy controlling of the content on your screen. Kind of like a remote control! Actually implementing such abilities as you’re seeing here is a whole heck of a lot more difficult than it seems, but lucky for you, the purcha

China’s first female astronaut heads to space

Image
This week marks the first in which China will have sent a woman to space – in this case to the temporary space station Tiangong 1. This space module is approximately the size of a city bus and is currently floating 200 miles above the Earth, with astronaut Liu Yang aboard it. She was joined by two male astronauts and traveled to the space station in the spacecraft Shenzhou 9 this weekend. Yang is a 34-year old air force pilot and will be working with her co-pilots to monitor the life support systems of the Tiangong 1 module for 10 days. This mission marks more than just a landmark in the history of China, it brings about the next generation for humanity as well. Not only has China moved a bit forward with their acceptance of females as viable members of our society, they’re making what appears to be a rather large leap this week towards creating another sustainable, independently maintained space station in orbit around our Earth. Currently the USA has a space station that’

Apple devs ready for display boost says Piper Jaffray

Image
This past week at WWDC 2012, Apple’s big developer conference for the year, analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray polled 100 developers on what they thought about a possible larger display in the iPhone 5. This discussion was expanded with talk of a possible iPad Mini, this expanding the number of displays that an iOS developer would potentially have to create apps for to 4 or more, this one heck of a lot more than ever before for Apple’s mobile operating system. It appears that on average, the iOS developer says that difficulty moving to an environment with more display sizes would be a 3.4 out of 10. This result suggests, of course, that a larger display for the iPhone and a smaller display for the iPad would be a definite possibility if this was all Apple was considering for said devices. Munster wrote a note to investors saying: “Given the relative ease expected by developers for utilizing potential new iOS screen sizes, we believe the introduction of new screen sizes wo

Microsoft Xbox Surface predicted back in 2010

Image
If you’ve got a rather good memory and do truly believe that the engineers who create devices like the Xbox and the operating system Windows are that good, it does appear likely that Microsoft leaked today’s Special Event secret back in 2010. Back then a fellow by the name of Bill Buxton, Microsoft’s then Principal Researcher, spoke about how the Microsoft Surface, which had been in the works since 2007, was going to get a whole lot smaller rather quickly, or as he said it: “I believe you will see [a cost-effective Microsoft Surface in people's living rooms] in three years.” This combined with the leaked “Xbox Surface” document we saw earlier makes a rather enticing case, wouldn’t you say? The actual conversation Buxton had back then with the Globe and Mail was a lot more extensive and covered a whole lot more than just the Surface, but his predictions (or perhaps really great foresight) told us the following things about the future Microsoft Surface: • cost effective prices

How to Manage and Maximize Your New iPad’s Data Plan

Acer Aspire AM3970G-UW10P Desktop PC + 23-inch Monitor Review

Image
What we’re looking at today is the full package when it comes to everyday highly-connected at-home computing and entertainment from Acer . This is the Acer Aspire AM3970G-UW10P Desktop PC with 23-inch LED monitor, mouse, keyboard, and more USB ports than you’ll ever need to use. This machine could potentially be your HDTV media center, it could be your college dorm room do-everything machine, or it could just be the beast that you play Diablo III on in the comfort of your own basement. In all ways, this is an Acer machine that was built not only to compute well, but to be seen: this isn’t your under-desk beast of old, this is a beauty if ever we’ve seen one. While we’ve already had a look at a configuration that was extremely similar to this one, this time we’ve got a bit of a boost with the 23-inch LED monitor included in the box. The tower we had a look at back in February was the Acer model AM3970 while this configuration goes by the name Acer Aspire AM3970G-UW10P Desktop PC +
