Brit politician attacks Disney over lack of disabled characters in films

Disney has come under attack by former British Labour MP Oona King for the lack of disabled characters in their films. Although, Disney drew a warm response when its first black princess appeared in the film 'The Princess and The Frog', King, 42, is not satisfied. "You never see disabled people...When are you going to see a Disney film with a disabled character in the lead role? Tell me that," the Telegraph quoted King as saying. She continued: "I think all of the media has a problem. "If you look at the members of the media's cultural network, all British broadcasters, none of us do well in terms of diversity. The people making film and TV have to really get their act together." "Where we have made progress is having black people and other under-represented groups on the screen, but we still don't have black people making films. I can't think of the British Spike Lee," King added.

The glamour model has reportedly mapped out a lucrative business plan that will earn them 1 million pounds each in the next few months. In a stunningly calculating move, it will begin with her popping the question as part of a magazine deal. Recently, Jordan told her pals that she was planning to dump Reid again when the Channel 4 show finished. However, when his popularity soared and he was named the winner, Jordan decided to get engaged to him instead. "It's been carefully calculated. She's plotted with Alex's advisors over the last week. She wants to make us much money as possible and knows she needs to exploit her relationship with Alex to do that," News of the World quoted an insider as saying. "An engagement story is due in weeks, as that'll make her the most money. It's an awful way to think

Venkatprabhu's 'Goa' has nothing much to offer

Film: 'Goa'; Cast: Vaibhav, Jai, Premji Amaren, Pia, Sneha and others; Direction: Venkatprabhu: Music Director: Yuvan Shankar Raja: Ratings: ** Venkatprabhu has established himself as filmmaker who can make meaningful films without any big stars. His 'Chennai 6000028' featured a host of newcomers and was a runaway hit. It was followed by another hit 'Saroja', a travelogue. Both the films inspired Venkat to make another one with little known stars but this time he isn't as good as he was in his last two movies. 'Goa', Soundarya Rajnikant's first film as a producer, had a lot of pre-release hype for having sun-soaked beaches of Goa filled with bikini-clad women, Yuvan's enthralling music, Premji's 'strong' character, etc. The film opens with a satirical rendition of the Naattamai (Village Panchayath leader) sequence - a rough and tough Jai and his friends Premji and Vaibhav steal jewellery from the nearby temple and esc

Emmy award winning actor Rip Torn, who has had a recurring role in the NBC hit "30 Rock," has been arrested after police found him intoxicated and armed inside a Connecticut bank at the weekend. Torn, 78, was being held on $100,000 bond after state police responded to an alarm at the Litchfield Bank in Salisbury, the Connecticut town where the actor lives, and found him inside the closed bank "with a loaded revolver" and "highly intoxicated," according to a police report issued on Saturday. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief and weapons charges. Torn, who won an Emmy for "The Larry Sanders Show" in 1992, has most recently appeared in several episodes of "30 Rock" as network head Don Geiss. He starred in the hit film "Men in Black" and its sequel, as well as scores of other films and television shows over six decades. He was nominated for an Oscar for "Cross Creek" in 1983,

Cowell could soon be 'Sir' Simon

Simon Cowell could be soon be knighted because top politicians think he should be rewarded for his "generosity and goodwill". The 50-year-old Cowell has not only produced entertaining shows like The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent but has also given and raised millions for charity. His track for the Haiti earthquake victims, Everybody Hurts, is ready to break records and become the biggest- selling single of all time. Cowell who has recently become the patron of Children's Hospices UK, has also promised to leave 90million pounds to good causes in his will. And with ten Facebook sites already devoted to helping him become "Sir Simon", it is said that a formal nomination has been sent to 10 Downing Street. Tory leader David Cameron is reportedly a supporter of Cowell, who has backed Help for Heroes along with many children's charities. Even Prime Minister Gordon Brown is believed to be Cowell's fan. "Gordon is a good friend of Simon'

Mariah Carey drew on her hell with ex-hubby for Precious role

Mariah Carey says she used the experience of her emotionally abusive relationship with ex-hubby Tommy Mottola to play the critically acclaimed role of a social worker in 'Precious'. "It was an abusive relationship emotionally and in several different ways," the News of the World quoted Carey, as saying. She continued: "At first, music was my escape. But as time went on, different friends and different people would help me to see I could get out of that relationship. "That's in the past, but it helped me get to a place where I could grow and use all that stuff. I look forward to acting more to be able to use all of those things." The 39-year-old singer-turned actress was just 23 when she married 43-year-old Mottola in 1993. They divorced in 1998 and Carey is now happily married to actor Nick Cannon. Morocco court closes bold current affairs magazine

A Moroccan magazine known for its fierce criticism of the country's powerful monarchy failed to reach news stands on Saturday after a court sealed its offices for failing to honour its financial commitments. Le Journal Hebdomadaire's holding companies owe over 5 million dirhams ($622,700) in social security contributions, taxes and bank loans, editorial writer Aboubakr Jamai said. "It's true we're unable to keep our financial commitments, but why? We have come under economic attack -- it's a clear case of financial asphyxiation," Jamai told Reuters. He said the authorities had spent years discouraging companies from advertising in Le Journal. A plan for a wealthy Moroccan businessman to buy the magazine then fell through at the last minute, he said. "We are being judged for our criticism of the monarchy," said Jamai. "We point the finger at officials and name them and we follow that up with investigation and we take a position. We were the f

Beauty guru Leslie Kenton was raped at 11 by her dad, says memoir

Beauty guru Leslie Kenton has revealed in her new memoir 'Love Affair' for the first time that she was raped by her own father when she was 11 and that the secret incest lasted until she was 13. It was June, four years ago, when Kenton first contemplated writing about her childhood and 'Love Affair' gives full extent of the horrors and the secret incest at its heart, dailymial.co.uk reports. 'My friend Gail Rebuck, who was my first editor and is now the chairman of Random House, told me, 'You need to write a memoir.' I said, 'Gail, I can't. No one would believe it, and the tabloids would go wild.' And Gail said, 'Who cares? This book will be the bridge between what you have done before and the work you will do afterwards.'' For decades, there have been hints that the woman known as the high priestess of the real beauty movement - she advocated high-raw, high-vegetable diets and detoxifying way back in the 70s, created the Origins rang

Michael Jackson, Leonard Cohen win special Grammys

Michael Jackson won yet another posthumous honour on Saturday, joining six other musicians including Leonard Cohen and Loretta Lynn who received Grammy awards for lifetime achievement. But Jackson's family, whose members rarely turn down an opportunity to share his spotlight, did not attend the ceremony at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, despite speculation that some of his children might accept the statuette on his behalf. Instead, Jackson's former manager, Frank DiLeo, did the honours, describing the pop star as "a funny guy, he had a sense of humour like none of you ever knew." Jackson, who died of a drug overdose last year, aged 50, won 13 Grammys in his lifetime. An unshaved Cohen, sporting a fedora and bolo tie, wryly noted that he never won a Grammy for any of his recordings. "As we make our way towards the finish line that some of us have already crossed, I never thought I'd get a Grammy award. In fact, I was always touched by the modesty of their interes
