HC notice to ‘Endhiran’ makers

The Madras High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the producers and director of ‘Endhiran’ on the complaint of a writer who claimed ‘Endhiran’ story was his. Justice S Rajeswaran, before whom the civil suit filed by Tamil writer and journalist Aarur Tamilnadan, came up for admission, asked Sun Pictures and Shankar to file a reply by November 18. The notice was taken on behalf of Kalanithi Maran, managing director Sun Pictures, who had produced the film. The notice is returnable by November 18. The matter has been posted for that date. In the application, Aarur Tamilnadan alleged the story of the Superstar Rajinikanth starrer film was heavily inspired by ‘Jugiba’, a short story written by him and published in a magazine in 1996. Counsel for Sun Pictures, however, submitted that since the film has already been released and running to packed houses, the prayer in the suit has become fractious. Protest against ‘Uthamaputhiran’

More than 150 members, owing allegiance to a Kongu Vellalar outfit, were arrested in Coimbatore on Tuesday, for staging a protest demonstration in front of cinema halls screening ‘Uthamaputhiran’. Alleging that the Dhanush-starrer film, which hit screens on Diwali day, had portrayed the Goundar community in a bad light, the agitators raised slogans against the movie and wanted the theatres to stop its screening. “The film has been made in such a way that it would bring disrepute to our community. We will not allow it run anywhere. Also, we demand an unconditional apology from those involved in the project,” protestors said. Meanwhile, director of the movie Mithran R Jawahar has denied the charges and said “nowhere in the film had we hurt the sentiments of any particular caste or community. ‘Uthamaputhiran’ is a complete family entertainer.” He added: “The film has a family-oriented theme and speaks about the value of relationships in our day-to-day lives. Kamal’s next is ‘Thalaivan Irukiran’

It was touted to be his film after ‘Dasavatharam’. But Kamal went on with ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ by KS Ravikumar. At the same time he hasn’t forgotten his pet project as well. Now the time has come and Kamal has announced that his pet project ‘Thalaivan Irukiran’ will start rolling early next year. While speaking to a media recently Kamal has said that he is at the moment writing the final version of ‘Thalaivan Irukkiran’. It is going be a big budget project and a Hollywood studio is likely to produce the film along with Kamal’s home banner Rajkamal.
