Sony S1 and S2 Android Tablets Hands-On Photo Collection Expanded [Videos Too!]

Image
We’ve had more than one look at these magical mystical tablets, one of them a bit fat 9.4-inch Android tablet, the other being a dual 5.5-inch fold-out tablet, also Android based. Both of these devices will be rolling out with Android 3.x (more than likely Android 3.1) Honeycomb and will be connecting over either 3G, 4G, or both, again more than likely. The first tablet is what may be considered at the moment to be a more traditional look at a tablet being 4:3, one piece and ready to roll out with Honeycomb, while the other is a folder-type tablet whose screen spreads out across two displays in a form factor not yet often seen in top-tier Android devices. These devices have today been given a whole new selection of hands-on photos, and have previously seen the light of day officially by Sony in a couple of Rube Goldberg videos, both of which show off the tablets in a series of very strange ways. Have a look at both videos here and let us know what you think of their methods of mayhem.

Google+ Hangouts Will Be Open To Third-Party Apps

Image
One of the most popular features of Google+ is the Hangouts group video chat component. It’s a convenient way to easily setup a group meeting whether for a casual chat or for business video conferencing. It also works smoothly even with larger groups and is completely free. Plus, Google plans to open up the app to allow third-party apps to work with the feature. Google Real-time Communications Tech Lead Justin Uberti posted on his blog that they intend on publishing the specs needed to interoperate with Hangouts. This means that third-party developers will be able to create apps such as mobile clients. Hangouts is already a worthy competitor to Skype, and doesn’t require a premium subscription service. Moreover, Hangouts also doesn’t require a dedicated app. It functions directly in-browser with Google already working on ensuring its compatibility across many browsers without the need for downloading plugins. Adding the ability to integrate with third party apps could really push Hango

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide May Arrive July 27

Image
T-Mobile’s myTouch 4G Slide, also known as the HTC Doubleshot, is now rumored for a July 27 release. Back when T-Mobile’s roadmap leaked, it was believed that the device would hit stores by July 6. FCC documentsshowed up on June 1 that further supported an imminent launch. But now a purported screenshot of an updated list of T-Mobile launch dates has surfaced and reveals that the myTouch 4G Slide may have to wait another three weeks. Although no official announcements have been made on the device, leaks over the past few months have revealed that the T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide has some pretty slick features for those desiring a device with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The handset is expected to have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual LED flash. It should come running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense on top. Images have leaked of the device in the wild and those that had a chance to play with it say that the keyboard is “amazing” and the ph

Google To Kill Picasa, Blogger Brands In Push For Google+

Image
Google may soon be killing off its Picasa and Blogger brands and integrating their services into Google+. The company’s new social platform was just recently launched and has so far been very well received. It’s still in an invitation-only trial stage, but plenty of folks have made it in, including rival Facebook’s CEO. Mashable first learned of this Picasa and Blogger rebranding news from an unnamed source. The two services are among Google’s most popular and certainly won’t be going away. Instead, Picasa will be rebranded as Google Photos while Blogger will simply be known as Google Blogs. It’s believed that Picasa is already being used to power the photo stream in Google+. Other services will likely follow in the same path of rebranding, except for YouTube. The source claims that the transition could take place within the next six weeks and that the public debut of Google+ should be on or before July 31. This date will also be when private Google Profiles will be deleted to encourag

iPhone App Loopy 2 Allows DUB FX to Lay Down Track in Single Take

Image
So there’s this guy named DUB FX, he’s a street performer, recording artist, and lover of new technology. He specializes in singing, recording, and rolling out sweet tunes via beatboxing – which, if you’re not hip, means he’s using his voice to create noises normally associated with instruments not of the mouth. If you’ll take a peek at the image below, you’ll see that he can pump up a crowd using an array of machines to make his voice heard straight out of a box. What he’s using nowadays is much simpler: an iPhone. The app you’re about to see in action here is at the moment only available from Apple’s App Store, running on iPhone (or iPad if you like resizing, of course,) and it’s making things much more simple for this street minstrel. The app in question here is [Loopy 2] and is developed by A Tasty Pixel. What the app consists of is “six little balls” as DUB says, each of them beginning to loop as you press them. You record sounds to each of these balls, hit them to turn them on, h

Microsoft’s Bing Lasso Beats Apple’s Copy And Paste Feature

Image
Microsoft released today an update for its Bing for iPad app that introduced the company’s own version of copy and paste. The feature is dubbed “Lasso” and is used to automatically copy and paste a free-hand drawn selection of text for search. It replaces Apple’s built-in copy and paste method when using the Bing for iPad app. Apple’s current method for copying and pasting to search requires multiple steps. First, you have to press down on the text you want to select until a selection tool pops up at which point you must then drag each end to highlight the entire portion you wish to copy. Once copied, you have to paste it into the search box. Microsoft’s solution is surprisingly much less painstaking and lets you freely draw a lasso around the text that you want to select. It then automatically triggers a quick search from what you’ve selected. Bing group program manager Tony Chor says that this new method saves you up to nine steps when compared to using Apple’s method.

HTC Marvel Hits FCC, Heading For T-Mobile

Image
Back in May, a leaked T-Mobile roadmap revealed a wide variety of delicious smartphones waiting to come out of the oven. One of the handsets getting close to making its entry is the HTC Marvel that’s slated for a July 15th launch. The handset has just passed through the FCC, indicating it should be right on time. The HTC Marvel is essentially the T-Mobile version of the HTC Wildfire S for which we did a full review back in April. The FCC documents label the handset as only PG76240 and indicate that the device will sport T-Mobile’s GSM and WCDMA bands. The Marvel should feature a 3.2-inch touchscreen and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera similar to what’s offered on the Wildfire S, but it will have a slightly more powerful 800MHz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor. The handset will most likely come running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense floating on top.

Verizon To Offer iPhone 4 Discount, HTC Thunderbolt For Free?

Image
Verizon has just confirmed tiered data plans to start this Thursday. For power data users, that could mean an unwelcome hike to your monthly bill. Potential customers would certainly be put off by the news, but Verizon may have a strategy for luring them in still. A screenshot has been leaked that suggests the carrier may be getting ready to discount some premium handsets including the iPhone 4. VZbuzz managed to get a screenshot of what appears to be an upcoming ad page showing several premium handsets discounted and even free. The 16GB iPhone 4 is shown with a $50 discount, dropping it down to $150.99 with a two-year contract. That contract will certainly require a tiered data plan that will eat away at the $50 savings pretty quickly. The iPhone 4 sale could also be to make room for the rumored iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 coming in September. Another handset to note is the HTC Thunderbolt, which we happen to like very much in our review. The blazing Android smartphone normally costs $299.9

Image
Recently, a video leaked that was confirmed to be a preview of Skype’s upcoming app designed for the iPad. Disclaimer: Facebook Email Addresses Aren’t “Awesome”

Image
There a message being thrown around today that the “Awesome” announcement made by Facebook this week will be about Facebook-based emails. We’d like to set the record straight in saying that not only are Facebook emails NOT going to be the announcement, they’re also not new at all. They’ve been around for weeks, and lower in this post we’d just love to show you how you can grab one. Facebook emails have been active for a while now, and you can grab yours for free if you just head to your Messages View in Facebook you’ll see a notification (if you’ve not already activated your Facebook email) that’ll allow you to match your new email to your Facebook Profile name. Aka if your Facebook is located at facebook.com/username, you’ll get username@facebook.com for an email! The neat thing about this is that when people send you email to that address, you’ve only got to go to your Messages View in Facebook to see what you’ve been mailed. The only drawback here is that there doesn’t appear to be
