Blu-ray Review - Unknown

Image
There's no easy way to put this, so I'll be straightforward.  Unknown  is unbelievable. I simply can't believe that a cast this good came together with a premise this good, and made a movie this bad. The blame, of course, falls solely on the writers, who took a good premise and then stretched it over the film like a drumhead, waiting to see which parts started to tear first. Nothing snapped, but plausibility is showing some nasty looking stretch marks. And, with film, stretch marks just aren't pleasant to watch. Liam Neeson is in full out  Taken  mode in  Unknown  (on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Download 6/21), in which his character, Dr. Martin Harris, is suddenly replaced by another man who claims to be him but doesn't have the credentials to back it up. Of course, any film that features this sort of a plot is likely to have some major flaws unless the writing is careful. And the writing isn't careful. When Harris can't find himself on the hotel securi

Cars 2 Premiere Red Carpet Raw Footage - The Cast and Creators Talk!

Image
Disney / Pixar's Cars 2 doesn't open nationwide until next weekend but the highly anticipated sequel had its requisite star-studded premiere last night at Hollywood's El Capitan theater on Hollywood Boulevard.  Among Cars 2's cast in attendance were Owen Wilson (Lightening McQueen), Bonnie Hunt (Sally), Cheech Marin (Ramone), Eddie Izzard (Sir Miles Axelrod), Emily Mortimer (Holley Shiftwell), Jennifer Lewis (Flo), Joe Mantegna (Grem), John Ratzenberger (Mack), and director John Lasseter. The film's plot finds Lightening McQueen taking part in an international race.  Somehow Mater, voiced by Larry the Cable Guy, is mistaken for a spy.  Naturally, the Cars gang gets embroiled in some international intrigue before everything is said and done. Below we have raw footage from the premiere red carpet where the cast took time to chat up reporters about the new film.  Enjoy.

Does "The Wolverine" have a new director?

Image
After "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" was largely considered to be a lackluster interpretation of the hero's beginnings, everyone was looking forward to Darren Aronofsky's interesting style breathing new life into the character. But when the Oscar nominee dropped out of directing "The Wolverine" not long ago, fanboys everywhere felt a bit like they had received a swift kick to the gut. (or perhaps a CLAW to the gut is more appropriate?) But, I believe we can all sleep well at night knowing that Fox is currently in talks to hire James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) upon request of Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman. This is something a little new for Mangold, but there is no doubt that we will get a more honed in study of the  character  this time around if he were to be the man to end up with the directing job. Also, and this is just a suggestion... Maybe we can improve the CGI on his claws this time? But all jokes aside, what do  you  think about

New Epic Posters For Final "Harry Potter" Flick

Image
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is right at a month away, so expect the hype to reach an all-time high as we are transported to Hogwarts in theaters for the last time. As has been the case so far, these posters promise lots of destruction to come from the final showdown between Harry and the evil Lord Voldemort. Check out the posters here, and don't forget to comment and share what you think about them! Also, rumor has it that we will be getting the final trailer ever for the Potter franchise tomorrow!

Is "Green Lantern" DOA?

Image
On the eve of its release, the  Green Lantern 's viability as a blockbuster is being questioned by the entertainment media and critics alike.  One article that led the marquee on Yahoo news dared to ask if Green Lantern  was 'Major Risk' based on the relative popularity—or lack—of the DC Comic's title. This general assessment even formed the basis for a piece from mainstream-media jokesters The Onion, whose lampoon of the movies marketing material portrays a desperate Warner Brothers trying to convince potential movie goers they've actually heard of  Green Lantern

Russell Crowe in Talks to Play Superman's Dad

Image
Russell Crowe will, with all likely-hood, play  Superman 's dad in the upcoming  Man of Steel  reboot; that would be biological dad, Jor-El, not Earth dad Jonathan Ken - who will be played by Kevin Costner.  If Jor-El's appearance is in keeping with big-screen  Superman  tradition, the role will be more of an extremely high-profile cameo than anything of immense story-narrative substance - calling on Crowe to espouse Kryptonian humanism as a fortress of solitude hologram to a young Clark on the verge of becoming  Superman . Variety is reporting that Crowe is "In negotiations" to take the part, so the casting is not yet set in stone.  It would be difficult to imagine Crowe turning down such a plum part though.

Cowboys and Aliens to Premiere at Comic-Con

Image
Iron Man  director Jon Favreau has announced his next hotly anticipated film,  Cowboys & Aliens , will make its world premiere at San Diego Comic-Con before going into wide release on July 26th.  The film features the geek-friendly cast of Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, and Sam Rockwell, taking on an Old West / Alien Invasion mash-up that features a Science Fiction and Fantasy production stable like no other: Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and executive producer Steven Spielberg.  Premiering at Comic-Con is probably one of the smartest PR moves ever made since the film is bound to have a bulk of its core audience concentrated there ready, willing, and able to buzz the flick up. Quoted by  Hero Complex , Favreau said “The worldwide premiere of ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ will be at Comic-Con, and not only are we going to premiere it there, we’re going to find a way to include as many of the fans as possible. I feel like they’ve

Fringe Season 4: Michelle Krusiec Gets Recurring Role

Image
Actress Michelle Krusiec has landed a recurring role in the fourth season of FOX's sci-fi drama Fringe . Earlier this month it was reported that  Fringe  was searching for an Asian actress for a recurring role on  Fringe . On Monday, Krusiec  revealed through Twitter  that she had nabbed the role. "Starting a new recurring on Fox's FRINGE," she tweeted. "I leave for Vancouver this week to start filming." Specifics about the role are unknown. Other casting calls from season four had included a one-off appearance by a roguish FBI agent named "Danzig." Could Krusiec's role be that of another FBI agent? Could she fill a role similar to that of Meghan Markle's character Agent Jessup in early season two? We'll keep you posted on any details that might emerge about the character. The Taiwanese Krusiec has previously recurred on shows such as  The Secret Life of the American Teenager  and  Dirty Sexy Money  (which also starred actor

DVD Review - ER: The Complete Fifteenth Season (The Final Season)

Image
It feels like old news, talking about  ER 's series finale. After all, the series wrapped in April 2009, fading to black after panning out to that last shot of County General Hospital. Tuesday (7/12), though, marks the DVD release of the show's fifteenth and final season to DVD. I criticized the show's fourteenth season DVD setbecause by then, the show seemed to be running on fumes. There were some intriguing cases, but the show was showing signs of age. If it hadn't been for the Writers' Guild strike, season fourteen would have been the end of the show, but the season was shortened and they decided to give the show one more year to end. And season fourteen wore the stretch marks. That's not to say that season fifteen doesn't have its own share of yawn-worthy filler. What separates it from its predecessor, though, is its obvious sense of finality. You know when George Clooney shows up on the show for the first time in ten years that the show's pr

New Sherlock Holmes Film Poster Unveils Mad Men and Fringe Star as Villainous Moriarty

Image
Jared Harris played a very memorable villain during the first season of  Fringe  as David Robert Jones, but we now have our first glimpse of Harris as perhaps the most famous villain in literary history. Harris will portray Sherlock Holmes' arch nemesis Professor James Moriarty in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes sequel  Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows  that will be hitting the big screen December 16. There are strong rumors that the trailer for this film will be attached to  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II , the final instalment of the huge wizarding series that is released this Friday, July 15. Another film that is also rumored to preview a teaser before the new  Harry Potter  is  The Dark Knight Rises ; this trailer set is an exciting prospect before one of the year's biggest films. As a prelude to this Warner Bros Pictures have issued two teaser posters via Yahoo! Movies. It is the one that features Jared Harris in the background that is sure to caus

Real Housewives of New Jersey: Peace For Now?

Image
That was a long break for the  Real Housewives of New Jersey , but the drama picked right up from where it left off. Last night's episode gave us a lighter tone with all of the families (sans the Wakiles) trying to get along with each other and help mend the fences between Teresa, her brother Joey, and Melissa.  I'd say the operation was a success, but I'm guessing that complications are likely to ensue later on down the line. Elsewhere, Lauren Manzo had a fit about not being around Albie and Chris anymore, while Kathy and Rich received words of wisdom from Al Manzo. Kathy While Rich was still looking for a nice place for Kathy's restaurant, the new NJ Housewife started to have some reservations about the whole venture. Luckily a trip to The Brownstone and a talk with Al Manzo set these two wannabe entrepreneurs straight. Basically, Al told the Wakiles that starting up a restaurant isn't as glamorous as they (well, mainly Rich) thinks. There are long hours

Big Brother 13: Dick Donato Speaks About His Early Departure From Big Brother

Image
Well, folks, we finally got an answer to why Dick "Evil Dick" Donato left the  Big Brother  house. Sort of. Hot off the heels of another episode of  Big Brother on Sunday night, RTVZone.com caught an exclusive video from the  Big Brother 8  winner about his early, unexpected exit from the  Big Brother  house. However, the site crashed immediately after the video clip was released and remained that way for most of the night. Until now. The video clip is up again at the site and Donato gave his fans the truth concerning his departure and seriously went in on the rumors and those who started the rumors (who he said could kiss his @$$) surrounding the reasons why he left the  Big Brother  house. For one, no one in his family was injured (which makes sense given that Daniele is still in the  Big Brother  house) and rumors of his brother being killed in a car accident is false given that he doesn't have a brother. Epic fail for whoever started that one. However, Evel

Keeping Up With The Kardashians Season 6 Episode 4

Image
On this week's  Keeping Up With The Kardashians "Out of Wedlock", Kris and Kourtney lock horns over Kourtney's refusal to get married. Kris is now an ordained minister and is determined to marry Kourtney and Scott, literally.  While shopping for furniture for Kourtney’s house, Kris suggests something for the guest room. Kourtney casually mentions not wanting to decorate it in case she needs it for a nursery. Kris assumes Kourtney is planning another baby and immediately launches into a ‘you should get married’ spiel. Kourtney denies planning for another baby and cuts her off. Scott visits is therapist and does admit that Kourtney wants another baby. The thought scares him, because as it is he feel some jealousy when Kourtney is with Mason. Not only does he feel like an outsider, he sleeps in a separate bed while Mason sleeps with Kourtney. Pastor Brad, who married Khloe and Lamar, visits with Kris to prepare for his own wedding. Having become an ordained ministe

Big Brother 13: Night of the Living Alliances - Week One Nominations

Image
Game was seriously thrown around tonight on  Big Brother  as alliances were formed, lines were drawn, and the first two eviction nominees were announced. Also, tonight's Luxury Competition had to have been the most sexually suggestive competition in  Big Brother  history. More on that pseudo-orgy later. Battle Lines Were Drawn, Meet "The Regulators" Right after Julie Chen announced the Golden Key twist, the houseguests went right into strategizing and forming alliances. It was a given that there would be a Newbies vs. Veterans split in the house, but four of the Newbies decided to take their alliance even further by forming The Regulators, which consist of Cassi, Dominic, Lawon, and Keith. Their alliance makes sense (even though I hate 4+ alliances) given the circumstances of the game at the present time. With all that said, the Regulators' strategy seems to only help them get to the top 10, and doesn't have a chance in hell at surviving against the Vetera

True Blood Promo: Episode 4.04 "I'm Alive and On Fire"

Image
The most recent episode of  True Blood  showed us a softer side of Eric, which was rather amusing.  He admitted to Sookie that he doesn't remember who he is, although he knows he's a vampire. Sookie agreed to help him if he promised not to feed on her.  Pam got wind of what happened and insisted that Sookie hide Eric from Bill and the witches.  She went to Alcide for help hiding Eric and found out that Debbie (now a recovering V addict) was living with him in Shreveport.  Sookie wasn't happy to see her considering Debbie tried to kill her, but Alcide did offer his assistance.  At the end of the episode, Sookie's faerie godmother returned to bring Sookie back to the faerie realm, but Eric attacked, drank from her, and killed her before she could force Sookie to leave. Jessica told Bill that she fed on another man and Bill said she had to confess her recent actions to Hoyt.  She returned home to tell him the truth (and also discovered that the weird doll they keep t
