Syfy March Saturday Original Movies Include Dinoshark and Dark Relic

SYFY MARCH SATURDAY ORIGINAL MOVIES FEATURE DINOSHARK, FROM CULT MOVIE LEGEND ROGER CORMAN, AND DARK RELIC, STARRING JAMES FRAIN (THE TUDORS) New York, NY — February 26, 2010 — Legendary cult movie producer Roger Corman unleashes a nightmarish half dinosaur-half shark onto a resort area and James Frain (The Tudors) portrays a knight battling a murderous demon in Syfy’s March Saturday Original Movies. In Dinoshark, airing Saturday, March 13, at 9PM (ET/PT), a lush Mexico vacation spot is terrorized by a mysterious prehistoric creature no one believes exists, except a young fishing boat captain (Eric Balfour, 24, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). To prevent a bloodbath, the captain must stop “Dinoshark” before it invades an inland waterway full of pleasure boats and swimmers. Dinoshark is produced by Roger Corman and Julie Corman. Roger Corman, who received an Honorary 2010 Oscar, is the legendary director and producer of numerous low-budget cult classics, among them It Conquered the World,

Tendulkar is the Titan of Cricketing mythology

Image
In Greek mythology a Titan is someone who is a giant. Giant not by size but by deeds who would their rule their domain with absolute power. The two titans Atlas and Hercules are legends of the mythical world. Hercules for beating the odds all alone with just his strength and wit along with Atlas who literally carries the world on his shoulders. Truly if the game of cricket was mythology then Sachin Tendulkar is a Titan. Sachin Tendulkar’s shoulder carry no less of a burden and he has often single handedly taken on odds we cannot imagine or identify with. But today in his 442nd One Dayer, with his 17,598th run and a good 100 runs after he had scored his 46th century, the little master that Tendulkar is, scored the first double century ever scored in international limited overs cricket. He now owns the world record for most runs scored ever, most centuries ever and also the highest individual score ever. In both formats of the game Tendulkar his at the top and by miles. Why Harbhajan Singh loves Eden Gardens?

Image
I think we saw a great Test match today between India and South Africa. Both teams were playing for the number one spot and rain on the fourth day had made it possible for South Africa to play for a draw, win the series and get the No 1 Ranking for Test cricket. But Indian team had other plans and Harbhajan Singh took 5 wickets to win India the match. India now hold on to their No 1 ranking. I though it would be nice to look up what Harbhajan Singh does in Eden Gardens Kolkatta. Obviously he seems to relish bowling there as it is also the place where he took a hat trick against Australia way back in 2001. I thought about looking up some distinct statistics to see actually how much does Harbhajan actually love Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It is incredible to be honest. He has taken 355 wickets in his career in 83 Tests that is a average of 4.27 wickets. Now compare it to 07 Tests and 46 wickets at Eden Garden in Kolkata. He has taken a astounding 6.5 wickets per Test in Kolkata. On a light

Pune and Ahmedabad possible front runners for new IPL teams!

Image
Indian Premier League fever is catching up. Last time I did write about the new advertisement for IPL season 3. Here is a new and interesting twist. This year there will be eight teams as usual but next year there will be ten teams in the fray. That means two new teams. Here is a list of cities which might host the new teams. Ahembdabad, Nagpur, Kanpur, Dharamshala, Indore, Cuttack, Gwalior, Vishakapatnam, Rajkot, Pune, Baroda and Cochin. I think the front runners are probably Ahmedabad and Pune. Let me tell you why? The base price of the new teams to be bid on will be 225 million dollars. That is almost twice the amount spent on the latest highest bid which was for Mumbai Indians. I single out these two cities as likely to be bid on as these are on the only cities which can help the owners recover their millions. Pune being close to Mumbai and has a huge population for sustaining a franchise. Also Ahmedabad is a bustling city at the cusp of being a mega city will be ideal place to se

New IPL advertisement lays out the red carpet [Video]

IPL when it was held in 2008 was a massive success and shook the cricketing world. In all probably it has also shifted the power base of Cricket to India very significantly. In 2009 when IPL was was shifted out of India and in South Africa. IPL is back in India this year and Sony has put out a advertisement titled “Saare Jahan se Accha”. It obviously is in reference that there is no place like India have the IPL taking place. Do watch the video below and let me know your thoughts on the advertisement.

England field first as Kieswetter debuts

Craig Kieswetter makes his debut after an irresistible run of form for the England Lions and plays as a specialist batsman at the top of the order with Matt Prior keeping wicket. Alastair Cook's first ODI in charge started tidily, winning the toss and choosing to field first on sweltering afternoon in Dhaka. Cook returns to the one-day side for the first time since November 2008, and along with Kieswetter gives England yet another opening combination. At the toss he insisted his game has expanded since then, and in Asian conditions, where the first 15-overs are crucial for the batting side, he will need to prove that. On a pitch that is expected to be slow, dry and low it could be tough for the middle-order batsmen against the spinners and Bangladesh, banking on their superior knowledge of home conditions have plenty in their side. Bangladesh included Mashrafe Mortaza, their most experienced paceman, who returns from injury for his first ODI since January las

Rahul Vishwakarma reprimanded for misconduct

Rahul Vishwakarma , the Nepal left-arm spinner who grabbed a match-winning 7 for 15 against USA to help his team win the ICC World Cricket League Division 5 trophy, has been reprimanded for misconduct. The reprimand was issued by ICC match referee David Jukes, who did not convene a disciplinary hearing as Vishwakarma pleaded guilty to the charge. Through his admission, Vishwakarma was found to have breached Section 12 Article 2.1.6 of the ICC Code, which relates to "pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion by a bowler or other member of the fielding side upon the dismissal of a batsman". "Mr. Vishwakarma has apologised for his actions, and has given me an assurance that we will not see a recurrence," Jukes said. The charge was brought by the two on-field umpires Tyron Wijewardene and Sarika Prasad at the conclusion of the match which Nepal won by five wickets.

Paine ton pushes Tasmania to 304

Image
Tasmania have one hand on their second FR Cup title in three seasons after Tim Paine's century drove them to 6 for 304 at the MCG. A lacklustre Victorian effort in the field left the hosts needing everything to go right in their chase if they are to avoid losing the one-day final for the fourth consecutive summer. Paine and Michael Dighton set up the big total with a 132-run opening stand that made Victoria pay for dropping Dighton twice. The wicketkeeper Matthew Wade should have had Dighton on 9 when he put down a one-handed opportunity off Darren Pattinson and the batsman had another life on 42 when he cut to point and Aiden Blizzard spilled a straightforward chance low to the ground. Dighton was in a belligerent batting mood and forced boundaries all around the ground, including one straight down the ground that nearly struck the bowler John Hastings in the head. Dighton was the dominant man in the opening partnership and the scoring rate slowed when he was bow

Southee and McCullum seal super NZ win

Image
A superb match needed a Super Over to split the teams and New Zealand prevailed to repay Brendon McCullum for his amazing century. McCullum became the second-highest scorer in a Twenty20 international with an unbeaten 116, but after Michael Clarke and Cameron White exploded in the reply the scores were tied at 214 after 40 overs. A six-ball tiebreaker was required and the calm Tim Southee delivered another tight over to allow only six runs for White, David Warner and Brad Haddin. Shaun Tait's waywardness, including two wides, assisted the locals and Martin Guptill finished the game with a four over point from the third legitimate delivery. The hosts were upset by a meek performance in Friday's one-sided defeat , but McCullum showed his might with an unforgettable 56-ball demolition on a small ground that was rocking at the start and the end. Things were much quieter as Clarke organised the chase with 67 from 45 and White provided some much-needed muscle with

Kannada comedian Shankar dead, few pay last respects

Kannada comedian B.K. Shankar died after a brief illness Saturday but sadly hardly any from the state's film industry paid their last respects to the actor who has worked in over 200 movies, industry sources said Sunday . Shankar, 56, was suffering from severe jaundice and was declared dead by attending doctors in his residence. His final rites were performed in his hometown Gadag, 400 km from here, Saturday evening. He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters. Shankar became popular with his trademark dialogue delivery in the Uttara Karnataka accent. He started off with Kannada professional theatre where he was typecast to play comic roles. His first break in the film world came with 'Sanchari' though it was 'Aththege Thakka Soase' that was released first. Shankar's performance in many films directed by Phani Ramachandra like 'Ganeshana Maduve', 'Ganeshana Galaate' and 'Gowri Ganesha' were app

Beauty who ended Peter Andre's post-Jordan celibacy vow reveals all

Peter Andre had sex with a woman, linked to Orlando Bloom in the past, just eight days after his divorce with Katie Price, it has emerged. The singer romped a former Pixie Lott stylist, Maddy Ford, after meeting her in a birthday party of his friend/champion windsurfer Nick Baker and wife Michelle Clack's child on October 31 last year. Ford has revealed the details of their fling that lasted three months. "Michelle told me Peter was looking for someone who was 'the complete opposite" of his ex-wife Katie - and yet he seemed more than interested in me with my fake boobs and false eyelashes!" the News of the World quoted her as saying. She added: "He had already seen my picture on Facebook, thought I was 'gorgeous' and wanted to meet me. I thought he would be a useful work contact. "I was quickly introduced to him. But about an hour later I was at the bar when I sensed someone behind me. "It was P

MJ's death re-enacted on US TV

A controversial reconstruction of Michael Jackson's death has been shown on US television. The 30-minute macabre re-enactment was broadcast in the US on cable channel VH1, reports News of the World. It shows an actor playing Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray trying to revive the singer with chest compression heart massage - first on a bed and then on the floor. The reconstruction shows Murray using a mask to force oxygen into the star's lungs. Later, the Jackson lookalike is seen on a slab in a Los Angeles mortuary. He is also shown on a post mortem table before being put into a mortuary drawer.

Brittany Murphy 'had 109 Vicodin in 11 days', says coroner

A coroner's reports into Brittany Murphy's death have revealed that the actress filled a prescription for painkiller Vicodin just 11 days before she died late last year but 109 pills were missing when she was found collapsed in her Los Angeles home. Officially, pneumonia and drug intoxication have been ruled as the cause of the 'Clueless' star's death; the report says the 32-year-old Murphy was issued 120 pills of Vicodin on December 9 and only 11 were found in the bottle when she suddenly died on December 20. According to gossip web site TMZ, the LA coroner's office has not been able to trace the doctor who issued the prescription, reports the New York Post. It is not known why Murphy was taking the painkiller. Vicodin should not be taken more than 4 times daily, and the max Murphy should have taken at the time would be 44 instead of 109.

Mariah Carey is insecure about her looks

Popstar Mariah Carey says she has been insecure about her looks since the age of 19. The 40-year-old singer confessed she has been conscious of this for about 21 years now. 'I remember starting out and being at a record company at 19 and having someone tell me, 'This is your good side and this is your bad side. Don't ever let anyone take pictures of you from that side. You look terrible from that side,' and so on. It created this whole complex,' she said. Carey, whose mother is Irish-American and her father was an African-American of Venezuelan descent, said she has always had the complex because she's mixed-race, reports femalefirst.co.uk. 'I felt very different as a bi-racial person. Growing up where I did, being half-black and half-white was a weird and difficult thing because I didn't quite fit in either place and I moved around a lot,' she said. 'So when I went from that to this world it was like, let's cr

Courtney Love paid cash to hookers to find drugs

Courtney Love relied on prostitutes to help her find drugs when she was staying in unfamiliar places. The Hole frontwoman, who was sentenced to six months in rehab in 2005 after breaking the terms of her probation and then leaving a 28-day treatment programme without permission, used to be so dependent on drugs she would call on sex workers to pay her a visit to help her find a dealer, reports The Daily Express. However, she insists she's now clean and sober. She says, "I had this rock and roll trick that I would do. I'd be in the worst (place)... like Cleveland (Ohio) or Cologne, Germany... Munich... I wanted drugs because I used to do drugs and I don't do them any more. "I would call up a hooker agency and I would ask for the ugliest hooker, because the ugliest hooker would know (where to get drugs). "They would think I was a lesbian and come with all sorts of things (sex toys) and I'd be like, 'No,

David Cameron tells of 'patriotic duty' to oust Labour

Image
David Cameron is expected to declare that it is his "patriotic duty" to oust Gordon Brown when he speaks at the Conservative's spring conference. The Tory leader is due to say the party has a duty to win because Britain is in a "complete and utter mess". He is set to deliver his 40-minute speech without notes as he rallies the party for the general election amid signs their poll lead is narrowing. The Conservatives have announced their election slogan is "Vote for Change". The election must be held by June, but it is widely expected to take place on 6 May. 'Broken society' Recent polls have suggested the Conservative lead over Labour may be narrowing, and Mr Cameron is under pressure to appeal to voters. In his keynote speech to the conference in Brighton, he is expected to say: "It is an election we have a patriotic duty to win because this country is in a complete and utter mess, and we have to sort it out." In an arti

Obama says US prepared to assist Chile if asked

The U.S. "will be there" if Chile asks for rescue and recovery help after a powerful earthquake struck the South American nation, President Barack Obama said Saturday. He also warned people in Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the West Coast to heed the instructions of local authorities about evacuations and other measures in advance of a tsunami moving across the Pacific Ocean. "We can't control nature, but we can and must be prepared for disaster when it strikes," he said in a statement at the White House. Obama spoke as the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning — its highest alert — for Hawaii. That alert was later canceled after the tsunami effects on Hawaii proved to be less serious than anticipated. The Navy was moving more than a half dozen vessels Saturday to try to avoid damage from the tsunami, at the time of the more serious warning. Before he spoke, Obama had a 20-minute conference call with staff

Australian players told IPL threat 'not credible'

Image
Australia's players could be a step closer to taking part in the IPL after receiving advice that the terrorist threat from the 313 Brigade was not credible. However, Tim May, the chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations, has said there could still be "mass withdrawals" unless players receive a commitment that the IPL's security plans will be implemented at all venues. The Australian IPL players currently on tour in New Zealand were given a briefing by a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade official at the team hotel in Christchurch on Saturday. The Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) has now been told by the security adviser Reg Dickason that the 313 Brigade threat is not credible but that does not mean the issues are resolved. "Reg is comfortable that the threat is not credible but we still haven't received a commitment that the security plans will be implemented as laid out," Marsh t

Marsh ruled out of New Zealand ODI tour

Image
Shaun Marsh has failed to recover from a back injury in time to take part in the Chappell-Hadlee Series starting in New Zealand on Wednesday. Marsh suffered the injury before an ODI in Sydney on February 12, but the treatment hasn't worked and he will stay home. Australia had hoped Marsh, who was originally in the Twenty20 unit, would be back in time for the five-match ODI series. His injury means the squad currently has only 13 players, although there is the option of keeping someone in New Zealand from the Twenty20 side. David Warner has been in brutal touch against New Zealand and West Indies, including 67 from 29 in Sydney last week, and is a leading contender to add to his seven ODIs. Brad Haddin and Adam Voges also opened during the home campaign, giving Australia some flexibility ahead of Wednesday's opening game in Napier. Australia's ODI squad Shane Watson, Brad Haddin (wk), Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Cameron White, A

New Zealand knock over Australia again

Image
New Zealand took their winning streak over Australia to five with a 17-run success in the second Twenty20 in Christchurch. The visitors had a chance to end their drought when they held the hosts to 115 for 9, but they were unable to break free in their reply and were dismissed on the final ball for 98. Australia were a worrying 35 for 3, with Alex Blackwell and Lisa Sthalekar already gone, before Shelley Nitschke and Jess Cameron (16) combined. After Cameron was unfortunate to be lbw trying to sweep Kate Broadmore, Nitschke lifted the pace with a couple of strong boundaries to fine leg and straight down the ground, but they still needed 39 off four overs. The asking rate was too high and Ellyse Perry (6) holed out at long off, giving Sara McGlashan the first of two good catches. Her running take at long-on took care of Nitschke for 45 off 51, ending Australia's charge, but McGlashan wasn't finished and her long throw helped run out Rene Farrell. Suzie Bates go

Top 10 Least Anticipated Movies for 2010

Image
The year has barely begun and there are plenty of movies in the can awaiting their big screen release. Looking at the list, I can only admit to being stoked about two: Iron Man 2 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 . Yee haw! Most of the films on the list fall into my ambiguity zone – I couldn’t care less one way or another. Yet some fall into the “there’s absolutely no way I’d waste $10.50 plus the cost of snacks on this one” category. Here they are, in order of their release. You may or may not agree with my assessments, so have at it in the comments section: Valentine’s Day (in theaters now): Another vanity project that crams in as many big names that would say “Yes.” Directed by Garry Marshall, the “all star cast” includes (in alphabetical order) Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biehl, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, Hector Elizondo, Jamie Foxx, Jessica Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner,

'It was upsetting when people said this was a publicity stunt. I wanted to slap them'

PRIYANKO SARKAR: What made you switch from feel-good romances to films with social and political messages? I don't know. It was just my state of mind and my wanting to give out that message. I just hope My Name Is Khan reaches out to a wider audience and people connect with it and the message comes through. Every film has to make you walk out with some feeling or the other. Y.P. RAJESH: It's interesting you say that because you are known for candy-floss romances. I am all for bubblegum and candy floss. In fact, I am dying to watch Valentine's Day. But now I have moved on. I am 37 and I'll be 40 in three years. For me to do bubblegum and mush now is a bit too much. Aditya Chopra and I are the only two filmmakers who have been through the transition. In the '90s, we were catering to the demands of the audience at that time and suddenly we were competing with the Farhan Akhtars and Ashutosh Gowarikers in 2001. PRIYANKA SINHA: People say that you make

TRAILER: ‘Furry Vengeance’ aka ‘Avatar II: The Low Budget’

It's Atif Aslam all the way in 'Prince' music

Film: 'Prince'; Music Director: Sachin Gupta; Lyricist: Sameer; Singers: Atif Aslam, Shreya Ghoshal, Garima Jhingon, Alisha Chinoy, Hard Kaur , Monali and Sachin Gupta; Rating: ** Atif Aslam dominates the soundtrack of Vivek Oberoi -starrer 'Prince'. Composer Sachin Gupta sure seems impressed with the popular singer as almost all the songs have been crooned by Aslam. The film offers seven originals and nine remixes. The soundtrack opens with 'O mere khuda' with Atif Aslam and Garima Jhingon behind the microphone. The energetic song starts with a bang and has a powerful impact. This refreshingly upbeat song with a strong orchestration is the best in the album. The song has a dance mix attached to it, which is quite similar to the original. Up next is Shreya Ghoshal and Atif Aslam's 'Tere liye', a fast-paced romantic number. The song offers nothing new but is enjoyable in parts. However, it's an Atif song all alo

"A Prophet" triumphs at French film awards

Image
Jacques Audiard's powerful prison drama "Un Prophete" (A Prophet) swept the board at the "Cesar" awards on Saturday, picking up the best film, best actor and best director prizes at France's annual version of the Oscars. "A Prophet", one of the outstanding films at last year's Cannes film festival, was named as best foreign film at the BAFTA awards last week and is in the running in the same category at the Academy Awards on March 7. A dark tale of a young, illiterate petty criminal who gardually climbs up a brutal prison hierarchy, "A Prophet" took nine awards on the night, leaving little for the rest of the field. Audiard, whose previous films include "De battre mon coeur s'est arrete" (The Beat My Heart Skipped), picked up the best director award, while the film's star Tahar Rahim, took both the award for best actor and best newcomer. Niels Arestrup also won the prize for best support

I work in cycles,' Abhay told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai. 'I have done that before. I have spent time in Spain, England and I've travelled within India too in between projects because it's just part and parcel of the way I live. I like travelling and being on the road. And once I finish my next film, it will happen again,' he said. After pursuing a course in welding and metal work at the Arts Students League of New York last year, the 33-year-old is now training in martial arts. Asked if the training was for his home production 'Basra'

For the final leg of shooting the first film in India to shoot in Seven Wonders of the World ‘Cheluveye Ninne Nodalu’ team is leaving for Dubai instead of China for the 40 seconds portion shoot for two days. It features the Seven Wonders of the World. As the permission to shoot at the Great Wall of China was a problem the unit of ‘CNN’ headed by producer NM Suresh is leaving on March 9 to Dubai. ABC Nixes An Episode of the forgotten For A FlashForward Clip Show

Image
ABC hasn’t given up entirely on FlashForward yet, but they’ve clearly given up on the forgotten . Futon Critic reports that a FlashForward clip episode will replace the original episode of the forgotten that was scheduled for March 16 at 10pm, pushing it off the schedule entirely (possibly to the summer, or just to DVD). FlashForward has to recover from its fall ratings decline, which saw its final original episode garner just a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating, or its going to be canceled . ABC knows that too, and is throwing the deadweight that is the forgotten overboard to put as much behind FlashForward as possible. Stay tuned.
