Manisha Karmakar Out – Indian Idol 5 Third Elimination

Image
First it was Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and now it is Indian Idol, it was hard luck for the upcoming singer who had made impact with her great voice quality. She is a singer with real voice and always got great feedbacks from the judges in the initial stages. However, something went utterly wrong and her mistakes were more than evident to the audiences thanks to the meticulous observation and interpretation by the judges. Judges do influence the swing of votes in Reality shows and this time it seems everything went against Manisha. However, it was quite amazing to find the same judges rueing that Manisha was eliminated because of audience polls. Anyway she is a really fine singer and one may not get surprised if she makes a big comeback in the world of playback singing.

Anu Malik Criticises and Praises Swaroop Khan

Image
Anu Malik had created a real type situation in a reality show by expressing his opinion about the performance of Swaroop Khan in the last episode of Indian Idol 5. In fact, Swaroop’s father who watched the Indian Idol show was also critical of Malik’s comment and expressed his displeasure. But it seems that it was nothing but an emotional drama to generate interest in the show. Anyway, the standard of singing by Swaroop in the last episone was much lower than the standard he has created for himself and genuine warning from a senior musician worked like inspiration for him. In the coming episode on 8th of June 2010 all the singers would sing songs of regional overtone and according to the promos Swaroop wins the heart of his mentor Anu Malik with his mesmerizing Rajasthani song.

Pakistan Likely Winner of Asia Cup 2010

Asia Cup Cricket is going to start on 15th of June 2010. Right now considering the fact that old stalwarts like Shoaib Malik and Shoaib Akhatar are back in the team everything appears to go in favour of Pakistan. The other two top contenders- India and Srilanka are suffering with multiple issues and in recent times their performance in the international events was no match for Pakistan. In case of team India they have got two successive unsuccessful tours behind them first the debacle of T-20 and second the fiasco of youth experiment under captainship of Suresh Raina. Srilankan team has got concerns regarding the form of its senior players. In case of Pakistan they had decent run in the T-20 world cup which can be a real morale booster for them and can help them in having positive mind set for Asia Cup 2010. Indian team will have to come out with exceptional performance if they want to put up a formidable challenge and their usual self would not help their campign in Asia Cup.

Italy vs Paraguay Preview

Image
Reigning champions Italy begin the defence of their 2010 FIFA World Cup™ crown against Paraguay. The Azzurri took the title four years ago in Germany and will not relinquish their grip on the trophy without a struggle. The first of the hurdles for them to negotiate comes in the form of Paraguay, who will present a tricky opening test. Italy's preparations have done little to inspire confidence, with an ageing squad looking worryingly off the pace at times. Their back four, which is marshalled by 36-year-old skipper Fabio Cannavaro, can struggle to handle pace, which could prove to be their undoing. Paraguay will certainly be looking to give them an early examination, with the South Americans heading into the tournament in buoyant mood. Victories over Brazil and Argentina in qualifying underlined their quality and they should not be underestimated this summer. Pre-tournament results have gone well on the whole, while they are able to boast an attacking arsenal which will be the en

'India will be ready in another 10 yrs'

Image
Qualifying for the FIFA World Cup finals may be a distant dream for India but AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco is optimistic that the country will make its mark in the international football in another 10 years. "I think, in another 10 years we will be able to make our presence felt in world football," Colaco said. Colaco was present at a felicitation function of the 16 budding footballers, who will get once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend a six-day training camp in South Africa. Besides the International 2010 Football Camp, which is commencing from June 15 in Tuks Village in Pretoria, the team members will also get the taste of the soccer fever there while watching a FIFA World Cup match between the hosts and Uruguay on June 16.

Netherlands vs Denmark Player Ratings

Image
Abhay Puri takes a look at the performances in the game between Holland and Denmark. NETHERLANDS Maarten Stekelenburg - 7 The Dutch keeper did not have much to do all night, but looked confident claiming crosses and made a couple of good saves in the first half. Gregory van der Wiel - 7.5 The young Ajax winger made some impressive darting runs down the right and was defensively solid as well, ably dealing with Enevoldsen and Gronkjaer on the flank. John Heitinga - 7 Looked confident and kept Bendtner quiet for much of the game, and was ably supported by his partner at center-back, Mathijsen. Joris Mathijsen - 7 His experience showed as he covered the back well alongside Heitinga, though the pair were rarely threatened by the Dutch forward line. Giovanni van Bronckhorst - 6.5 The Dutch captain, making his 100th appearance in Orange, was beaten a few times by the wily Rommedahl, but it did not prove too costly. Dirk Kuyt - 7.5 Took his chance well to secure the game for Holland and was e

Group E: Netherlands 2-0 Denmark

Image
Netherlands beat Denmark 2-0 in their 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Group E opener at Soccer City on Monday. A comical own goal set Holland on their way to victory in the opening game in World Cup Group E as the tournament's dark horses beat Denmark 2-0 at Soccer City on Monday. Denmark had matched their European rivals for the first half of a game that had struggled to ignite the imagination in Johannesburg. But less than a minute into the second period and the Danes orchestrated their own demise as Simon Poulsen's attempted clearance hit the back of team-mate Daniel Agger to gift the Dutch the lead. Poulsen responded to the mistake with a wistful grin and there was little else for Denmark to smile about as Morten Olsen's side failed to create a meaningful chance after falling behind. Holland slowly tightened their grip on the game and the pionts were made safe in the closing five minutes when Dirk Kuyt reacted the quickest to tap home after substitute Eljero Elia's shot had s

2010 FIFA World Cup™ Team of the weekend

Image
Newsroom intern, Claudia Wong puts her name on the line as she names her World Cup Team of the Weekend. The first weekend of the World Cup saw 16 countries from the first four groups kick off their World Cup campaign. As expected, Argentina's little magician Lionel Messi is on the list and of course, my Anfield favourite, Steven Gerrard! Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Country: USA, Match: USA 1-1 England) The Hull City striker shone for his side, making good runs and attempts at every possible chance, even beating Jamie Carragher on one occasion to nearly net in a goal. Expect to see more of him in the coming years. Lionel Messi (Country Argentina, Match: Argentina 1-0 Nigeria) This man never stopped trying. He was a marked man from the start, and he was the sole target of fouls, fouls and more fouls against him. Credit to the great player he is, Messi kept his cool and kept on pushing, but lady luck was not on his side. Midfield: Park Ji Sung (Country: South Korea, Match: South Korea 2-

Japan vs Cameroon Preview

Image
Japan and Cameroon get their 2010 FIFA World Cup™ campaigns under way at Bloemfontein on Monday. Paul Le Guen's side will hope to recapture the roar that saw Cameroon thrill the world in 1990 as they reached the last eight before losing to England. They have not fared so well in major tournaments since but Le Guen will be hoping his side can kick-off their Group E bid with a maximum-points haul against a Japan side who enter the finals low on form and confidence. The Samurai Blue are unbeaten in three meetings with Cameroon, winning twice, but they have never won a World Cup™ game outside of their home nation, losing five of their six games on foreign soil. And Takeshi Okada's side have failed to impress in the build-up to Monday's game, losing to Serbia, South Korea, England and Ivory Coast in four straight warm-up friendlies and then battling to an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe in a training match in George on Thursday. Le Guen could name a surprise first XI for the

Netherlands vs Denmark Preview

Image
Holland and Denmark kick off their 2010 FIFA World Cup ™ campaigns when they face off at Soccer City on Monday. Perennial under-achievers Holland have been tipped by many to go all the way in South Africa, and the 1974 and 1978 runners-up are on a remarkably good run of form. Bert van Marwijk's side are unbeaten in their last 19 games - a run which stretches back to September 2008. Denmark, meanwhile, have lost warm-up matches to Australia and South Africa and come into the tournament on the back of some poor performances. They did finish above Portugal in their qualifying group, though, and could prove a stern test to the Dutch in Johannesburg. Holland's squad is littered with star names but they will probably have to do without winger Arjen Robben who is suffering from a hamstring injury. The Bayern Munich ace suffered the problem while trying a back-heel in a warm-up match and although he has trained, is unlikely to play. Rafael van der Vaart is set to deputise in his absen

Carragher: Gerrard can play anywhere

Image
JAMIE Carragher believes England captain Steven Gerrard can play the holding midfield role "as well as anyone in the world." Gerrard scored England's opening goal in the tournament during yesterday's 1-1 draw with the United States, slotting home a perfectly weighted pass from Emile Heskey. But the 30-year-old also showed his worth in making several vital tackles and interceptions when dropping back. Carragher, who replaced the injured Ledley King at half-time, said: "It's a great achievement to captain your country at the World Cup and I thought Stevie was outstanding. "That was not just because of the goal but because he was snapping into tackles as well. "Sometimes people say Stevie and Frank Lampard can't play in that role - but Stevie can play the holding role as well as anyone in the world. "He can play right back, off the front man, central midfield, attack. "At times that's a problem for us because he can play so well in s

Bentley uncertain over future

Image
David Bentley admits he remains uncertain as to whether he will still be at Tottenham next season. The 25-year-old winger has struggled to make the desired impact at White Hart Lane since making a big-money move from Blackburn in 2008. First-team opportunities have been sporadic, with Bentley unable to hold down a regular role. That proved to be the case again last season, with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp awarding him just 12 Premier League outings. A lack of action has led to speculation regarding his future, with some suggesting he would be wise to move on. Bentley, though, insists he remains committed to the Tottenham cause and will be doing his utmost during pre-season to force his way into the fold. "Hopefully I will get fit and as strong as possible and look to have another good season," he told Sky Sports News. "Whether I get out on the pitch, you never know. You can be as fit as possible but not play any football, so we will see what happens." On the possibil

England Drama - King is out

Image
England's hopes of lifting the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ trophy were dealt another heavy blow with news that Ledley King is out for three weeks. The Sun reported that the Tottenham Hotspur captain, who damaged an abductor muscle in his groin in England's 1-1 draw against the USA on Saturday night is likely to face three weeks on the sidelines. That could effectively rule him out of the rest of the tournament with Fabio Capello now down to three fit central defenders in John Terry, Matthew Upson and Michael Dawson. The Italian tactician took a huge gamble in naming King in his 23-man squad, and that decision seems to have backfired. Speaking to the media, Capello said: "We have three other central defenders, Carragher, Michael Dawson and Matthew Upson. I hope we have no more injuries. "The problem is not the injuries. The problem is only the result of the game." It was revealed that Terry informed the bench about King's injury, just moments after Steven Gerrard sco

Shearer: Rooney needs to fire up

Image
England legend, Alan Shearer is adamant that the real Wayne Rooney did not show up against the USA. The Manchester United striker looked frustrated throughout the Group C match which ended in a 1-1 draw. With Emile Heskey partnering him upfront, Rooney tried his best to get into the game but looked off the pace and at times, angry with himself. In his column for The Sun, Shearer revealed: "Rooney needs to play with fire in his belly. "It doesn't matter whether he is playing in the school playground or the World Cup finals, he needs that inner drive and hunger that sets him apart from the rest. "I am willing to bet that Wayne will make a big, positive impact on these finals and we should all be thankful that we have a genuinely world-class player in our ranks." Shearer was also quick to point out that in order for Rooney to make an impact, Fabio Capello will need to choose the right tactics to fully maximize his star striker's role on the pitch. He added: &qu

Shearer: Green should be dropped

Image
Alan Shearer insists there can be no excuses for Robert Green and has tipped David James to take the West Ham keeper's place. Green's first-half blunder, when he allowed USA midfielder Clint Dempsey's innocuous long-range effort to slip through his grasp, cancelled out the early lead handed to England by Steven Gerrard's opener. Fabio Capello's men were unable to force their way back into the lead and were indebted to Green following the break when he made an excellent stop from Jozy Altidore after the striker had left Jamie Carragher for dead. Green, James and Joe Hart are all battling for selection in South Africa, with Capello electing to keep the trio - along with the rest of the squad - in the dark as to who will be handed a starting spot until shortly before kick-off. But, Shearer is in do doubt who should be between the posts for England's second match. "When you are at your first World Cup, like Green is, and you don't have many caps - he had n
