Google Earth now available for Nexus One

Image
Google Earth is finally available for the Nexus One smartphone - a good sign considering it was one of the applications shown during the Nexus One rollout. You can hop on to the Android Market at get Google Earth for your "superphone", but be warned that this is only meant for Android-powered devices that run on version 2.1 only, since it doesn't show up in the Market on handsets with earlier Android versions. Just like Google Maps, there are a bunch of layers to sift through including Places, Businesses, Panoramio, Wikipedia, Roads, Borders and Labels, and Terrain. Anyone given this a go yet?

Twitter hits 50 million tweets per day

Image
Here's some trivia - contrary to folks who claim that Twitter has leveled off in terms of users and tweets, some interesting number crunching has resulted in Twitter users sending out over 50 million tweets each day - basically translated to 600 tweets going through Twitter's network each second. At what figure do you think the figures would taper off?

[PMA 2010] We published earlier today about the Samsung HMX-20X and the HMX-U15, coming up with another device to compete with the hugely popular Flip camera, the first low cost camcorder to feature an integrated USB port with easy upload to Youtube. The HMX-U20 is equipped with a 3x optical zoom as well as the ability to capture still images in 10-megapixel glory, while the HMX-U15 lacks the optical zoom, albeit captures better stills thanks to its 14-megapixel still camera sensor. Vatsal and Yuvika all praise for Tabu

Vatsal Seth and Yuvika Chaudhry may not be very famous names in Bollywood but they have starred in a few big projects. Yuvika made her debut with a brief appearance in Shah Rukh Khan 's home banner venture, the super duper hit, OM SHANTI OM, while Vatsal's debut, Abbas Mustan's TARZAN-THE WONDER CAR was a forgettable experience and the multistarrer, HEROES an average grosser. The two star in TOH BAAT PAKKI! which released on Friday. The film also stars Sharman Joshi and two times national award winner, Tabu . Vatsal and Yuvika are all praise for Tabu who they say is certainly the lead star of the film and plays the pivotal role in TOH BAAT PAKKI! Vatsal says that he had worked with a lot of senior and well established stars like Ajay Devgan , Salman Khan , Sunny Deol etc. but working with Tabu was entirely a different experience. She was very accommodating, humble and simple and a sweet human being. Yuvika too sang praises for Tabu saying that she treat

I am on right track: Producer Ritesh Sidhwani

In a short span, 39-year-old producer Ritesh Sidhwani has not only churned out successful films like 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Rock On!' but also won several honours, including two National Awards. He is well aware that it usually takes an entire life to come this far in Bollywood. 'It is extremely heartwarming and makes me feel high looking back at what I have received from this industry. It takes an entire life for an individual to be honoured with what I have been noticed and appreciated for. It gives me a boost that I am going on the right track,' Sidhwani told IANS in an interview over phone from Mumbai. Recognition brings bigger responsibilities, he says. 'One needs to be responsible every time one makes a movie. But now I feel the expectations have grown more. We need to be conscious all the time because a lot of people invest in our ventures.' Sidhwani ventured into the movie business with the 2001 blockbuster 'Dil Cha

To do a romantic comedy is also something that stands high up in my list, but then I am just waiting for a great script to come my way.' Taking a trip down memory lane, he said it was superhit 'Hum Tum' that bailed him out during trying times. 'I would think that 'Hum Tum' was a definite milestone film in my

Bioserie iPhone Case is really green

Image
And we don't mean the color - in fact, the Bioserie iPhone Case is made out of Bioplastic, which actually relies on plants 100% to become what it is. Talk about a truly green iPhone case - on the bright side, you not only have just one color to choose from, but have blue, black and other colors to keep your iPhone looking pristine while feeling good about your purchase that has been translated into karma points.

People I trusted in Bollywood misguided me: Sneha Ullal

Sneha Ullal was known as the Aishwarya Rai -lookalike when she entered the film world but the actress is now keen to carve a niche for herself. After featuring in spooky thriller 'Click', she feels it's time she proved her calibre to people who misguided her when she first came to Bollywood. 'See 'Click' is not my comeback in Bollywood because the film doesn't revolve around me. I need a film like 'Lucky' (her debut vehicle) to make a comeback; then I can show what I can do,' Sneha told IANS. 'Now it's time I prove myself because there are a lot of people who misguided me in Bollywood - whom I trusted. I never knew Bollywood is like that, you know,' she said. The young actress has already signed two Hindi movies, including one opposite Akshay Kumar . 'I am doing a film with Ashok Tyagi where Akshay Kapoor is my co-star and there is another film with Shubir Mukherjee. The film is being launched by Joy

Stars, royalty arrive for British film's big night

Image
Hollywood royalty turned out in force on Sunday for the BAFTAs, Britain's top film accolades, a ceremony that will be watched for what light it sheds on the outcome of Oscars in two weeks' time. Quentin Tarantino, up for best director for World War Two caper "Inglourious Basterds", walked the red carpet where hundreds of fans waited for autographs, and was followed by "Precious" actress and rising star Gabourey Sidibe. "I'm really excited because this isn't even my country," she said of her best actress nomination. Sidibe is up against Carey Mulligan, Saoirse Ronan, Meryl Streep and Audrey Tautou in the category. "Twilight" co-stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson arrived separately, and both stopped to sign autographs before the ceremony at London's Royal Opera House.. Designer-turned-director Tom Ford arrived to see if Colin Firth, lead actor in his debut feature "A Single Man", could make it a British acting

40-year-old Virgin star brightens pre-Oscar gala

Image
Elizabeth Banks, who captured movie-goers' attention with scene-stealing turns in "The 40-year-old Virgin," may seem an unlikely choice to hand out Hollywood's premiere awards for the science of movie-making. The 35-year-old Massachusetts native, gamely poking fun at her unfamiliarity with "digital intermediaries" and "ambient occlusion," presided ably with the aid of a teleprompter over this year's Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Saturday. "I don't know what a sine curve is. At all," said Banks after an award recipient thanked his father for teaching him how to chart his first such graph. The lesser-known companion to the Academy Awards, which one attendee called "the poor man's Oscars," honors the army of technology wizards that toil behind the scenes of the movie industry. Most years, a young starlet hands out the awards in a low

"The Hurt Locker" sweeps "Avatar" aside at BAFTAs

Image
Iraq war drama "The Hurt Locker" swept 3-D blockbuster "Avatar" aside at the BAFTA British film awards on Sunday, picking up best film and best director among its six prizes and laying down a marker for the Oscars. The movies, directed by Kathryn Bigelow and ex-husband James Cameron respectively, were both nominated for eight awards at the BAFTAs, and also lead the field heading into next month's Academy Awards with nine nominations apiece. Bigelow became the first woman to win the best director BAFTA, and said she hoped she would not be the last. "Women's struggle for equity is a constant struggle, so if this can be a beacon of light, then wonderful," she told reporters backstage after receiving her BAFTA in the gilded splendour of London's Royal Opera House. Cameron was in the audience, and Avatar, the biggest box office hit in history, won just two awards -- production design and special visual effects. Bigelow

Lufthansa pilots launch four-day strike

Pilots went on strike Monday at Lufthansa, knocking out 3,200 flights according to the company's skeleton timetable. The four-day work stoppage will be the biggest stoppage labour disruption in the German airline's history. In preparation, Lufthansa was trying to reschedule passengers onto jets flown by non-union staff and offering refunds to passengers who must cancel trips. There was a rush in recent days to book with other airlines or rebook travel within Europe by rail instead. More than 4,000 of Lufthansa's 4,500 pilots are members of the Cockpit Association, which in May demanded pay hikes of 6.4 percent, a no-layoffs promise and commitments from the airline not to outsource operations to lower-pay subsidiaries. With a deadlock after months of talks, Cockpit Association members voted last week to authorise an all-out stoppage. Experienced Lufthansa flight captains earn between 110,000 and 250,000 euros ($150,000 and 340,000) per yea

James Cameron On Why He Might Lose the Oscar to Katherine Bigelow: She’s a Girl

Movie Trailers - Movies Blog —– James Cameron on why he might lose the Oscar for Best Director to Katherine Bigelow: “I would say that it’s an irresistible opportunity for the Academy to anoint a female director for the first time. I would say that that’s, you know, a very strong probability and I will be cheering when that happens.” Cameron’s been running around practically begging the Academy to split the difference and award Bigelow with the director Oscar and “Avatar” with best picture. At first he sounded gracious but now I’m not so sure. You get the impression that he wants to position himself as the man who bestowed the award on Bigelow, or at least volunteered to get out of her way, as opposed to losing to her fair and square — and the above interview with MTV appears to back that up. “[A]n irresistible opportunity to anoint a female director.” What? Anoint? There’s no way to interpret that other than Cameron saying that her win will represent some form of t

REVIEW: Great Rental – ‘Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths’

if you like comics and super-hero movies you can’t go wrong with DC’s latest animated film, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. It’s a terrific translation of classic comics stories to film with a contemporary flavor. Set during the early days of the League when they’re constructing their space station (pre- Justice League Unlimited ). For the sake of this discussion, they live on Earth One. Meanwhile, on a parallel earth (known as Earth Three in the comics) there is another Justice League that’s the opposite of the one on JLA’s World. In this world, the villains are the heroes and visa-versa. Superman is a criminal thug named Ultraman. He runs a mob called the Crime Syndicate which is made up of evil versions of the Justice League. But the Justice League of that world is run by Lex Luthor and is composed of good versions of the villains in Earth One. The good Lex Luthor has just stolen something from the Crime Syndicate. He escapes to Earth One using a device that a

INTERVIEW: ‘Shooting Michael Moore’ Promoter Larry Post

Image
Larry Post doesn’t mince words regarding Michael Moore’s body of work. Post recalls seeing Moore’s first documentary, “Roger & Me,” which blamed corporate misconduct for the decline of the auto industry his hometown of Flint, Mich. “I consider myself pretty knowledge about the subject matter, and the movie was totally distorted,” Post says of a film which failed to critique the “unions and the workers who had squeezed these companies” into oblivion. “Every movie since ['Roger & Me'] has been a piece of crap,“ Post says. So when he read a story in the Wall Street Journal last October about a neophyte filmmaker’s documentary slamming Moore it caught his attention. Post, an investment adviser by trade, is renting a Los Angeles theater next week to generate fresh buzz around the film. “ Shooting Michael Moore ” will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Westwood Crest Theatre in L.A. Post hopes “the trades” will take an interest in the screening or “maybe

HOWARD ZINN’S LEGACY: Celebrities Must Be Held Accountable For the Unlawful Acts They Champion

Image
Howard Zinn wants teachers to bring in whatever materials they want to your child’s class room. He wants them to use their own judgement to teach whatever they think is appropriate. He wants them to subvert the rules regarding the approved curriculum at the school you are paying for . Of course, if Zinn’s advice is followed, there is nothing keeping a teacher from bringing materials related to Holocaust denial, or 9/11 conspiracies or creationism into the class room, as well. Unless Zinn is recommending only HIS enlightened view of history should be secretly brought into the classroom. There are some very important people in our country who have aligned themselves with Zinn. With his philosophy. With his view of history. With his view of the United States. And, with his strategy for getting his message into the public schools outside of the legal construct of School Boards and State Departments of Education. They made a film of his book . They walked the red carpet an

Tío Chano vs. Professor Profligacy

On the morning of Febrary 13th, 2010, the most profligate President in the recent history of the Republic attacked the last decade as being “a decade of profligacy.” In fact, the current POTUS’ two budgets were by far the most profligate of the last ten years. This is a textbook case of what psychologists call “projection.” Tío Chano could not let this vile calumny stand!

Sleeping With The Colonel: Stand-Up Comedy In Iraq

Image
OK, we were just bunking, actually. In a trailer surrounded by cement t-walls in Baghdad. As gigs went, this one was a little OUT there. I’ve recently returned from eight days entertaining the troops in Kuwait and Iraq with four other comics (Carole Montgomery, Felicia Michaels, Leighann Lord and Mark Riccadonna-all are hilarious, btw). We were joined on the trip by Col. Ed Shock, who heads up Armed Forces Entertainment . He’s a clean living, dedicated military professional who I hope we didn’t corrupt too much. At the very least, the good colonel is probably rethinking his “no alcohol” policy now. We used public transportation for every show. This experience was rewarding in ways I am only now beginning to process. It’s easy to question one’s decision to opt for stand-up as a career, especially when hanging out with friends who have things like retirement plans, houses and food for dinner. After this trip I wouldn’t trade the job for anything. Even if I win the lottery I

SRK cancels deal with Lux Cozy

Image
After the farce revolving around his film My Name Is Khan , it was the actor's endorsements that caught the lime light. Not too long ago, Shah Rukh was signed on as the brand ambassador for well known innerwear brand Lux Cozy. What's more his IPL team - the KKR, were also supposed to promote the brand on field as their uniforms would carry their logo. However, a controversy took birth over this tie up as the brand is owned by Kolkata's Todi brothers, who are accused in the infamous case of hounding Kolkata youth Rizwanur Rehman to suicide. The latest updates now state that SRK has, cancelled his endorsement contract with Lux Cozy. The reasons behind this sudden cancellation are apparently, the bothers involvement as well as the criticism by Muslim groups and civil societies in Kolkata. Besides, Rizwanur's mother had also requested Khan not to endorse a product owned by the Todis. The deal hence, won't be going ahead anymore.

Neil Nitin Mukesh to play Priyanka's husband in Saat Khoon Maaf

Image
While Naseeruddin Shah at 60, would be Priyanka Chopra's oldest husband in Saat Khoon Maaf (earlier entitled Ek Batta Saath ), Neil Nitin Mukesh has just been signed to play her youngest husband. Though age-wise, Neil is a few months older than Priyanka, Neil, it is reliably learnt, initially felt he would look incompatible with her. Says a source, "Neil didn't want another situation like Aa Dekhen Zara where everyone commented on how incompatible Bipasha and he looked. At the same time, he's a big fan of Priyanka's work. So when he heard that his colleague Ranbir Kapoor was working with Priyanka and prepared himself to match Priyanka's maturity level (Ranbir has stubbled, lean red-eyed look in Anjaana Anjaani ), Neil was game for it." Neil's character will require a heavy physical transformation. He will apparently be unrecognizable on screen. Says Neil from the location for Yashraj Films' Lafange Parinday , "When I heard the sc

Shah Rukh bonds with Leonardo Di Caprio, Martin Scorsese at Berlin

Shah Rukh Khan doesn't sleep. Or so it seems. He landed in Mumbai on Thursday from Dubai after a show, but shows no sign of strain or jetlag. Just before Dubai the mega-star was in Berlin for the film festival negotiating the attention of hundreds of screaming fans. What we don't know is that Shah Rukh met and bonded in Berlin with American auteur director Martin Scorsese and his favourite actor Leonardo Di Caprio. Says Shah Rukh, "Leonardo, Martin and I spent some time together. Martin was gracious enough to remember that he had met me in Cannes way back in 2002 when I was there for Devdas . He wants to watch Devdas and I've promised to send it to him. I'll do so right way." After the glorious performance in My Name Is Khan as a physically-disabled underdog journeying across America on a whimsical mission, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to play the super-hero flying across the sky to save humanity. True to its mythological title, Ra.1 which starts

Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein Music Review

Image
EXPECTATIONS Now when did this film get made? Really, with IPL round the corner, it's the same situation as one saw last year when number of films arrived in theatres out of nowhere. Google search reveals that the film also stars Rajesh Khanna in a pivotal role which adds some credibility to the film. However, with not many expectations, one goes on to play Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein which has music by Daboo Malik and lyrics by Panchhi Jalonvi. MUSIC There is predictability written all over the number ' Jaane Kyun Pyaar Mein ' the moment Daboo Malik is heard behind the mike. Arrangements are strictly 90s as well and eventually the song turns out to be one of those Nadeem Shravan tracks in the era gone which can't really be expected to become popular in the current musical scenario. Shweta Pandit does manage to come up with a spirited rendition and one can sense that she is singing with her heart in. However, done to death lyrics by Panchhi Jalonvi and an ou
